We took this to Salem with us so the kids could bring it along on tours and exploring the area. Super easy to use. Love that it already comes with a battery and ready to go. Plan on using it whenever we go exploring ruins on hikes and such as the kids love to ghost hunt.     • Good thermometer with some caveats

I like that the laser is nice & bright, easy to see outdoors. It's easily switched between Celsius & Fahrenheit (maybe a bit too easy) and reads quickly. You can turn the laser off, but I'm not sure what the advantage is, maybe to read ambient temperature? The numbers are nice & big, easy to read and the body is a great, easy to spot, orange so it'll stand out in the tool box. I'm not sure about the accuracy yet, I'll test that when we get some colder days and there's snow on the ground. Overall, I like the thermometer. Here's what I don't like: There's no lanyard, so there's no way to attach it to your wrist. I use mine around my marina a lot, and a drop means I lose it into saltwater. That means even if I recover it (depends on the current), the electronics are unlikely to survive. I plan to drill a hole in the base of the battery door and thread a piece of paracord through with a sliding knot so I can put it around my wrist & snug it up. The other thing I don't like is the noise when you pull the trigger. The electronic beep is just too loud for me and I find it annoying. It'd be nice to be able to control the volume, or simply switch it off. I suppose I could wire in a resistor to tone it down, but that sounds like too much work. I'll probably just put some tape over the speaker hole and see how much that quiets it down. ... show more

Great product, very easy to use. Readings I get on items such as a pan in the oven are consistent with what I would expect (similar to the set oven temperature) so the unit seems to be fairly accurate.

    • Works pretty good.

I don't plan on using it on anything more than my cast iron when I am grilling so I just select the setting that most matches the cast iron when it reaches the temperature I want. Usually around 425 degrees. I tested it agains another thermo gun and they were both close enough to cook.
