  • Constant Troubleshooting At 1st - Giving It A 2nd Chance and It Was Worth It!
Color: Grey
EDIT #3: Another 7-8 months in use and this self-cleaning litter box is still running strong! I’m changing my review to 5 stars. The first machine must have been a lemon. We have had no issues with this new machine and I’m so thankful to give my cat a clean space to do his business. _______________________ EDIT #2: So far we’ve had no issues with the new machine. It runs smooth and the motor seems to be quieter than the last. We’re one month into using the new machine and our kitty is very happy to have a consistently clean litter box! Extra points to customer service for following up to make sure we weren’t having any issues with this replacement - thank you Ashley! I’m changing the rating from 1 star to 3 stars. I’ll update again in a few months when we reach the point in time of the first machine’s issues. _______________________ EDIT: Customer support reached out and sent a new machine at no additional cost since we are within our 1-year warranty. Not sure how to dispose of the old one, but we don’t have to ship it back. We’re going to get it setup and see if maybe the first was a lemon, or if the same issues persist. Hopefully this new one will work smoothly. I will update again with info on my experience, but it may take a few months to see if problems will occur again. Wish me luck - I’ll keep you posted! _______________________ We loved it for the first couple months. Everything worked well and quietly. The top bin for collection is easy to remove. Then, the trouble started. For the past 6+ months we have troubleshot everything. The rake gets stuck up and stops cleaning. It gets stuck down, too, and then our cat can’t use the litter box at all. The only way to fix it is to power cycle it by unplugging and plugging it back in after 10 seconds. This is a challenge when we aren’t home, especially if we’re gone a few days. AND, sometimes that still doesn’t work. Sometimes we have to clean the sensors. Sometimes we press the buttons to reset. We even changed litters to hopefully help to no avail. We haven’t figured out a rhyme or reason for its issues, or how we fix it each time. We just try everything and eventually it will come around to functioning again for a few days. Then the troubleshooting starts over because it stops working again. To be clear, we have researched the help and FAQ on the product website, read up on options in forums, and are thoroughly aware of all product manuals and guides. At this point, it’s easier for us to clean a regular litter box than to constantly deal with these issues and risk our cat not having a place to relieve himself. We’re still within the one-year warranty window, but we have to pay for shipping this broken piece of crap (pun intended) back and for shipping the new one out to us, plus a PayPal fee, plus a 5% service charge. It’s not worth it.. Save your money and scoop the poop or spend the $$ to get a name brand, known, and warranty-covered-without-hidden-fees automatic litter box. This has been such a disappointment. ... show more

  • *Update* HARD PASS Beware of pee.
Color: Grey
****Updated Edit **** A dumb design causing serious problems. This is a very expensive robot that almost guarantees pee on your floor. The smell got so bad my cats decided to start peeing in my bedroom to get my attention and investigate. I took pictures with and without the step grate to show there is literally nothing stopping cat urine from dripping down into the step and more importantly ONTO THE FLOOR UNDERNEATH IT. Fortunately I have a huge litter mat underneath the machine preventing it from damaging my floors but it’s been soaking up and drying out urine for weeks unnoticed. And there’s no workaround to fix it. There will always be a big stupid open gap that accesses the bare floor right next to the litter box door. **original** It’s not as loud as I was expecting, quieter than a Roomba or wall air conditioner. Assembly was easy enough although it took me a few minutes to configure the step correctly. The app is adequate although not configured for multicat use. I’m still trying to find the most reasonable cat litter for clumping. The downside: The cats aren’t sold on it. I have a regular box next to it for now while they adapt. They prefer the interior light on it to be off, which is fortunately a feature in the app. I noticed that even with the xl size there’s not as much space for them to turn around in it. And they’re not big or heavy cats. However my biggest issue is that the step going into it is hollow and so the cats will pee down the grate into that empty space. Which can (and will) leak onto the floor without a mat underneath. Cleanup for that is not good nor easy. ... show more

  • This vs Litter Robot 3
Color: Grey
I had a litter robot 2 and two of the litter robot 3's before buying this automatic litter box. I liked the first litter robot I had but the second and third generations had a lot more mechanical parts to them and a bunch of flashing lights to signal if their were errors. The lights would constantly be flashing because something was almost always wrong with it. It would constantly get stuck in cycle mode and they were just too much of a hassle, especially for the price. Literally, every week something would be wrong with it and They are not cheap. When they work, they are great and don't have to clean it out as much as this KungFu litter box. I switched to the Kungfu litter box because of the frustration I had with litter robot 3 and wanted to try something else. Now onto KungFu litter box: I have had it now for about 8 months. It seems simpler in design than the litter robot 2, 3, and 4 (ie. less to go wrong with it). A rake swings down from the top back scooping the litter into a compartment up top and to the back. The first day I had it, the rack would try to work but got stuck. I freaked out but that was due to the PTSD from the Litter Robot constantly malfunctioning. I eventually realized I had too much litter in it. When I took out some litter, the rake worked fine. There must be a pressure sensor, so when it has to push too hard through the litter (because there is a lot of litter pee clumps attaching to the bottom or too much litter which makes it too heavy), it won't rake through the litter and will beep at you twice. The rake always does 2 rounds of raking. I haven't had any further issues with the rake....I do need to figure out how to take it off so I can clean it thoroughly. That doesn't seem intuitive as I tried but I also didn't really read the manual about it yet! So that is on me. It also came with an extra rake, just FYI. That seems to be the only mechanical piece that really matters if there is a malfunction. The only other mechanical parts that can malfunction are the door that closes as it cleans itself with the rake and the UV light. I have not had any issues with either of those. I have 2 cats, a 25 pound orange cat and a 13 pound black cat. Both use the same litter box. I have to change out the bag in the back every 2 days. It comes with black bags but they were a little too small and awkward for my liking. So I got a big box of Kirkland clear plastic trash bags and they work great. It is easy to change the bag as that compartment comes out. I do still need to scoop some caked on pee clumps at the bottom and some rogue poops but may not have to if I changed the bag a little sooner. The step in front of the litter box is basically a box with a grate on top that catches most of the litter from the cats' feet as they come out. So less mess. The Litter Robot didn't have that. So that was a nice touch! That step also detaches from the litter box and you can pull out the compartment that holds all the litter the cats use. So you can easily empty out all the litter and put new litter in and/or clean it. I didn't realize it had a plastic film over it and noticed after about a month, the litter had plastic film pieces in it. As I took out the litter drawer, I see a sticker that says "Do Not Remove this plastic film." I didn't remove it but the cat's pee or scratching or something has made it so that it has torn and come up on it's own. I don't know how much it really matters but time will tell I guess. The litter box is made of plastic, so not really sure what the plastic film does. All in all, it is a good reliable automated litter box. I think it is probably perfect for someone with just 1 cat. Multiple cats would kind of defeat the purpose of this automatic litter box as you would need to change the waste collection area quite frequently (daily to every other day). Yes, you don't have to necessarily rake the pee and poo as that is what is automated with this litter box (although I still have to depending on how often the waste compartment gets changed) but a bigger compartment would mean I would have to do it much less. The other option is to get one for each cat but I did have 2 litter robots each set in a different area of the house but they would always just use one of them. I have read reviews on here about people having issue with the rake not working. Again, make sure that there is not too much litter in it or it will not work. That should be the first thing someone checks. It doesn't do well with a lot of litter. Anyways, I hope this review helps some people make an informed decision! ... show more
