I almost didn't get this kettle because it's not as large as I would prefer, but it's *so* cute that I kept coming back to it. So far I've been quite happy with this. It heats up quite quickly, even when the water is fresh out of the cold tap, in the dead of winter in the northeast; and believe me, that water is COLD. The handle stays cool to the touch, and the kettle is easy to lift because it's easy to find a good balance point on the handle, something which can be a real issue with larger electric kettles we've had. As with any kettle, you need to make sure that you keep your hand back from the mouth of the kettle when you take the lid off, and that you open it away from you (i.e., open the side closest to the spout, with your hand on the other side when holding the kettle to refill it when it's hot). Our last kettle didn't allow us to turn it on right away after emptying and refilling it for some reason, but this one has given us no difficulty with that. If you want to get every last drop out, you do need to tip it way over, which is a little bit of a nuisance. Time will tell how well this holds up. The original kettle, a GE, lasted a good quarter century; but none of the others has come close to that. The cord, BTW, is the same length as that on the one which died, which was just as long as the one before, etc., despite the fact that they were different brands (except that we had two Cuisinarts along the way). You just need to unwind some from under the base. This is set by law as a "safety" feature. I agree that it's barely long enough to be useable, but it's meant to keep people from tripping over the cord if you use it somewhere other than a countertop.

I love it! We are tea drinkers. However in the past I would use the stove top kettle to heat water for instant coffe or other hot water needs. On several instances we would not hear the tea kettle “whistle” and it would boil and boil. One day it boiled down to nothing and the handle started melting. This was a safety issue. Yes we paid more attention to when we turned it on but we realized that it could happen again. We got this electric beautiful (blue to match my kitchen decor) just right size teapot. I chose kitchen aid because of the brand name I trusted for past appliances and because of the reviews, the “automatic shut off” was of most importance. No more worries about a possible kitchen fire. The exterior is easy to clean just by little soap and water. The interior after a few months is just as smooth and shiny with no corrosion I have just rinsed it out. I have no idea what some of the reviews said about plastic parts it looks like only stainless steel and or aluminum. The base has the cord that you plug into the wall in the center is a raised plug that fits into a hole in the bottom of the kettle when you place it there. If you want hot water you press a button (on side of kettle) which turns green indicating its on and within a minute you hear water heating up and a few more minutes it shuts itself off. The top pouring handle stays cool and the lid stays firmly on while pouring. It’s perfect. I highly recommend this classy looking and Safe kettle.

This kettle works well and is quick to heat water. Also it is very stylish. My only problem and the reason I'm giving this 4 out of 5 stars instead of the full 5 is due to the very short power cable. For some people they probably prefer a shorter cable if keeping the kettle right next to the plugs, but for my situation, I have cabinets that are above the plugs and the 1.5ft cable is just way too short. Almost worth finding a discrete extension for the cable.

I don't need the water from this to hit a certain temperature so it's never been an issue. probably if I were making specialized teas, I would really care that it can't do that. I love the color and that it's sturdy since my elder care folks tend to drop the kettle from time to time. It can at times be too heavy for them to pickup and lift.

After a recent trip to China where every hotel room had an electric kettle we really wanted a nice one for the house and this one has definitely not disappointed us. The kids love being able to heat water for noodles, tea, hot chocolate, etc and we even found using the French Press for coffee easier now that water can be quickly and easily heated versus the stovetop kettle we were using.
