The Kenmore unit arrived in a sturdy box, no damage and hooked up to the existing hard plumbing lines from the previous replaced unit. Professional plumber wanted $400 to install it, to cut the copper pipes and install flex tubing which was’t necessary as the new unit matched up perfectly. Wife and I installed, programmed and had it done in little more than an hour, slowly following the instructions. - I had previously ordered 2 Whirlpool (under same Umbrella corporation) units from Lowe’s: each arrived (in 2 weeks) in flimsy beat up boxes, Badly damaged and incompletely assembled, requiring return. The Kenmore unit from Amazon arrived in 2 days, is obviously made of superior materials, properly assembled and running just fine. ... show more

I had the worst experience with this product and also Kenmore customer service. I got the product professionally installed by a plumbing service company that does install and service water softeners in our area. Prior to getting kenmore water softener, we had a water softener of a different brand that worked for more than eight years, that needed to be replaced. I read reviews on Amazon and opted to buy this product. Less than a month after installation, the water softener stopped working, the tank was full of water and water was being expelled through an opening in the back, making the basement wet.. We called the plumbing services and they informed me that the softener fill tube is bad and that needs to be replaced. As the tank is completely filling up and making the basement wet, the recommended closing the water supply. I reached out to Kenmore through Amazon while the plumber was troubleshooting. The plumber directly spoke to Kenmore service advisor and informed them that the fill tube is not working and needs to be replaced. I later got a series of emails from KENMore asking for information which I filled out. I got more emails asking for information such as pictures of the damaged part. I even sent the invoice given by the plumber from the time when they came and checked the fill tube. I send the pictures of the Brine tank and the fill tube area. After a month of back-and-forth, nothing has happened so far. I would give a zero for the product and also customer service. ... show more

This unit replaced the same model which was in use for 12 years. We live in a township and our water travels through the same pipes as the fire hydrants so wer plasedith it's passed performance. The new unit was plug and play to our original plumbing so no plumber was necessary. Hope this unit lasts another 12 years. ... show more

    • Terrible Dissapointment

I installed this unit as a "direct replacement" for one of the models listed in the description. It's not. The height of the outlet from the floor is 42.5 inches and not 41.5 inches as shown on the installation diagram. The 42.5 inches does not match the height of the older units either. So I had to modify my supply plumbing. A second deviation is the valve drain line connection - on my older model it was a "garden hose" style threaded connection. This model has a barb fitting for tubing which means it no longer integrates with my sanitary piping. So now I have to kludge something together. So much for a "direct replacement". Final comments are that the joint between the rotary valve and the top of the "resin tank" leaks, the siphon tube to the venturi assembly is so stiff that it cocks the venturi assembly and will not maintain the critical seal for the salt tank siphon to work - which means that the unit will not brine (and fill water remains in the salt tank). I loved my old sears/Kenmore unit - I've rebuilt is a couple of times over the two decades or more that I had it. The controller electronics failed an they are no longer available. But it was so good I purchased this unit thinking that Kenmore had its act together. Not with the unit that I got. Now I have to go through the hassle of uninstalling this 80 pound beast, draining it, scooping the salt out, getting it back into the box, and returning it to Amazon. Called Kenmore customer service and the lady I spoke with was nice and knew the product but she didn't have sufficient definitive guidance to help me fix it - it was more "try this / try that". I know you are looking at this unit to save money particularly with a DIY install that should have been easy, but I've wasted more than two days on this thing. Very disappointing. ... show more

Easy installation with one other persons help to move it into place. Connections are easy and took about an hour. Almost took longer to unbox it! It has been 4 weeks and it is working very well. Read the instructions first!

Good Morning, after the softener was installed I realized the light that is suppose to go on when you open the lid is not working. What am I suppose to do now who is responsible that this should be fixed that it shouldn't cost me because this was damaged to begin with. Thank You
