  • Great lock, less than great google nest
Color: Oil Rubbed Bronze
Install was quick and easy, it wasn't a perfect match for my door but with some tweaking I made it work. Main issue now is the weather strips on my door are a tad thick so the smart lock has a tendency to stop on the last 1/8th of an inch when locking and so it will say the door didn't lock, even though it did, it's only a sliver short of being fully engaged. That's not the locks fault though. The reason for 3 stars is the Nest Connect that came with it is (hopefully) a faulty model. It worked initially, but about 15 minutes after the full install the connect went offline and was unreachable. I removed it form the nest account and factory reset it, all seemed fine until I want to re-add it to the account, the phone (pixel 4 xl) could no longer detect it. I tried creating a new account, no dice. Tried my wifes iPhone, no dice, tried an iPad, no dice. Tried my kindle fire, no dice. Insert 3 hours of trying everything in a bag of tricks as a network admin with no luck. Ultimately got in touch with Google support and after a brief explanation of the issue and what I had done already to try to fix it they didn't make me go back through any troubleshooting, simply said they'd send me a slip to send mine back and they would send a replacement. If I get a new connect that is fully functional, the review will go up to 5 stars, the lock itself works great and I have zero complaints about that part of the package. Edit: just realized now a year later I neglected to update this. Google sent me a new functional nest extender and all worked after that, so the review.has been changed to give stars. ... show more

  • Who Needs Keys!
Color: Oil Rubbed Bronze
We just recently moved into a new home and one of the initiatives that I've been working to do is to reduce the number of keys that I need to bring with me when I’m out of the house! As it stands now with the installation of the Nest x Yale Lock, all I need is the Key Fob for my car, which is amazing! The Nest x Yale Lock is an amazing smart lock and we've gladly added it to our collection of smart home devices! It operates quite well as advertised; we are able to lock it and unlock it using the touch panel and/or using our smartphone devices via the nest app. We also love the feature that we can use Google home to check if the door is locked and even ask it to lock the door for us while home. Installation was for the most part a breeze; however, your mileage may vary depending on the condition/setup of your prior door lock/deadbolt. Fortunately for me, my door cutouts were pretty much a direct match with the Nest x Yale lock set out of the box. Where I did hit a snag was struggling to fully extend the deadbolt to fit properly. At first, it only extended partially, I had to really jiggle and tug to fully extend the deadbolt to get it to fit precisely. As others may have noted, the Nest X Yale lock is very sensitive with regard to the strike plate. I did have to re-adjust the strike plate to ensure that the deadbolt didn't miss as it operates. If you have a loose-fitting door when closed, be sure that you firmly shut your door before having Nest X Yale operate or it may end up missing the strike plate. We've just gotten into the habit of firmly closing the door to ensure smooth operation of the dead bolt. Additionally, bonus feature that we like is the ability to setup guest pins for use which allows us to keep track of who's accessed our home. We also enjoy being able to keep track/see who's operated our door as it's all tracked on the Nest app. Overall, we are quite pleased with how well the Nest X Yale works! It looks beautiful and is adds a refreshing look to our front door but most importantly makes our lives easier. We never have to worry about forgetting our house keys again and that's worth every penny! ... show more

  • Lock is nice. Nest connect/app functionality is garbage
Color: Satin Nickel
installation of lock was easy and works well. I have been working with nest tech support for two weeks now for a total of 12 hours trying to connect the nest/app to the Yale lock. first time for two hours. Nest said the issue was with the lock and sent me to Yale Lock support. Yale eventually sent me the interior portion to install. Installed it and still did not connect. second time was for 2 1/2 hours. Nest then said it was the Nest Connect. If I went in to detail about what I went through trying to get it delivered, I would run out of characters on this post. still have not received it. So I bought another nest connect from Home depot to speed the installation process up. Tech support called me yesterday at 6pm and I stayed on the phone until 11pm until I told them enough was enough and the definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. they just kept having me do the same steps over and over for 5 hours. This time does not account for the 2 hours getting disconnected from the Chat support and disconnected from the phone while trying to get a replacement shipped to the right address. Main problem that appears while trying to set up is the error code...."SOMETHING WENT WRONG. THE APP IS HAVING TROUBLE CONNECTING TO THE ASSISTING NEST PRODUCT. BLAH BLAH BLAH.......T013 (4096) this has now become a rant, so I am thru......... bottom line, nest connect seem to be junk and Yale lock seems to be a good product. If Nest tech support cannot do something within 15 minutes of contacting me today, I will be sending this back to Amazon and buying another Yale lock with Z WAVE or another technology...... ... show more
