The distance between the two laser spots on the surface of the object being measured approximates the diamater of the circular measurement area from which the infrared sensor is collecting data. I had the cheap knock offs bearing different names albeit having the same inside components. I also have the Fluke 62 Max. Some of the knock offs now are only about 30% cheaper than this Klein. Fluke is at least 30% more expensive with even less features. This unit has the perfect balance among features, durability, accuracy, and price - dual laser, 12:1, min-max-ave-diff, and easy to set and use. Just point and shoot. The only feature that is less than the others is it can only go 752F (400C) max. But since I will only use it mainly to monitor the house, car, oven, and grill that maxes out at 600F for searing, this unit is good enough for the range. ... show more

Works good. I’m a HVAC technician and a tool nut I have a Milwaukee a UEI and the Klein. And many times Ive used them side by side to assure no drastic differences in temperatures and the Klein holds up well. No need to spend over a hundred bucks on one to get perfectly accurate readings, the Klein does just fine.. I recommend this or any Klein tools to anyone looking for good and reliable products in the field ... show more

Bought this to map out an under-slab hot water leak. Worked perfectly for this. Later checked accuracy against objects hooked to a thermocouple reference. Reads +/- .25f which for a remote thermometer is good for $$. Like the mode features, particularly the dual laser dots for bracketing measurement spot. A bit more expensive but recommended if want an accurate sensor with mode features. ... show more
