After wasting money on three different automated models that seem to confound our nannies, I finally decided to just get a manual version. The nannies were trying to open the automated ones by pulling them up, which would cause them not to close all the way and also strip out gears. They simply could not figure out the whole 'wave you hand over the sensor thing' (scary since they were helping with our kids the first couple of years). Well, the nannies are gone, but our toddlers were touching the automated ones too much, so I decided to go for something a little more obvious. I bought a manual version and chose the Kohler based on so many good reviews. I am glad I did. It's not falling apart like the display models of various brands in the stores. Pros - Obvious and easy to use - Sturdy foot pedal design that isn't likely to break, and it's wider than many - Closes very gently - Easy to clean - Easy to change bags (take out inner shell, remove bag, put in new bag, place inner shell bag into can) - Bags are hidden from view - Bags always stay in place (unlike those metal bar versions where the bag pulls out from under them) CONS - Really none. The up front price is steep, but considering I had spent over a $100 three straight years for cheaply designed automated ones, I am really pleased with this one after 6 months. ... show more

I love these Kohler trash cans with the step lid. They're very good about blocking garbage odors from escaping and very easy to pull the bin out. It's pretty large and holds the standard size trash bags. It's kinda pricey, but I think it's worth it.

This garbage can is the best I've ever owned. I've had it for two months with no problems at all. I wish I had ordered it years ago. It keeps odors in and is very easy to keep clean. No smudges. The bags fit perfectly. We are very happy with this purchase. update: It will be three months old Wednesday. This morning It would open half way.     • Hands down, The best garbage can I have ever had.

I would give this garbage can twenty stars if I could. It's sleek, easy to clean and the peddle mechansim works great. The design to put in and take out the bag is well thought out. You step on the peddel and then lift the plastic part that holds the bag down, which makes the top stay open, you can then pull the bag out very easily without having to keep foot on the peddle or have the whole top try to close on you the whole time you are pulling the bag out. I highly recommend this instead of an automatic mechanized battery or plug in can - for a very simple device you like this you want something that you can clean without worrying about electronic components. With this one you can lift out the inner compartment to clean it, as well as hose down the entire inside and outside without having to worry about shorting anything at all. You also will rarely have to touch any part of the garbage can that can get finger prints on it, which keeps it so nice and shiny and clean! Very well designed, and easy to use. ... show more

This is a very beautiful and streamlined trash can. I took away one star because it was dented when I received it and it doesn't fit in my pantry like my other trash can did. But I'm gonna be moving and hopefully I can have a place where I can put it words not so noticeable. I'm disappointed about the Dent but when you only put padding on the top and bottom and it's in a thin box it's gonna get dented. Not blaming Kohler for this it's probably got mishandled by FedEx and all the other people who handled it. I'm still very happy with my purchase it looks beautiful And I love that I don't have to touch the trash can to throw away stuff. ... show more

Who would think I would spend so much money on a trash can? Not me! But it is a great trash can that I am pleased to have purchased! It is easy to clean. It has a soft closing lid. It holds regular trash bags...no special bags needed. It is a little heavy to move around but it does have a hand hold in the back of the can. You can open the black frame and it will hold the lid open when you are using the trash can multiple times in a short or long period of time. I have sat by the kitchen trash can while eating my meals for years. They have been ugly but it was the only place I could put one in my tiny kitchen. There are several things I love about this garbage can. 1. The foot pedal. It’s big and opens the lid quickly and completely without much effort. It’s perfect. 2. The soft close lid. It closes very softly and quietly. It perfect. 3. The inner garbage can. It is easy to pull out of the can when changing bags. It it super sturdy and easy to clean if your bag leaks. It is also exactly the right size for a 13 gallon trash bag. The bag fits snuggly inside, not too tight or too loose and keeps the bag open fully. It’s perfect. 4.
