abunda_amazon_reviews Bought this to replace an aging, loyal Fluke that died after many years of service. Less than 5 years from retirement, I chose not to buy a tool that cost roughly 4 times as much as this one. It is true however, you do get what you pay for. As this is a new purchase, I'll update this review with any operational issues. This comes with a serviceable nylon case that has a magnetic/Velcro strap attached to the case. The case has a vinyl window that will invariably crack or become too difficult to see through, two Velcro straps for T'couple attachment to pipes, etc, a a cheap battery, a nice rubber boot, and 2 t'couples. Several things I already don't like. It takes way more force to insert the t'couple plugs than is reasonable. When the resolution is set to whole numbers, no decimals, the reported temp has an annoying "0" in front of it. This should be a simple coding fix in the firmware. Proper up front engineering would not have added any cost to correct these items. Only being able to see one temp without togging to see the other one is absurd. The previous items are annoying and never should have been alowed to market. The next item may be a deal killer for me. The "ON" button is a momentary push button that will get easily bumped, and without an auto off function, this thing will gnaw through batteries at a furious pace. The power switch needs to be a slide style and the Min/Max function should be programmed to over-ride the auto off. A little more cost but, not exorbitant to fix. $5 added to the cost would have been easily offset by the effect this could have on productivity. Aside form the cost of the batteries, the value of the time lost running to the truck and replacing them will be more than an annoyance. Yup, you certainly get what you pay for. Update 3/31/20 At the price point it is at, if this is all your budget allows then go for it. The on/off switch and the single temp at a time aren't worth it to me. Other options out there are more expensive but much more attractive. Why is it so darn large? And, the probes don't seat well into the slot where they attach to the device. You'd think the probes would attach nicely, even snap in. In fact, I initially pushed one of the probes too hard expecting them to do that, bent the metal end of the probe. It's crazy the way they appear to seat at a mid point, not pushing all the way in to the device. You never have a good feel as to whether the probes are fully/properly attached. I also kept reading reviews here indicating a need to calibrate the probes before first use. There were no instructions on how to do that. Overall, simply disappointed in the product. The rubber boot and case are also handy. And the Velcro straps will hold me over until I decide to dish out the money for clamp type thermocouples. Initial impressions... the unit feels rugged. Instructions for use molded into the actual plastic case and in the rubber (ized?) outer protective cover. Initial test with "room temperature" and both probes, meter set to T1-T2 shows accuracy within 0.5 deg F. (Like I said, not a strenuous test.) What I did notice, however, is that the K type thermocouples included do not do high temperature and are limited to 400F continuous operation. This is not an issue with the thermocouple device itself, but the insulation used on the wires. You can order the ATBF1 high-temperature thermocouples if you need to do higher temperature readings. I would suspect that not everyone needs these, but I bought this to be able to quickly check soldering iron tip temperatures, and to double-check a couple of inexpensive tip-temperature sensing devices that I have. So, until the ATBF1 thermocouples arrive, I'll just be noodling around with this. Like other comments... I would like a backlight and an auto-off capability.
