I actually am really happy with this product! It does have some drawbacks hence my title. 1) the type of clean you get depends on how well you ran in front of the vacuum and picked up the floor 2) it does run into the same things consistently 3) it has missed spots and I have had to take it back to the spot to redo it 4) it takes about 3x longer than it would take me to do it 5) it gets easily hung up on some things ( example , cat toys ) However , unlike my ex husband: 1) it vacuums under the bed 2) it doesn’t complain when I point out the spots it missed 3 ) cat is way more entertained 4 ) it always empties the dirt in the trash 5) Will vacuum as frequently as I tell it to

As a professional software engineer specializing in Machine Learning for a quantitative hedge fund, and someone with hands-on academic experience in robotics, I had high expectations for the Roomba. Unfortunately, I find myself deeply disappointed in both the design and engineering quality of this product. Several critical engineering oversights undermine this device's basic functionality: Inefficient Cleaning Algorithms: The Roomba repeatedly prioritizes the same limited area each cleaning session. When its battery inevitably runs out mid-clean, it returns to the docking station, recharges, yet inexplicably fails to continue cleaning untouched areas afterward. This highlights a significant algorithmic oversight, likely caused by limited investment in robust navigation and path-planning algorithms. Poor Collision Avoidance: Despite possessing LIDAR sensors, the Roomba continuously bangs into furniture and cabinetry. From an engineering standpoint, it would be trivial physics and algorithmic logic to implement a proximity-based deceleration mechanism—slowing the motors before collision—thereby significantly enhancing the user experience and extending the lifespan of both the robot and household furnishings. This is a staple in our home. We have run this every night for a year and a half. Depending on level of suction, there are times it needs a re-charge before finished. That being said, it’s always done before we awake. Higher suction = louder noise. Nothing that’s bothersome or we can’t sleep through, including our toddler. Lower suction does a few run throughs before completing, thus the battery lasts longer. We use the higher suction mainly before a deep clean. It has kept our floors, rugs, foam playmats clean thus far, including picking up hair from our Labrador. Also has never malfunctioned with the constant button pushing of a toddler. I don’t recall set up, but anything compatible with Alexa is pretty easy. The only thing I wish is that it was a quarter of an inch shorter so it could clean under our couch! All-together, this a phenomenal product at its price point and we would not have survived the last 1.5 years without it.

My 1st was 3 years ago, still running very well, just need some part to take care. I buy 2 on Amazon Prime day with a very deal. The combo robot, vacuum + mob, running well, I live the mob combo. But another is the vacuum only, does not work as usual. The 1st problem is the spinning brush come off during clean. 2nd problem is the robot return home and charging, the robot status on app show that it off line, not connected to wifi. I try to reconnect it, but the problem remains. It must be manufactured defected. So, I decide to return it. But keep the combo. Will try to get different model when there is the good deal next time.

UPDATE: Okay it's the next day from when I wrote the review below. I tried a few more features before fully deciding if I should return it or not. I'm going to change my rating from 2 stars to 3 after realizing a few things. I am still going to return it because it doesn't align with my needs, but thought I should elaborate. Due to the lack of home mapping and short battery life, it does a terrible job in open floor plans or if doors to other rooms are left open. If you trap it in a bedroom or put barriers in smaller areas you want it to clean such as the entry way, hallway, kitchen, etc. it actually does a decent job. This requires a bit of effort though to move it from room to room and set up barriers in larger open areas. The whole point of having a robot vacuum is to reduce effort though, so this kind of defeats the purpose. It would probably be great for smaller spaces such as a dorm room or small studio apartment. If you give it too large of an area, it seems to wander aimlessly until the battery dies and it will have a hard time finding its way back to the dock to charge or empty. I tried it again in one of my rooms with a carpet, and changed the setting to "max suction" (it was previously on medium) and it actually did a pretty good job picking up pet hair this time, but keep in mind the battery will die quicker on this setting. Ok I was really excited for this and unfortunately I ended up being pretty disappointed. This is the first time I’ve ever tried out a robot vacuum. First of all, there is no home mapping. So it basically just wanders aimlessly around, forgetting areas it’s already cleaned, going over the same spot multiple times while leaving a mess in other areas. It will also just go into other rooms without finishing the room it was in. After trapping it in a single room it did actually do some vacuuming, but the suction is not very powerful and it missed a lot of spots. If you have carpets, this is not the one for you. There are carpets in my bedroom and it didn’t work well. It ended up leaving a lot of pet hair behind. The battery life is also disappointing and can't handle my small apartment without needing to charge multiple times. The video I attached is when the battery was low and it needed to return to its dock, but instead of returning to the dock it just decided to spin in circles. After using this once, I decided I need to return it. I felt like I had to babysit the vacuum, which takes more time and effort than just vacuuming myself. If you’re looking for an easy, time-saving robot vacuum I’d look elsewhere.

Update - I gave the Roomba the benefit of the doubt and I kept running it and cleaning its brushes as it got clogged every 10 minutes. This evening, I am running this POS in the same room along with my old Shark. This POS has stopped (needing its brushes to be cleaned) three times, as the Shark keeps motoring along on the same carpet, picking things up before the delicate Roomba gets there and fails. I bought the Roomba because I was tired of emptying the Shark's dustbin. I already threw out the packaging - otherwise, I would return the Roomba. This is my 4th robot vacuum and it is the worst. On the plus side, it is very quiet. However, whenever it runs into any obstacle, it stops and requires a human to push the Clean button on the top to resume. At first, I thought it's brushes were clogged. They were a bit furry - I have a dog. I cleaned them and sent it off. It kept dying under my bed. I thought that it's battery had an amazingly short life, but after several recharge-and-try-agains, I tried again, blocking off the places to get under my bed. It would get further around the room, but it would still die after a minutes. It would restart after I pushed the button, so the battery was fine. It just kept dying. Tonight, in the time that I have restarted the Roomba at least 7 times, the Shark downstairs has been cruising along without complaint.

I decided to replace my old Roomba as it was beginning to have some parts that pieces were breaking off. I was excited to get this one and ordered it on Prime Day in October at the sale price. It was one of several robot vacuums in my wish list since I had done lots of research and gone through lots of reviews. I had tried a combo vacuum/mop unit before and it was awful, but it was a different brand and did worse than this thing. Right out of the box it would not connect to Wi-Fi or Alexa. I had to perform a factory reset to get it to connect. You do that by holding down all three buttons on the top, simultaneously, for about 10 seconds until you hear a series of sounds. You are then required to let it charge for best results, so I let it charge almost 24 hours. The app never would show the “Product Health”, even after using the vacuum. I would only get the notice in the screenshot shown. I did use the app to start the first vacuuming. I felt I was off to a good start as the robot began vacuuming in the grid pattern as shown in the ad. Once that pattern led it into my living room, things changed dramatically, for the worse. It should be noted that I do not have a bunch of clutter. I lost my fur baby soulmate, but still have not removed his bed (seen in the movie). There is really not a lot of difficult navigation. I included the movie because it was at the start of the vacuuming, and I was pleased with the low noise level. It was less noisy than my old one at least. Once in the living room, it got stuck under the chair. I got it unstuck and restarted it. It was not 45 seconds later, and it got stuck in the exact same place. It actually had to force its way into the location that it kept getting stuck in. I got it free and completely moved it to a different area. It wasn’t long and it returned, but this time I moved it again before it got stuck. Then it would go into an area by my dog’s bed and would just stay in that area, going to and fro as if stuck in a large box. It would spin, it would go backwards, it would go forwards, and it would spin some more. I thought perhaps it was due to the small AC/Heat vent in the floor, so I covered that vent with the dog’s bed. But this was to no avail. It was bound and determined to stay in that 3x3 feet area. I moved it again. It stayed in the room that it started in (adjacent to my living room where it kept getting stuck) for a few minutes and then came back into the living room. This was an hour and 14 minutes, it did less than 400 square feet of vacuuming, and I used the app to send it home to its base. It picked up some dirt (shown). I liked the size of the dirt bin and the ease of emptying it. The noise level and the size of the dirt bin were the only things I liked about this Roomba. I realize that it is on the cheaper end of the scale for a Roomba, but I expected more! I returned this vacuum. I will wait until Prime Days for Christmas and order something different, and probably not a Roomba!

We wore our first iRobot after ~8 years and I was amazed at the advances since we bought our first one. This ONE is SMART! We can manage it from our phones. After receipt, I assembled and and charged it, the followed the very clear instructions. When I started “Hazel” the first time, she mapped the entire house then returned to her dock. Since then she has been brilliant! - She will advise me if her bin needs to be emptied. - She will return to her dock to recharge (if needed), then pickup where she left off. - She also lets us select a specific room/area to be vaccumed. And to top it off she advises use when she’s charged and ready to go again! A great house keeper!
