So initially I was a little torn about purchasing this lock solely because some of the negative reviews. However after watching a YouTube video with a professional locksmith review this lock and two other smart locks and him saying that you couldn’t go wrong with any of them I bit the bullet. I picked the Kwikset because of its ability for you to rekey their locks by yourself. I have always had Kwikset since I built my house and loved that the few locks I have replaced over the years I can just rekey and no worries about making new keys for everyone that has keys. So the Kwikset Halo is very easy to install. In fairness I already had a deadbolt I was replacing so I did not have to measure and drill new holes for lock to be installed. Here is what I think may be causing some negative reviews, Not following the instructions step by step and/or correctly. They are very detailed and even explain that if you don’t do this step in this order correctly that lock may not work properly. Installation took me about 25 minutes taking my time and double checking every step. Set up of Smart lock feature/ connecting to WiFi, completing firmware update and setting up app/account was about half that time. Once lock was completely installed here is my list of pros and possible cons I found. Pros 1. Ease if installation 2. Smart feature is via blue tooth through your WiFi so no need for special hub. 3. Quality and looks are very nice and keypad is touch screen not buttons 4.Several ways to unlock- key, touch pad code, by using app and even using Alexa ( once set up in Alexa app). Great to have all these options if you need to allow people in your house for a temporary reason. 5. App allows you to monitor who is coming into house and also if door is locked or unlocked. 6. Reasonable cost when compared to other smart locks containing the same features. Possible Cons 1. Lock noise when locking and unlocking. A litte louder because of electronic movements. 2. LED status light flashes every 5 seconds, (however just found out that this feature can also be turned off I believe) 3. Battery cover on inside part of lock is screwed down during installation and requires face plate to be removed to reach battery compartment. ( However once again discovered that if you don’t screw in this cover, you can just slide the cover in place after installation. It holds extremely well. Which allows you to just slide up cover to get to batteries when needed. 4. If you are someone that doesn’t like to follow instructions this may lead to problems for you. 5. If you have poor WiFi reception near where lock is going to be installed this may effect lock operation. Overall I am super pleased with this lock so far. I have not had it long enough to comment on battery life or durability when it comes to how long lock will last. I know other Kwikset locks come with a lifetime warranty. However this has a one year warranty. Probably because of the electronics integrated in this lock. ... show more

This lock came within one day of ordering - great service! It was moderately easy to install. The directions are clear and the lock components are packed in little boxes and numbered in order of installation. Everything went well. The only installation pain was inserting the tiny bottom screw on the inside lock cover. It took some patience and a very small screwdriver. It synched with both Bluetooth and my Wi-Fi easily. The Kwikset app (on Android) worked well and locked and unlocked the unit successfully the first time. I really like that there is no external subscription or special hub required to use the lock's feature set. I re-keyed the lock to match other Kwikset door locks in the house. The re-keying is straightforward and worked well with no problem. I really like this aspect of Kwikset keyed locks. The ability to set up temporary codes and time sensitive codes is a great convenience. I have set up a time and day of week bounded code for the cleaning service to be sure that they can get in promptly even if we are unable to come to the door immediately or if we need to be out when they arrive. ... show more

Kwikset should be ashamed of themselves putting out a product as bad as this one. I had the original August lock with the hub. The lock worked great for 3 years. Then it started burning through batteries and being unresponsive. So I decided to try another, MORE EXPENSIVE, brand. Kwikset Halo touchscreen. After 2 hours of wrestling with the settings on this item, I am just returning it. I read the bad reviews and figured these were people who just did not know what they were doing. I was installing the lock so I had my daughter set up the App on her phone. That went OK, paired her phone, and all was good. I logged into the App with my phone and nothing. It would not let me change codes. I couldnt see the people in my user list. I couldnt see the people with codes. All I could do was lock and unlock. So we restarted. Paired with my phone after completely resetting the lock. Log into the App and all of the users popped up. All of the poeple popped up. Good news right? No. My wife tried to pair her phone and she finally got it to work by literally holding her phone against the lock. So we tried to pair my daughters phone. Will not work. Tried over 10 times. Asked google, held the a button for 10 seconds. Started over. It will not pair our three phones. I need all of us to be able to manage this lock. Now lets turn to the sound of a moped roaring through your house every time it locks and unlocks. It is the loudest smart lock I have ever heard. Now lets move to the touchscreen. In order to make the touch screen work you have to completely cover it with the back or palm of your hand. Then it makes you push two buttons that light up. Then you can enter your code. Careful. If you have fat finger you can WAY easily touch the wrong numbers. Also, be fast as the touchscreen goes dim after about 5 seconds. I am using a smart lock to help my elderly father, who takes a bus from the house to the doctors at least 4 times a week. His hands are numb and useless. On the smartphone he can just push the big circle unlock on the screen, or it will auto unlock for him. But there is a trick to it. You have to pair the phone. I would not recommend this garbage. I am going to go and buy the new August which is cheaper, works better, actually lets phones use the App correctly, and does not piss me off. ... show more
