  • Great product
Why did you pick this product vs others?: This worked perfectly! Yup, it vibrated, the on/off switch is inconveniently located, it's a bit thin. But, it worked flawlessly to pluck 15 birds today. Super fast, maybe 30 seconds per bird, and it plucked them clean! No bruising, no damage to the meat. Absolutely recommend this product! I was waiting to see how processing day went, and with these results, I'll be doing 40 birds next year. Very glad I didn't rent a plucker! ... show more

  • Good plucker!
The plucker worked well. Most of the feathers plucked most of the time. It mangled a few birds by ripping off their heads and breaking legs and wings. A few birds had ripped skin as well. It was still worth it to have feather free birds in 30 seconds each, though.

  • Huge time saver - power cord too short-not assembled correctly
Processed our first 23 Cornish Cross yesterday - HUGE time saver. Assembly was super easy, quality parts (although I think bolts and nuts are not stainless steel). Cons: Cord is too short to be working around all that water. Another issue - the plug was intermittent, diagnosed down to a loose ground in plug (screw wasn't tight). But still have an issue where I had to angle the male prongs in plug to get it to work. During that time we had to hand plug 2 chickens and boy does that take way more time 8-10 mins vs the 15-30 seconds the machine does My advise: longer cord and proper assembly of plug. I will rebuild it with an 8-10' cord and plug before our next round for sure. ... show more

  • Processed 150 Chickens with this machine-- Highly Recommend
We processed 150 chickens this year using this plucker. Overall the plucker did a great job, I only have a few small complaints and thoughts 1. It can handle 2 pretty good sized birds without struggling. In fact, it seemed to perform better in some ways with 2 carcasses bouncing around inside the drum. With only one carcass, the bird would occasionally get stuck in one spot with the machine still running, which doesn't remove any additional feathers and risks tearing the skin. It is not a big deal at all to simply poke the chicken with your hand to get it moving again, but worth mentioning. 2. The motor will only turn on if you have attached the included contact switch to the bottom of the drum. We have had no issues yet, but I have noticed the cord tends to get beat on a little. Admittedly I don't treat it like a delicate flower, but I do wish the cord was a little more robust, or out of the way. 3. We processed both the standard Cornish X, and a slower growing Red Ranger variety. The plucker cleaned our Cornish Cross beautifully, but it struggled a little with the Red Rangers. Their feathers were denser and longer, and tended to jam up the drum unless we were vigilant about running water through every couple of birds. The plucker also tends to leave feathers on the tail and "elbow" in both bird varieties. I think that is probably normal for a non-commercial machine, so just be prepared do a tiny bit of post-pluck inspection. The quality of the plucking also improved exponentially as we learned how to scald more effectively. 4. The wheels tend to fall off. I lost one hitch pin and the other wheel shook loose while I was trying to replace the first. Irritating, but only a problem when moving the machine. I want to note that these are all VERY minor complaints. Overall I am very satisfied with this plucker and would happily recommend it to just about everyone. It should be noted that we really put it to the test with 150 birds, more than half of them Red Rangers with very dense feathers. We were also first-timers to the whole process in general. We were able to kill 50 chickens on the final day, and the plucker was absolutely not holding us back. For anyone processing a flock, this will absolutely get the job done. ... show more

  • Amazing Amazon Lightening Deal! Quality product, easy to assemble, easy clean & move around!
Amazing Amazon Lightening Deal! And what a true deal this was! A quality made product, the only one with free shipping to AK to boot. It’s a big deal to me because shipping alone to AK for pluckers are easily $400-600, costing as much or more than the actual product. Assembly is very simple, easy to clean up, easy to move and a great price. I like that the wheels only roll and make contact with the ground when tilted to move, which make it very stable while in operation. The only modification I will make to my plucker is to extend the feather waste shoot down beyond manufacturer’s specs and angled away from the motor so the feathers don’t get sucked in and lodged up in there. This one doesn’t have the water valve attachment to hook up to hot water while in operation, so we used a bucket filled with hot water and that worked even better, plus it really stripped the feathers faster & flushed the feather waste out quickly. I highly recommend this plucker! Update 7/19/20: I’ve added pictures to show my simple adaptation to prevent the feathers from getting sucked up in the motor. I used a cutting board, angled it under the shoot with a rock and it works like a charm. I also recommend having an ideal scald temp (we use 148- 150 degrees) and a proper soak, it is key to not running the machine as long = less possibility of broken limbs. We put in less birds, doing two Cornish cross birds at a time, to minimize bone breakage and run the machine for a shorter amount of time. ... show more

  • Reassembly required
I haven't even used it yet but I don't have high expectations if quality control isn't important. I put all the legs on and installed the tub with the feather plate in it to the motor base only to find out the tabs to lock the tub to the motor base was at the top instead of on the bottom. I took it off and compared it to the instructions and realized the feather plate (the bottom piece that spins) was installed upside down but you can't just take it out and flip it around because the nipples on the tub are in the way. So now, I have to take off a retaining bracket that sits on the top to take the feather plate out so it can be installed properly. I would have returned it if I didn't need to use it right away because when I spend this amount of money on a product, I don't expect to have to disassemble it to install it. ... show more
