🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

These reviews reveal that the XXL Rabbit Cage is a spacious and appreciated habitat for small pets, especially rabbits. It elicits positive remarks for its size and pet-friendliness. However, the cage has some weak areas, including the difficulty in assembly, its somewhat flimsy build, and few design flaws like the positioning of the food bowl and water bottle.

Pros

  • 🐇 Excellent size, providing ample room for pets
  • 🐾 Attachment allows space for a litter box without reducing play area
  • 🏡 Pets appear to enjoy the space offered by the cage
  • 🍽️ Integrated food bowl and water bottle

Cons

  • 🔨 Assembly can be challenging and time-consuming
  • 💧 Included water bottle is prone to leaking
  • 🚪 The door design is considered flimsy and not easy to operate
  • 🏗️ The overall build of the cage is described as not very sturdy

Should I Buy It?

If your main priority is space for your pet and you're willing to replace parts like the water bottle and contend with a somewhat tricky assembly process, this rabbit cage could be a very suitable option. However, those seeking a cage with a robust build and user-friendly assembly may want to keep searching.

  • Very nice cage! Very nice cage!
Style: XXL Rabbit Cage
I love this rabbit cage. I actually bought it for my 3 week old chicks because they put grew the brooder I had them in. This cage has ample space as it is currently housing 6 chicks who are now 6 weeks old. (Going outside to their coop soon) It was kind of tricky putting it together at first. Just make sure you have someone to help you. Over all it’s a wonderful product. I don’t have the accessories attached that came with it so they’re not in the photo, but this is a very large cage. I got the XXL. ... show more

  • Great cage for 2 guinea pigs - didn't have any problems putting it together
Style: XXL Rabbit Cage
I just purchased this cage, and we've had our two new guinea pigs in it for a few days now. I'm not sure why other buyers had so much trouble getting it put together. My husband and I put it together in about an hour, without any real problems, though these types of things are never simple in my experience. The directions aren't spectacular, but it was enough information that we could get it put together. I did use a rubber mallet to GENTLY tap in a few of the plastic pieces, just because I didn't want to risk breaking the plastic by pushing on it. That worked like a charm. One thing we did discover is that there is one large piece that consists of the majority of the wire part of the cage, and this piece can be "inside out." I'm not sure how else to describe it. Basically the piece is the top of the large section of the cage, with the sides already attached, and you have to be sure to fold the sides the correct way, or it doesn't line up correctly and won't fit into the plastic base. We started with it "inside out," and immediately realized it needed to go the other way. I could see how if someone didn't realize this, it would make the cage very difficult to put together. I wonder if this may be part of the problems that people are talking about. So far, in use, the guinea pigs love it. It's nice and roomy. I actually ended up taking out the platform, and using a different hideaway, because it makes it easier to clean. My piggies insisted on peeing under the platform, and it was possible to clean under it, but I didn't want to encourage the behavior. I'm actually utilizing the small section of the cage as a "litter box" for them, and they seem to be getting the hang of going in that area instead of other places in the cage. I love the two big front doors. They open very easily and stay up, which makes it very easy to get the guinea pigs out and to clean up the cage. I'm very happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • It's a cage....a big cage
Style: XXL Rabbit Cage
Okay so as people have stated this is a pain in the @$$ to put together. For whatever reason the base was such a hassle... almost like the pieces don't really fit...not sure but eventually got it. It is flimsy to a degree but most cages are before you get them together. I haven't put it fully together yet because I'm moving soon but not sure how sturdy it will be....glad I have some zip ties lying around cus I'm sure it will need them.....It does come with instructions but if you've ever put a cage together then you will be able to figure it out. I suggest getting help simply because the pieces are so large they will fall before you can properly get them together and plus it just will be really helpful. My cage came cracked which is unfortunate but the crack wasn't too terrible...maybe 2 inches or so so I just cut my loses and threw some heavy glue in/on it. I wouldn't recommend putting the level in the cage unless your pets are small. I had a level in my old cage and my rabbits pushed their heads under it and also it fell a lot..... Just my personal thoughts - could be dangerous. I don't know how well it would be for guinea pigs because the ramp is vertical with very little slope..... The accessories also seem cheaply made...I'd almost just recommend getting other water bottles like the glass ones which will last forever. I don't know I think that about sums it up. This cage is really big which is super nice. Be sure you have the space...if a person couldn't lay in the space comfortably then the cage wont fit there either. It's huge (but the size description will tell you that). Despite it just being a pain in the booty to handle and stuff I'd say it's worth the buy....there's a chance the product will be damaged but that's with anything you order....yep ... show more

  • XXL Cage - Detailed Review XXL Cage - Detailed Review
Style: XXL Rabbit Cage
I ordered this cage to house my guinea pigs. I have a background in veterinary medicine with exotics and am keenly aware that the majority of cages aren't large enough by far and this was the largest that I seen that was all one level (guinea pigs have spines that are different than most rodents and so wheels, exercise balls, and shelves that they can slip off of are dangerous for them. That isn't an opinion or question, but a factual statement.) so I ordered one. My first statement is this: some cages you have to interpret the instructions because they're unclear and then hope for the best. This isn't one of those cages. Follow the instructions to the letter and you'll get a decent cage. Deviate at all even a little bit and it's not going to be a fun time. If you're lost there are videos on YouTube showing you how step by step. The good: the size is great, I removed the divider to produce the maximum amount of floor area then I bought a large folding table and put the cage atop that in a nondrafty area. Sturdiness when put together Height of bedding skirt to keep shavings or carefresh from falling out The food bowl and hay lofts fit well and don't spill much Ease of cleaning. Remove your pet, take the top off, use a spatula from the dollar tree that is the "animal spatula" to scrape off any major debris, and go hose off the entire bottom outside. Super easy to clean and very pleased about that aspect. The bottom is ridged to let any pieces fall out. The bad/ could be improved: The little shelf that this comes with to create a partial second layer isn't inherently bad, but the opening is relatively narrow for multiple pigs to go through at once and I'd worry about them bickering or being anxious about going in and out often enough. Removing the ramp piece to simply make it a hide that they don't have their food on top of remedied this. If your animal gets anxious about going in and out then you're going to get a build up of waste and ammonia in the hide itself The black plastic wire stabilizers weren't great. I used a bag of zip ties for this instead and just cut the extra off. The water bottle is only good for as long as your guinea pigs don't try to consume the entire bottle like madmen. They can reach to chew on it if they're dedicated, causing leaks. Less of a problem on their part and more just my pigs are possessed. I changed it out for a glass bottle (lixit 26oz) and haven't had further issue. The divider would not work well to temporarily separate pigs even during cleaning There are multiple doors but the cage feels off kilter if you use any but the main door. The main door is large and let's me reach everything, but the doors could be a bit more secure. Overall, I'm planning on buying a second one and anticipate this one lasting at least +8 years or so. Very pleased and any negative was easily navigatable. ... show more

  • 5 stars, pros and cons
Style: XXL Rabbit Cage
Assembly- a little annoying but one person can do it. You can get creative on clip placement. Durability-bottoms a bit flimsy if you're moving it but perfectly fine for daily use when sitting there. Love the double doors and the extra side door. Basically wherever you place the connectors and clips you can choose where you want your doors. Carrier attachment- The door to this sucks as you must lift and detach vs swing open. It's a little difficult taking off and reattaching the extra carrier area. I would only recommend the attachment as a carrier for long rides. Buy a regular one for frequent small trips. Comes with 2 hay feeders which work fine but aren't mess proof and bad for cage transporting and 2 water bottles. The water bottles do not leak but they will not stay in place as the rabbit nibbles the tip because he wants more flow. Useless. In the end for a 5 ft cage you won't find better. This is the best pet rabbit cage that is non grated period due to the space and door accessibility. But don't expect to use the extras that come with it. Oh, forgot to say the ramp and bowl were tossed to the side as soon as I unboxed. Staircase is a bad joke and that bowl shouldn't be used for rabbits. With that ramp you'll have a mess everywhere. ... show more

  • Large cage - separator useless
Style: XXL Rabbit Cage
For starters I don’t review many items. When I do there is a reason. The reason - in this case is that the cage in question does not work efficiently in the way that the ad suggested. There is supposed to be a section of cage that slides up and down to separate the extension - unfortunately when you put the cage together following the directions there are 2 retaining clips that hold the separate sections together. These clips when placed where the directions suggest block the sliding portion from moving up and down. Without the clips the cage seems unstable - you are left with a choice - sliding separator or stability. Also the directions are not very clear - in fact they are backwards if you put the cage together following the directions you will end up with a cage that is backwards where the small cage section is over the long half and the large cage section is over the small part. ( opposite of what makes sense and what you see in the pictures. ). That being said there are still some good things about this cage - the plastic walls are very deep preventing the critters from kicking bedding or hey out of the cage. The external hey feeders are nice and the cage is very very large. The water bottles are ok - a little flimsy and I am not sure how long they will last. The food dish is nice with a raised portion on the platform to prevent it from being moved around. The very large from door - which raises up is convenient and will make it easy to remove and replace the family of guinea pigs we have in there. Overall if I had know that the extension portion would not work as advertised without loosing stability of the cage I would not have ordered this particular cage. ... show more

  • Easy to assemble, big
Style: XXL Rabbit Cage
I bought the XXL cage for my 2 baby guinea pigs. I wanted a cage that they can grow into as they get bigger. I'm really happy with the size of this cage, I feel like it will give my piggies a great quality of life since it provides a lot of room for them to move around and play! I think the piggies enjoy having two water bottles and hay feeders, I've seen them using those at the same time. Now they don't have to wait for their turn. The instructions were clear and showed pictures for each step. Some people have complained that this product was difficult to assemble and that the directions were hard to interpret, but I honestly had no issues, and I was even putting it together by myself without my husband's help and with our 3 young toddlers running about and asking questions and touching everything. It was no problem, I just took everything out, cleaned my workspace, unpacked everything, laid everything out, scanned over the directions to get a sense of how each step was organized. Then I started on step letter A and followed along with each following step as I went. I wasn't in a big hurry, and I tried to just focus on one step at a time. My piggies really seem to enjoy their new home! I was using the Living World large size cage, but I'm replacing it with this bigger cage! I think this is a better option, and still a very attractive cage too! I'm really happy with my purchase, and I don't anticipate having to ever need to replace this unit! :-) ... show more

  • We Really Wanted To Like This, but there are Flaws
Style: XXL Rabbit Cage
We really liked the size of this cage, and we’re excited to set it up. Things took a wrong turn about halfway through the assembly when I was trying to join the extension to the main section. There are plastic clips that are supposed to click in place. These are difficult to attach, and do not stay in place even under the weight of the cage itself. It was clear there was no way they would ever stay in place. This part really needs a re-design, and makes this cage a non-starter. You could use zip ties, but this defeats the purpose of being able to break it down or clean it easily. If it were net for these I might have tried to keep this and give more stars, but these were just incredibly frustrating. Also, there are no pull out trays for cleaning, which you may want for done animals, there is no real door. The whole side of the cage opens up. There is no top door, which can be very useful for small animals. The cage is very flimsy, and would require some significant modification to strengthen it. I could do all of these things, but then cleaning would be very difficult. We have a golden retriever, she probably would not try to go after our smaller animals, but a small or medium dog could very easily collapse this cage and get to whatever is inside. A cat could do it as well. We ended up returning this and buying a more expensive unit from Petsmart. For just $50 more we could get much better quality. It was not even comparable. This is an expensive cage, and given the issues, is about 2x too much. It really does need a re-design. I would give two stars, but the connectors are just awful. ... show more
