  • Excellent… for the price! READ this before buying Excellent… for the price! READ this before buying
This chicken run is ideal for someone who is raising chickens in a large backyard and is looking to deter hawks and eagles from your flock. If you live somewhere rural (with foxes, coyote, wolves, raccoons, possum) you may need to get a more secure chicken run. Pros: - Easy enough to assemble. I’m not very good at assembling things but it took 3 people about 4 hours to assemble. - Low cost. For the money this is a great option! - Tarp. Comes with a tarp to cover the area where the chicken coop is placed. Can shield chickens from rain. - Large size. I only have 4 chickens but I think this thing is big enough for 10-15! - Door. It has a door which is nice! I’m 5’8” and it’s nice to walk in the chicken run with enough room above me. This coop is tall enough that you can walk in and clean but it’s not too tall. I was worried it would be too tall and be an eyesore for my neighbors. Luckily, It barely is visible over the fence. - Comes with zip ties and some wire. - Green colored hex mesh. I like this color it has! Cons: - Flimsy material. The hex chicken wire mesh material that it is made out of is not the sturdiest. I was hoping it would be more like chain link fence feeling material. If you have destructive dogs I would be careful with this chicken run. A dog could easily jump on it and break the zip ties holding it together. -Held together by zip ties and faith. The assembly feels like it may fall apart in a couple years. It’s being held together entirely by zip ties and wire. - Light weight. You might think this is a good thing but if a big storm comes through it would be concerning. I went to the store and bought some large screws to secure the chicken run to some railroad ties. I highly recommend securing it in someway so that it doesn’t blow away! - Aesthetics. It doesn’t come with any decor. Chicken runs just aren’t the most pretty thing. I purchased the round roof option because I want it to be somewhat aesthetically pleasing. To make it look cuter I purchased some fake moss tiles and made it look like a shrub growing around it. - Challenges cutting and wrapping the run. You will have to cut the hex mesh stuff at some point during the assembly. Luckily there is a little extra mesh if you mess up. Not a lot of room for error. - Low security chicken run. Make sure you lock your chickens up at night in their coop!!! Predators could easily weasel their way under the hex mesh. In my opinion the chicken run is good for during the day. I believe it will stop hawks from getting them. But at night I still lock them up in their coop to protect them from other predators. Summary: This chicken run is excellent for the price. In this economy everything is so expensive!! Glad this didn’t break the bank. To buy all the parts at hardware store will cost you more money!! In my opinion it is worth it if you are just doing chicken stuff in a large backyard as a hobby. However….If you live somewhere more rural that has serious predator problems, I would highly suggest buying something more secure and more sturdy!! ... show more

  • Revised comment due to excellent customer service, but read for design change info Revised comment due to excellent customer service, but read for design change info
EDIT: The seller and I have been in communication and they had to redesign to make shipping and manufacturing more efficient, which is understandable. I have upgraded my first rating to a 5-star based upon the excellent communication with the seller. Revised comment: I purchased this exact item (same company, same product, I hit the "order again" button on Amazon) a year or two ago. There are several major changes between the two models that are worth discussing. 1. Hinge design change. Hinges on the original model were fine. However, on the new ones when you tighten them on one side there is no strain release to prevent the side with the pin from also tightening, which then prevents the door from freely rotating. I hammered in an old nail to act as a strain release during tightening and that worked like a charm. (photo included) 2. Poles. I don't feel they are as tight fit on the new model, but the seller said they didn't change the poles themselves, so maybe I'm remembering the old installation incorrectly (it has been a year or two since I assembled the last one). I will say the poles do have significant wobble and it's not a bad idea to use a level to make them square and shove something in the joint space to tighten them up prior to installing chicken wire. I was hoping the chicken wire would tighten and square things up for me but it didn't, so learn from me and do it ahead of time. 3. Door assembly changed. In my photograph, the old model is on the left, the new model is on the right. The new model comes with an extra horizontal beam you're supposed to put above the door. I fought with it for a while until I realized it wasn't even on the old model. You can temporarily install it to hold the door frame in place, but when you go to install the door take it off if it's giving you problems, it's not necessary. Also, the new door uses clamps on all four corners. Last door had curved corners which was better (sturdier, easier to assemble, not crooked). When assembled my door was cockeye. I had to stand on the bottom and gently bend the top until everything was square. An addition that is not a critique of the product: the chicken wire will hold birds in but will not protect them from predators. You will have to install heavier fencing at least along the walls and sink the bottom of the fence about six inches into the soil. This helps keeps predators out but also the chickens in, as they like to scratch along the bottom of the coop and they will excavate holes over time. All in all it's a good chicken run for the money and my birds like it. Just be aware that if you have the older model and you're looking for symmetry that the door is different now. ... show more

  • Buyers regret Buyers regret
I really wanted to love this chicken run. However now that its assembled and in place I have to say I wish I'd bought a different one. I'll break it down though on why that's my take away. Pro's; I do love the style of door as opposed to other runs I've purchased. If I was rating exclusively on the door alone, I would give it 5/5. I also liked that the chicken wire included was the taller version because it meant the pieces could be bigger with fewer cuts. Makes for a much easier install and cleaner end product. I will also say that the manufacturer did get back to me pretty quickly with my issues so that was nice as well. Neutral; it's the size I wanted, and has the same metal poles that are standard with this kind of product. I didn't use the tarp cover. I get high winds and it just wouldn't hold up to that so I bought an alternative one that'll be stronger and give full roof coverage. Con's; Right off the bat I had to spend 30 minutes going through and labeling each piece because only 2 of them had sticker labels. Not a great start but I know it happens sometimes with those little stickers. Then I specifically bought this because it came with a Roost to attach to the run. I was really frustrated because there are no holes to attach the clamps to the Roost bars. After several back and fourth with the manufacturer they sent me a photo showing that the screw doesn't go through the pole, but the pole just sets against the screw. I'll attach their picture too since I still haven't assembled mine due to missing hardware. The manufacturer did say they have mailed that to me but I'm still waiting on it. (**Update; I did receive the missing hardware the day after this review and was finally able to assemble it**) Last con for me and what ultimately was the last thing making me regret my purchase is that I noticed today that it doesn't have a support rod in the middle on the back like my other run does. I really think that has given original chicken run a lot of support so now I'm worried that this new run isn't going to last as long, especially in my high winds area. Honestly if it wasn't for the manufacturer sending me the missing hardware and liking the door so much, I would likely be giving this either a 1 or 2 star. That being said, I will not be purchasing this again. ... show more

  • So far so good
Pretty good quality, goes together pretty easily. We actually added wooden slats to the top and a metal roof to ours with an automatic chicken door. Help up through a Tn winter and is still going strong. i would recommend actual chicken wire instead of the cheap green wire it comes with.

Pattern Name: Spire Roof-Perch Size: 158.4"L x 118.0"W x 78.0"H
Very good product very ezy to put up would recommend putting a thicker gauge wire on the bottom because the wire it comes with is not strong enough.

  • Great product for the price Great product for the price
I had low expectations when I ordered this because it was so inexpensive, but I am pleased with the finished product. It was a little tedious to wrap with the fencing/wire and took A LOT of zip-ties; but, all in all, was easy to assemble. We used some of the ties provided to set the stage the wire, but went back over it with heavier duty ties (the ones it comes with are not very strong/thick). We purchased the lighter weight wire, which would be great for a more residential area with smaller predators. The frame feels more like hollow aluminum than steel and is not sturdy enough to keep a large dog, or large cat at bay, nor likely sturdy enough for strong winds if you have the tarp on it, but time will tell. We recommend using stronger ties for better durability. My take away: plan/measure out where it is going to go so you don't have to move it after its assembled/wrapped, plan to spend at least half your day setting this up, have stronger zip ties on hand, and lay out the fencing with a few light weight ties before using too many to tighten it down (the material moves and stretches as you go). All in all, I am please with the finished product. It was within our budget and it will work for what we needed. ... show more
