    • Perfect for My Rats—Still Their Favorite Spot After 6 Months!

I bought the "small" version of this hammock, and it fits my adult rats perfectly! While I didn’t use the hooks that came with it (couldn't figure them out initially—later realized instructions are on the Amazon product page), I secured it to the cage with zip ties, and it worked out great. Yes, the fluffy cushion insert does get destroyed quickly, but that’s just typical rat behavior and not a flaw in the product. My rats chewed a hole in it, repurposed the stuffing throughout the cage, and now actually sleep inside the cushion. I toss the cushion in the washing machine weekly, and it’s held up remarkably well even with a hole in it. Even six months later, it’s still their favorite place to nap. Summary: you’re better off going to a dollar store than getting this. I had the intention of using this with hooks in a multi tier cage so it hangs. I bought two of them for a friend and myself. They both came with different blankets. They’re cute but one was brown the other was blue. Neither of them came with hooks. I think that’s misleading calling this a “hammock hanging basket” the basket has the holes for it but no hooks to fasten it. For $20 this is a rip off for sure. You’re better off going to the dollar tree or 99 cent store getting a deep bowl and a small handkerchief. The quality of the basket definitely can be chewed through by a rat. I’d recommend putting a small piece of wood or something for them to chew on before they get ideas on the basket/blanket. I thought at $20 the basket was going to thicker/durable. Our rats LOVE these. We have two of these hanging baskets, though we tend to find all of our rats piling into one together. The lining that it comes with will not last very long as most rat owners are aware of so I was not expecting much from that. It is NOT chew proof as most rat owners should also be aware of. We usually put a little washable blanket in there for them and let them lounge. Great for pet rats. ... show more

The basket itself is easy to clean and the hooks are sturdy and appear secure. Not the easiest to get hung because the hooks twirl so easily. The bedding didn’t last even half a day. My 4 rats demolished it and tore out the stuffing. The little minky blanket that came with also won’t last, and will only make a mess so I haven’t given it to them. I’ll get some pieces of fleece to use instead. In retrospect, I probably should have gotten the large one, since really only 1-2 rats fit in the small. But at nearly $20 for just the small, I feel that is already too much for the basket. My rats just adore this basket, so comfy and nice. Very easy to set up, and it's very secure, holding good. It's cute design and the colour. I ordered the large size for two rats, just perfect!!!
