  • Great filter, but look out for the Plumbing
We just had our house and well constructed this year in Florida and moved into it in February. Iron Oxide became a serious problem. I had installed a smaller blue filter system seen in photos before moving in, but it overwhelmed it within 2 months. Our whites out of washing the machine was turning brown, a glass of water from other sinks was brown & smelled and shower floor after about 10 uses turned brown. Our first problem was sand. You can see the small sand filter which is a centrifuge design bought on Amazon and once a month we drain it. Works great as it was clogging up washing machine screen on the new Samsung washing machine and shutting it off. That was my reason to choose one filter that concentrated on Iron Oxide problem. Since the water lines, water heater and water pump holding tank had been in use for 7 month it took about 30 days to clear completely up. Iron Oxide has a metallic rust smell when taking a shower or drinking the water and stains badly as seen on the PUMP Tank & sand filter which was clear when first installed. Lowes has a chemical cleaner made just for iron Oxide that works very well on shower floor or toilet or side of house after a yard sprinkler wash. Hardest part was fitting pipe sizes which should be included with the filter & I had to purchase flexible lines separately. Took 3 trips to the Hardware to get everything compatible. Water pipes in PVC and flex lines are 3/4 and I think this was 1 inch with the connection at 1 inch and had to use a double threaded male to connect both. Water is now clean and it automatically back flushes. Was easy to program and very happy with the results after 10 weeks. If you have Iron Oxide problems or sand I recommend the filter system. Just be ready to make a couple of trips to your hardware store and take the filter parts with you to match up your connections. ... show more

  • The controller is sensitive to power dips and/or surges
The unit arrived in good shape. The manufacturer provided an online installation video which I followed during installation; this made installation a snap, easy peasy! The only issue I've had is that I live in the country and I've noticed the power grid out here in my neighborhood is noisy with occasional dips / surges in the voltage levels. This noise doesn't impact my other electronic equipment, my tv's, computers, appliances all take this noise in stride with no issues. But controller on my new water softener does not. In order to decide when a refresh cycle needs to be run this controller measures how many gallons of water have been used. The controller's display panel toggles between the time of day and a countdown of gallons left before the next recharge cycle. But apparently due to the noise on the power grid, the controller glitches and the number of gallons to-go resets back to start. In an attempt to solve this problem I have installed an uninterruptable power supply unit (UPS) and plugged the controller into that. So far so good but I haven't yet used a full measure of water to set off a recharge cycle. so we'll see. by the way, I added this review in hopes that Fleck will make a tweak to the controller to be more forgiving of power supply noise. ... show more

  • if you are like us and the flush valves in your toilets have ...
Last year we bought a house in a small city which sources its water from several natural wells. The iron content in our water is RIDICULOUS. It is RED. I'm not even sure how the city could even charge us for the water, its so full of iron. The house had a small under-powered water softener that was regenerating every few hours to keep up. Needless to say we had to do something. After literally weeks of research we ended up with the Iron Pro 2. The system shipped in several boxes. One contained the resin tank, one with the brine tank, several with the resin and one small box for the valve control/computer combo. The instructions were somewhat vague in some steps but with some common sense, they will help get the job done. IMPORTANT: you are going to need some experience with plumbing. If you are installing this system in a house that has never had a water softener, you will have to cut and sweat new copper pipes and fittings to bring your water supply to the new system. If you are replacing an old softener you may only have to modify your existing copper pipes in order to make them meet the height and distance of the new system. I used a combination of copper fittings and flexible pipe. Us a HIGH QUALITY NYLON TAPE on your threaded connections DON'T US THREAD COMPOUND or you will certainly have leaks. It may have something to do with the thread tolerance in the valve body. Anyways, after everything was set up we had crystal clear water running though the house and it has been that way since early March of this year (as long as we keep the proper amount of salt in the brine tank). The system provides us just under 800gal of soft clear water per regeneration cycle. We set it to regenerate at 3 a.m. each day. We can finally wash white clothes and take odor free showers. We can drink the water although we have a reverse osmosis filter for that because of concerns with sodium levels in softened water. PRO-TIP: During the regeneration cycle the system bypasses itself meaning that if you use ANYTHING that uses water in your house during regeneration, that water is NOT being treated. So, if you are like us and the flush valves in your toilets have a slow leak, unsoftened water will travel through your pipes. Check and repair any leaky sinks, showers, or toilets to avoid this. I can't put into words the significance of having clean usable water in your house. It was crazy stressful to have to throw away stained clothes or take smelly showers, or constantly bleach sinks and toilets. Now we only think about our water when we have to resupply the brine tank with salt. ... show more

  • Made a World of difference in the taste/smell of our well water
I ordered this on Aug 4th, it was delivered on the 6th and my husband and I installed it ourselves on the 7th! The shipping said it would take a little more than a week to get to me but it came in two days. I live in Florida so that may have something to do with it if it was shipped out of Fl. I originally was going to hire a plumber to install but after reading the instructions we decided to try it ourselves. It was super simple and easy to do. We had it up in running in about 3 hours. Ours was a simple install since we were replacing a 12 year old softener of the same brand but smaller and not digital. After the install, flushing and running a manual regeneration we had crystal clear great tasting water again. I only wish it had a cover like the old one to cover the control head since it is installed outside. ... show more
