  • Mid selection of games and bad hardware
A hard drive only worked for one day and then it stopped working. All the games were really laggy and was missing a lot of the games that I saw reveres put in their videos. Very disappointed

  • No GRAN TURISMO?!?!?!
Look I wanna start by saying that this thing is awesome it has a ton of games, nearly everything you could ever want, but I will say I was incredibly disappointed to find it doesn’t have Gran Turismo. ANY OF THEM!!! Okay well it does have Gran Turismo PSP, but come on… 1-4 at least should be here! They were some of the best selling games of their generation! I was looking very forward to playing GT1&2 on this but nope, it’s not there. Outside of this gigantic fault of mass proportions, the unit is awesome and has just about anything else you could want. I was disappointed to see that the Xbox collection is only Xbox magazine and not Xbox so there’s no Xbox games here unless I’m blind. Still worth the money. ... show more

  • Overwhelming is an understament.
I've been retro gaming since the dawn of MAME, but I got tired of hunting down ROMs, configuring everything, and setting up artwork. I was hesitant about this drive at first because I'm use to SSDs—mechanical drives are more prone to failure. That said, this is the first external hard drive I own that uses its own power supply. Maybe that's a good thing? In any case, I'm blown away by the contents. Yes, this uses the Hyperspin Attraction front end, as opposed to the 5-in-1 model. I chose this version because it includes certain games and emulators that the other one didn’t. For example, it supports Daphne, which plays Dragon’s Lair and other classic laserdisc arcade games. Some YouTube influencers complained about having to scroll through tons of collections just to find the game you want, and about the number of duplicates. Honestly, that's common with most pre-configured emulator setups. But here's the thing: you can use the shoulder buttons to jump between letters of the alphabet, and clicking the left thumbstick (I'm using an Xbox-compatible controller) brings up a handy search menu. On top of that, you can go into settings and group duplicate entries (clones), which makes navigation much easier. The amount of content is overwhelming—you'd need two full lifetimes to play it all. From ancient consoles like the Magnavox Odyssey to more recent systems (which I won’t name here), everything is fully organized. Looking at it, I know I’d never be able to set this up on my own in a million years. Almost everything worked out of the box, though a few games may need some tweaking. That usually just means opening the game’s specific emulator and adjusting its options. I had to do this for one system where the controller wasn’t recognized—but it was no big deal. Overall, this is the ultimate emulation setup. Not every system has its full game library, but honestly, it doesn’t matter. There’s already more than enough here to last a few lifetimes. ... show more

  • Problems to Expect with this HDD
I have had it for a few weeks now. With 400 emulators I have only begun to scratch the surface. Here are problems I have found so far: Sega Dreamcast: Will not play any game at all. Just crashes Retroarch Atomiswave: No controls and no way to get into retroarch as Atomiswave uses a standalone Flycast emulator. When trying to configure controls this way, half the screen is not visible making it impossible to configure buttons Sega Genesis: No controls Some Mame games have awful diagonal grey lines across the screen. Each games controls must be configured by pressing tab key when in game Xenia Xbox 360 Emulator has a slight stutter that makes games unplayable. I have emulated PS5, PS4, PS3 and PS2 and they all play fine The only thing I had to install on my gaming computer was the true type fonts file. After doing that the games would play Various games that wont start here and there. I will keep adding to this review as I learn more Update 8/28/2024: I got a new gaming pc and all the games run fine after installing the font file. I still can't get any of the Cruise'n (like Cruis'n USA) games to play. All emulators run fine now with no stutter. What does happen (and is very annoying) is when the hard drive has to load the next chunk of data. It will make a loud noise and the game you are playing freezes for a few seconds. It doesn't happen enough to kill the experience, but is still annoying. It may happen a few times in a half hour or 1 hour. It happens with all emulators. It seems to be a hardware problem. I'm surprised because it did say it was a 7200 rpm hard drive with USB 3.0. I figured this would make it fast, but it still stutters here and there ... show more
