I set it up pretty easily. I got the one with the USB-C wire by accident. I bought a USB-C to USB-A adapter to resolve it. I believe it was my inattentiveness that caused me to buy the wrong one. Not in the way it was presented in the advertisement. I bought this one because of the reputation it has historically, and I have seen multiple YouTubers that present content on sea going boats use this exact product to backup their files. Used it for backups and storage for photo and movie editing. Suddenly stopped communicating when all I was doing was file retrieval. Purchased in Nov 2022, Amazon closed the return window in January 2023 and now have only had the external hard drive (used on Apple Mac laptop) for only 9 months!

I use this to back up all of my personal information that I used to have on my computer. Now a days it’s so easy for any computer or iCloud to be hacked. With taxes and supporting documents, bills, and banks statements, I just don’t want to chance it anymore. So I purchased 2 of these. One for more of an updated and the 2nd I put it in my safe. It’s always great to have a backup Just in case. The ruggedized case has given us peace of mind although I don’t think it will protect from a drop, we don’t want to have a repeat of the other drive we purchased that took a 3 foot tumble and broke. We got the 5tb was because I wanted to save all of the pictures and videos of my baby. Now he is a toddler. I don’t want to miss or delete anything. Everything is precious to me. I really wanted this storage device as it got the best reviews, but unfortunately it did not open in Windows no matter what troubleshooting I did so I can't use it. I am not proficient enough to do some of the things recommended and did not want to cause any damage to the device or to my computer. It worked on my Samsung cell phone as soon as I plugged it in, so the device works but even though I used the Type C connection on my pc, nothing happened. I did not discover this until I unboxed it, and had to buy separately a USB-A to micro-B cord so that I could plug it to my desktop computer. I love that this drive is lightweight yet rugged when it comes to drops and spills etc, because that will happen a lot here. I also LOVE the ease of use and really nothing to learn about to use it. Basically, plug and play with a small download. HOWEVER, I did not like that there was no cable included for USB-C to USB-A. For the kind of money I spent, I would like to see the company include at least an adapter for this type of connection. I almost sent a great drive back due to this exclusion (and in fact, had the return ready to go), then I decided to contact a well-known retailer that deals with computers and accessories. They guided me to a cable that works, but had the adapter been included, I wouldn't have had to jump through the hoops and delay the project by another two days until someone could go pick up the cable. So if you are in this same situation, order an adapter or USB-C to USB-A cable when ordering this drive. You will be glad you did. All-in-all, I'm very happy that, in the end, I chose to find another way to keep this drive and am very happy with the performance of it overall. ... show more
