Top Amazon Reviews

  • Outstanding (with minor nitpicks). YES, keys can be copied, and NO, the USB port can't be hacked!
Style: Built-in Wi-Fi+Fingerprint
Short version: This smart lock was easy to install and operate. Connected to the app without hassle, and I'm now locking and unlocking with my fingerprint, phone, smartwatch and occasionally keys (which can be copied - see below) with total ease and reliability. Liked it so much, I bought one of Eufy's C210 WiFi doorbell cams, and they work perfectly together. For the record, this review was completely unsolicited and I purchased this lock on my own. My one suggestion: This lock really should have a door ajar feature. You can currently tell whether the bolt is extended or not, but many other brands have magnetic sensors that let you know if the door failed to latch properly. Bonus suggestions: Geolocation and allowing the lock to unlatch automatically when you return home would be nice, and the app desperately needs a battery percentage function! The longer version: This lock replaced a smart lock by another brand that satisfied me about 80 percent. My fingerprint rarely unlocked the deadbolt on the first try with that other brand, and their app consistently had trouble communicating with the lock. That other brand offered automatic unlocking as a feature, but it was hit or miss. I was going to live with the shortcomings, until I saw the Eufy announcement. I purchased this lock the same day I received that introductory announcement, and after doing very little research. Why? Because I've had such good experiences with Eufy products that I knew it would work. My hunch was well rewarded. INSTALLATION: The first YouTube review I found had a guy showing how to install one of these. I didn't even need to crack open the instruction manual. FORM FACTOR: This Eufy lock is a little on the large size compared to other smart locks I've seen, but the ability to cram in 8 AA batteries and not have to worry about power for 8 months is a tradeoff I'm willing to make. TECHNOLOGY: The app is nicely streamlined and intuitive. The lock's ability for the app to register a fingerprint and improve its recognition after repeated uses is a huge selling point for me. My fingerprints (I've registered multiple) work immediately about 90 percent of the time. If you use a passcode, don't forget to press the little shield icon on the bottom right of the keypad to complete the sequence. That same button can be used to manually lock the deadbolt. BATTERY USAGE: The unit comes with 8 Anker-branded AA alkaline batteries (Anker is Eufy's parent company), but I decided to experiment out of the box with the rechargeable Ni-MH 2000 mAh batteries I use on almost all of my devices. The power drain appears to be as advertised, despite multiple people using the fingerprint reader and keypad. NOISE LEVEL: Medium, and probably on the lower end of the scale in terms of motor whirring and bolt clicking into place. Remember that you can disable the beeping sounds in the app. WIFI: Most locks of this type are not compatible with 5 GHz signals, so you have to use 2.4 GHz. Worked fine with my Apple Airport Extreme router, which allowed me to split my signals and put this on the 2.4 GHz side of my WiFi, and the install was seamless when I switched to an Amazon Eero Pro 6E mesh router. APP: The app is totally easy and intuitive. My one gripe is that it shows a battery power icon, but doesn't say the percentage of power remaining so I can calculate the daily/weekly/monthly drain. That would be a huge plus and hopefully will be addressed in future software/firmware updates. SECURITY: It's nice to have a log of who entered and how. The app will tell you that the door was unlocked manually, or someone unlocked it by fingerprint, or by the app. The "Scramble Passcode" option is pretty cool, and allows you to enter random numbers before and/or after your chosen code so someone looking over your shoulder won't be able to get your number. Like most deadbolts, this isn't going to stop a serious thief. While hacking is highly unlikely if you don't use 1234 as your passcode, it's probably not going to stand up to a hard kick. KEYS (YES, THEY CAN BE COPIED FOR SPARES): I'm not sure why so many people are complaining that they can't copy the keys, because I made several backups without any hassle. I had several copies made at a popular self-serve key duplication kiosk that can be found in many grocery stores. The lock itself comes with two keys, which are a nice security blanket that I've mostly not used. It should be noted that the LOCK ITSELF cannot be rekeyed, like some other brands. HACKING FEARS: No! The emergency USB power port at the bottom of the unit is for power only, not for data transfer, and therefore isn't vulnerable to hackers. The manufacturer's description of the lock addresses this non-issue. Besides, YouTube is filled with lock-picking how-to guides, and as mentioned before, the vast majority of residential deadbolts can be defeated with a well-placed kick, a crowbar or a hammer. Do you honestly believe some member of the Impossible Mission Force is going to jack into your lock and hack it? Locks like these absolutely need a way to restore power externally, because a lot of us are going to get lazy about changing the batteries and end up on the wrong side of a powerless lock without a key. VIDEO DOORBELL INTEGRATION: A day after installing this, I bought the Eufy C210 Video doorbell. The two devices synched up with very little effort, and this doorbell works much better with Alexa than the Ring doorbell I'm replacing. Also, while Eufy has a cloud storage option, there's no mandatory subscription, and you can monitor motion events remotely and also have them stored locally on a MicroSD card. OVERALL: So far, so good. I'm impressed and think this lock was a great investment. I think this is a perfect choice for anyone who wants the convenience of a keyless lock that also allows reliable temporary access to contractors and other visitors. ... show more

  • Excellent for humid environments
Style: Built-in WiFi
I replaced a very expensive Schlage elock with this. Has a GREAT barrier to prevent moisture build up which is what kept happening with Schlage. Pros: Recommend for beach houses. Great mositure barrier. Easy to install. App is easy to use and can delete and add multiple codes with time specifications. Cons: My only complaint about this lock is it requires a little explanation for people to use it to use the one push lock feature. You have to hold the one button lock feature down for a period of time and most people think they can hit it quickly and walk away. Also the difference in color between locked door and lock jam is very subtle so if for some reason the bolt doesn't slide fully, it is hard to tell if it locked or if it didn't other than the app telling you. Overall EXCELLENT inexpensive lock with better quality than some expensive locks with same features. ... show more
