I never knew I needed one of these guys...

I thought this was an extravagant luxury and I thought it was too bougie for me to have one. My friend suggested I get one so I tried it. We have a huge tile floor section of our house, it's about 85% tile. My wife and I run the dust mop and a wet mop about a few times a month. It takes us a good half day to get it knocked out. Since using the robot, we have cut that in half. I was never aware of how much dust and hair be both shed in this house. I thought we had a Labrador living with us. I found this out after the first robot sweep. I dusted off the machine flipped it over and saw all of the cars stuck to the axels. I cleaned it all off and dusted the machine. I examined the contents of the vacuum bag, and was shocked by the amount of dust and hair it found. Each subsequent sweep by the robot turned up less and less, so the maintenance provided by the robot is noticeable. Our house is about 2,000 sq feet, so the robot does about half of the house and then returns to base to recharge, and then when it is charged, it will finish. I wish it could last the entire time on 1 charge, but it's not that big of a deal. Removing the cords and shoes from laying around in the path of the robot, makes foe a cleaner house, but sometimes annoys me. I keep the robot well cared for. After each session, I flip to over and check the undercarriage to make sure there is nothing clogging the axels and I dust it off. The app is pretty cool, this model takes photos of stuff in its way so you can move it, or change the path of the robot. The app is pretty easy to interface with, you don't need to be a NASA engineer to use it. I did buy a spare parts kit for rollers and brushes and on board filters (I guess that's hoe they get you to buy more stuff of it) but I assume at some point I will be taking this robot apart to replace the rollers and brushes at some point. Overall, I am happy I bought it, I never realized how much dust was under the couches and the beds. The hair, my god, my wife sheds!!! So this machine was well worth it. It did cost a few bucks, But I waited for a prime sale, and I made sure to do my research and read the reviews and watched the YouTube reviews as well. Good luck with your purchase.. ... show more

I have had the iRobot Roomba j6+ for just over two months. I was waiting to write a review until I have had enough time to see how well it works. I am not sure why everyone thinks the robot is great. Within the first 2 weeks, I just wanted to return it, because it was not performing like I wanted. But I thought it would get better as it learned more. Nope, I am very disappointed with it. First the iRobot Roomba j6+ does not have LIDAR. So, it just bumps into things until it maps out your house. Even my granddaughter is asking why it runs into walls. iRobot needs to add LIDAR, so give it some eyes please. Once the house is mapped it does ok at best. You tell it to go clean a room, it does go there 99.9% of the time. Some days it seems confused. It does have some difficulty driving over the carpet thresholds. The instructions state you should have house lights on so it can navigate better. Well, sometimes, I need to vacuum an area and it dark. So, I have to turn the lights on. See, it needs LIDAR. It is horrible at navigating around objects. It seems to miss cords ok, but it does not navigate around cats toys, kids toys, or Christmas ornaments. Yes, it destroyed an ornament. Troubleshooting faults can be difficult. The robot will tell you there is a fault, you go to fix it, but it does not fix it. So, you just have to try other things until the fault clears. It is always getting stuck. It tends to pile up bathroom rugs instead of going over them. It also knocked down a broom and pinned itself a room. Bottom-line, the robot is ok at best. Is it worth the money, absolutely not. I got mine on sale. I would never buy again or buy it if I knew how bad it navigates. Also, I will not buy another iRobot until they add a better navigation system. My 10 year old Neato performs better than the iRobot. Back to the LIDAR, I did not do my research well enough and I thought all iRobot’s had LIDAR. Now I realize that none of the iRobots have LIDAR, unless I misread it. That is huge issue for me. A robot needs some way of seeing. Imagine closing your eyes and walking through your house with your eyes closed. That is what the iRobot does. It does seem to vacuum fairly well. So that is a plus. In the end, this robot is not for me. I expect a lot from these robots and this one was disappointing. I will try the Roborock next. ... show more

2 years and going strong

I have owned this Roomba for two years now and it has been fantastic. I have had older, non-self-cleaning models before, and this is miles better. It has travelled with my family (2 kids, 2 cats) through 4 different houses in the last year due to a remodel- even for a short stay, I refused to leave it behind! I feel like it is a member of the family. I talk to it, care for it lovingly, and thank it daily! Mapping- works great, no issues. It takes a long time but rarely needs to be done (only when in a new space) Cleaning- works great. Not completely as good as a hands on vacuuming, of course, but it does what it is supposed to do, time and time again. Avoiding cords, etc- works great, no issues. Manages both carpets and hardwoods without issue. Thin rugs/doormats in one of our houses did get sucked up, but thicker rugs were fine. Self emptying function/tower- this function is 50-70%% of why I love this vacuum so much. It works AMAZINGLY well and changing out the bag when full is WAY better than emptying the canister on a non-self-cleaning model- and has to be done so infrequently. App- Generally speaking I dislike appliance apps. However, this app works GREAT and the integrated maintenance monitoring and parts purchasing works incredibly well. I am delighted with the app. Maintenance- all the parts remove and clean easily and I actually enjoy keeping it in good shape. Maintenance is important- it only takes 10-20minutes every month or so to keep it in good working condition. My only wish would be for longer battery life. If I want to clean a several-room space with the double-clean function (which I nearly always select) it has to recharge during the job. It doesn't affect us when we do it if we're out of the house, but is a little annoying if we have to clean in the evening/night. Seems App issues are resolved (holding my breath) after 2 weeks of extensive phone calls and emails.

Revised: Seems CS finally got its act together and got app issues fixed, hopefully. This should have never happened, a customer should not have had to spend the exhaustive time on phone calls, taking pics of iRobot & many emails for their stuff to work! When you spend $$$$ it should work, no excuses. What's up with this company. Bought an I series 2 weeks ago and it never worked, sent back. Upgraded to a J7 and the app does not work. CS truly is not interested in getting to the root cause, after many phone calls and emails they suggested I buy a $300 Hot Spot (even sent me a pic of which one to buy) and then "maybe" it will work. My daughter bought the J7 2 days after I did and the app does not work on hers either. She has an I-phone, I have a Samsung, so it is not a phone issue and not a router/internet issue. With the time spent cleaning and maintaining this thing I'd rather just use a regular vacuum

This is the most annoying device I've owned, even the original non-smart Roomba I had operated better (though its problem was that it would get in a loop just cleaning the same area repeatedly at the expense of EVERY other area in the house). My main problem with this device is that it worked great for about two weeks and then it started erring out quite literally every single cycle. I am running it on a hardwood flooring. It regularly gets jammed (probably 70% of the time), needs to have its sensors cleaned (20% of the time), or gets stuck on the base of bar-style chairs (10% of the time) no matter how far apart I distance the things or put them together. Even when it vacuums things up, once it returns to its base there's a 30% chance it's going to get jammed when emptying it out. I cannot recall the last time I was able to run a complete cycle and it *didn't* pick something up. Secondary problem is that realistically it just is not a good vacuum - there is always noticeable motes of dirt, pieces of cat fur, etc. just hanging out on the floor. The vacuum does pick stuff up (or at least I think it does, the collection bin is dirty), I just don't get why it's not picking up *everything*. The base cleaning is also extremely loud, and in some cases when a jam occurs it will cycle the suction several, loud, obnoxious times. Maybe not the worst when you run it while away from home, but not great when trying to relax, and *especially* not great if you want to run it at nighttime when people are sleeping. The app has no option to make a cycle that postpones the self-cleaning function, so the only way to disable that is to unplug the base. Anyway realistically save yourself the hassle, save your money and just stick to regular brooms or vacuums. It'll save you stress in the long run. ... show more

My home consists of two adults, one large dog, and a cat. I like to use this vacuum about 2 to 3 times per week. I have it situated on our first floor, which consists of hardwoods, tiles, and area rugs. I have not set up the app yet for automatic cleaning, but the vacuum is able to perform without it. It sits on its base underneath a cabinet in my living room. One press will set it on a course to clean the entire first floor. It vacuums in a gridlike pattern, so it covers all areas. It’s even slim enough to fit underneath my sofa. It does -on occasion -get tripped up on some of our mats, so I do need to go through the house before setting it to clean to pick up any dog toys, remove obstacles, and ensure that the vacuum has an easy path to clean. I’ve had it for about a month, and I have not had to clean the dust trap yet. It is slightly louder than vacuums I’ve had in the past, and when it empties into the dustbin, it makes a very loud noise. Because of this, I cannot set it on a clean cycle in the middle of the night because it will 100% wake me up out of a sound sleep. It’s able to clean my entire first floor without needing to recharge in between, but it’s intelligent enough that if it does need to recharge, it will just go back to the base, recharge, empty the bin, and return to where it left off once all of that is completed. TLDR: It’s very easy to set up and use. It does a great job for routine floor cleaning. It’s very low maintenance because you don’t need to empty the dustbin very frequently. Too many errors...,

Having owned this for over 3 years, I don't totally regret the purchase but have come to realize it's numerous flaws. Three first few months were smooth and there was noticeably less dust and pet hair in our house then before we had a robovac. Then the problems started... Things getting caught easily in the brushes, vacuum getting stuck in random places, and most infuriatingly, unable to dock itself leaving it unable to start the next cycle due being out of battery. I'm now at the point where every week I'm having to manually intervene to fix an error and it's gotten to the point where its more efficient too vacuum on my own. ... show more
