This is a staple in our home. We have run this every night for a year and a half. Depending on level of suction, there are times it needs a re-charge before finished. That being said, it’s always done before we awake. Higher suction = louder noise. Nothing that’s bothersome or we can’t sleep through, including our toddler. Lower suction does a few run throughs before completing, thus the battery lasts longer. We use the higher suction mainly before a deep clean. It has kept our floors, rugs, foam playmats clean thus far, including picking up hair from our Labrador. Also has never malfunctioned with the constant button pushing of a toddler. I don’t recall set up, but anything compatible with Alexa is pretty easy. The only thing I wish is that it was a quarter of an inch shorter so it could clean under our couch! All-together, this a phenomenal product at its price point and we would not have survived the last 1.5 years without it. ... show more

  • Roomba: A Case Study in Engineering Neglect and MBA-Driven Mismanagement
Style: Roomba Q052 Auto Empty Amazon Exclusive
As a professional software engineer specializing in Machine Learning for a quantitative hedge fund, and someone with hands-on academic experience in robotics, I had high expectations for the Roomba. Unfortunately, I find myself deeply disappointed in both the design and engineering quality of this product. Several critical engineering oversights undermine this device's basic functionality: Inefficient Cleaning Algorithms: The Roomba repeatedly prioritizes the same limited area each cleaning session. When its battery inevitably runs out mid-clean, it returns to the docking station, recharges, yet inexplicably fails to continue cleaning untouched areas afterward. This highlights a significant algorithmic oversight, likely caused by limited investment in robust navigation and path-planning algorithms. Poor Collision Avoidance: Despite possessing LIDAR sensors, the Roomba continuously bangs into furniture and cabinetry. From an engineering standpoint, it would be trivial physics and algorithmic logic to implement a proximity-based deceleration mechanism—slowing the motors before collision—thereby significantly enhancing the user experience and extending the lifespan of both the robot and household furnishings. Basic Obstacles Ignored: Shockingly, the Roomba frequently gets stuck on standard household door saddles, a common threshold in nearly every home. Tackling this issue would be among the first considerations in post-MVP (minimum viable product) development. Its persistent existence strongly suggests a lack of practical user testing or product-focused engineering diligence. My impression is that the root cause of these glaring shortcomings stems from deeply flawed management and resource allocation. Amazon’s likely acquisition of Roomba seems indicative of a troubling industry trend: prioritizing cost-cutting over investing in competent engineering teams. The product feels as though its development team suffers from: Budgetary Neglect: Insufficient funding to attract and retain genuinely talented robotics and software engineers, forcing reliance on minimal viable iterations without refinement. "Leetcode" Hiring Culture: Prioritization of engineers who excel at contrived algorithm puzzles (e.g., Leetcode) rather than those who understand real-world product engineering, usability, and user experience. MBA-led Mismanagement: Excessive influence from MBAs emphasizing immediate profitability and cost reduction, resulting in compromised product quality and innovation stagnation. This ideology will effect the longevity of the product. For the above reasons, I have decided to return my Roomba. I strongly discourage prospective buyers from purchasing this poorly-engineered product. I advise investing in alternative robotic vacuum brands committed to rigorous engineering standards, proper user-centric testing, and genuinely capable, product-driven engineering talent. ... show more

  • love the robot vacuum, but got a defected this time
Style: Roomba Q011 Amazon Exclusive
My 1st was 3 years ago, still running very well, just need some part to take care. I buy 2 on Amazon Prime day with a very deal. The combo robot, vacuum + mob, running well, I live the mob combo. But another is the vacuum only, does not work as usual. The 1st problem is the spinning brush come off during clean. 2nd problem is the robot return home and charging, the robot status on app show that it off line, not connected to wifi. I try to reconnect it, but the problem remains. It must be manufactured defected. So, I decide to return it. But keep the combo. Will try to get different model when there is the good deal next time. ... show more

  • This model picks up the dirt and dust that my sweeping misses
Style: Roomba Q011 Amazon Exclusive
The new design picks up more dirt than previously. This model is easy to clean the brush and the dirt pan. cat hair has no chance of hiding.

  • Good cleaner, but ruins carpet
Style: Roomba Q011 Amazon Exclusive
I purchased this Roomba Vac Essential in March 2025 and run it daily on medium-pile carpet. Setup was easy, and cleaning performance is generally solid — it picks up most dirt and pet hair, though I still need to run a manual vacuum for stray clumps of cat hair. One thing I appreciate is the neat, uniform vacuum lines, which is why I replaced my older robot vacuum (that one cleaned well but left random, chaotic patterns). Unfortunately, this model has a serious flaw. It gets stuck in about 3 out of every 5 cleanings, and in 2 of those cases it spins in place, leaving stubborn black marks from the wheel on my carpet. These stains are impossible to remove — I’ve tried multiple cleaners and even steam cleaning without success. At this point, I’ll likely need to replace my carpet entirely, not because of my geriatric cats, but because of the robot vacuum’s wheel damage. If you have carpet you care about, especially lighter or medium tones, I cannot recommend this model. On hard floors, it might be fine, but on carpet it’s a costly risk. ... show more

  • Don't buy
Style: Roomba Q052 Auto Empty Amazon Exclusive
To say I hate this thing would be an understatement. I have a rug that I laid down in my front room and it doesn't know how to deal with it. Will drive on it and go in circles for 45 min and run out of battery without doing the rest of the house. Less than 5 percent of the time does it actually finish a job without getting stuck. It falls off ledges constantly, gets lost, or traps itself under the counter. It's literally the dumbest vacuum I've ever owned. It will eat everything on the floor except for actual dirt. A sock? Jams it right in and gets stuck. Piece of cat food? Throws that across the kitchen and then never picks it up. Pay a little more for a better product. Do NOT buy this ... show more
