I had an older model irobot I belive 900 series bought in 2017. Anyway there's really only a few differences which I'm happy about but a little bummed bc I expected I bigger leap of improvement. 1000% love the self emptying!! And I can not express this enough. My old one did not have this feature and if ran while I wasn't home and the bin got full it wasn't able to finish the whole job. Now this is not a problem. Plus after awhile I just got lazy or forgot to empty the bin so it wouldn't run on its schedule. Now not an issue. This new device is way quieter! It's still noisy but compared to the older model 100% better. I've only done the mop setting once and I wanst particularly impressed with it. I've only done it once due to having a large rug in my living room and the robot just wants to get up on it and I don't have the barriers purchased to keep it off. But I have epoxy concrete floors and I just didn't care for the mop job it did. It says for a wetter mop to wet the pad first but I was just giving it a try out and decided to not wet it first and the wet spots left on the floor were not solid, just like some little lines of wetness. Overall it gets my floors vacuumed for me when I have other things to do so I would say it works well. I have about 1500sf of space it has to get just in the main living and kitchen area. It does need to charge before finishing all of it. It does seem to go over some areas multiple times for no reason and it gets stuck under my coffee table every single time it runs. So I'm not sure if the smart part about it works on this one lol.

I just wrote a review for another robot vacuum you can see on my profile. This Roomba was a replacement for that other one that I wasn't a big fan of. I figured, fine, I will drop the money for the big name. It will do great. Boy was I wrong. This thing was a nightmare. It has tortured us for the last week. It is now back in its box ready to go the return drop off, and yet a third robot vacuum just arrived to replace it - we shall see. I am on an unintended journey of robot vacuums. But, back to this one. I knew it should have been a bad sign when, after initial setup and charging, the first mapping run (which took almost two hours and produced a lot of noise and irritation since we were home during) didn't produce a map. Like, what? So I reran it the next day and it finally made a map. Great. I finally got a chance to let it clean, then, after several days of mucking with the map stuff. And it completely ignored the map. It went into areas not on the map. It skipped whole parts of the mapped area despite them being included in the job. It would do half the job and go home and proclaim proudly via notification that it had "saved me a trip to the bin" as it emptied itself - and decided it was done for the day. I would have to restart the job, only to have it try and jam itself into an accidentally open closet door - an area it shouldn't go anyway, because it is not on the map - and I'd have to rescue it. One day it actually followed my wife into the guest bedroom that is rarely used and so not on the cleaning plan for the robot - she had earbuds in so she didn't hear it. It snuck in behind her in the minute or two she had the door open. We found it later, jammed under the guest bed frame, gunning its little engine trying to get more jammed as we watched. Wow. Besides just utterly disregarding its own map and my cleaning orders, this robot demonstrated none of the features that it claimed to have. Obstacle avoidance? It would, every time, seek out obstacles like dog toys, shoes, the dogs themselves, and run into them. Unlike my previous vacuum, that would just bump its way around obstacles, this one would freeze in confusion, and seemingly forget where it had meant to go. It would turn around and wander back to places already cleaned. Cord avoidance? It actually seemed to enjoy shoving itself under my credenza / TV stand and eating the small IR repeater wires. I had to re-do those multiple times. Finally, I made a new "room" that included that corner of the larger family room. I would specifically NOT include that area in jobs going forward. But, as it didn't care about my cleaning wishes nor its own map, it would go under anyway and entangle itself, again, for fun I think. Dirt event mapping? This feature purports to highlight areas of extra dirt so it can focus on it. We have three pets and so there are definitely, undoubtedly areas of extra dirt in the house. Under the bed in the carpeted bedroom, for example. But after a week of use it never once called out a "dirt event". Bizarre. I will stop there. In the end, this was just a disaster of an experience. We got so much more consternation and frustration out of wrangling this robot and fixing stuff behind it, all the while with it failing to even vacuum what we wanted, than if we had just vacuumed ourself. Isn't the future marvelous?? I was tempted to try and get back my old vacuum - but I gave it to my dad and I am not like that. He's happy with it in his pet-less home. Now, instead, I am trying a third brand. Wish me luck.

I love this machine! I bought it in 2023 for my vacation house and use it at least 6 months out of the year. It is still doing a great job and I love the mop feature. I recently discovered the cleaning solution Encore and am using it in the robot and my floors look great. This is one purchase that I am still loving. It has surely made my life easier. I prefer running it when I am out of the house as it is noisy and annoying to avoid if I am cooking or just being in the house, but now I run it on my way out the door and going to be out for a few hours. It is so nice to come back to freshly vacuumed floors or especially to shiny freshly mopped floors. I listened to it tonight mopping and watched it find especially grungy spots and it paused and really worked on those places. I have vinyl floors, which I hated previously because of the non-slip grooves that held dirt and looked dull. But now that I am using the Encore cleaner in my robot, they reflect the light. Very happy. Worth the splurge because I love a clean house but don't like cleaning.

Bottom Line Up Front: The vacuum cleans well, but the software is ROUGH. I would not recommend for large or complicated floor plans. If you keep it confined to one room (with physical barriers) it would probably work okay. This is not the first robotic vacuum that I've had and not the first Roomba. My experience with the other vacuums led me to believe that any vacuum would have trouble with a complicated floor plan, but after reading about the Smart Mapping feature of this robot (and the ability to name rooms and send the robot to a specific room), I decided to give the Roomba i5+ a try. Assembling the robot was relatively easy. The base is pretty large (and not very pretty) and we had a little trouble finding a good place to set it, but we settled on an interior room in the center of our house. After letting the battery fully charge, we sent the robot out on a mapping run. 9 hours later, the mapping run failed. The next day, we sent it on another mapping run. This time the run failed after 7 hours. At this point, we gave up on mapping and just said "clean everything". This run was mostly successful, but still took about 7 hours to complete. (I should state that our house is an old farm house. The ground floor is about 1800 square feet and there are a few rooms with multiple doorways). The floors were noticeably cleaner after running, so the cleaning power is good. Also, the self-emptying worked great -- even without a successful mapping run, the Roomba was able to find its way back to base and charge and empty. A few days later, we tried another mapping run and this time after about 4 hours, the run was successful. We finally had a Smart Map. We went through and named rooms, then sent the robot to clean a particular room. From this point on, there were zero runs in the "History" section of the app that were successful. In many cases, the robot completed a run, but did not log anything in the history section, so I can't see what it really did. In other cases, the robot failed its run. Overall, I like the concept, and the cleaning power is good. But I feel like I'm doing way too much work to get this thing working -- this was supposed to save me time, but it would have been faster and better to vacuum by hand. UPDATE: Lowering the rating to 1 star. I have owned this robot now for 3 full months and it has only ever successfully ran a scheduled "mission" twice. I spend more time troubleshooting this robot than it would take to vacuum my house in a given week.

The robot worked decently well for a little over a year. Getting it set up to mop was a bit of a pain and it didn't do a great job with it, but the regular vacuum function did a good job of keep our floors clear between regular cleaning. After that year it just stopped working. It would begin a "mission", back off the stand, spin around in place for a bit, then stop and give an error message. We tried all the potential fixes suggested by iRobot's support chat, but nothing seemed to help. Got on a chat with a support person and they walked me through a few more steps to try but we couldn't get it fixed. Despite the warranty being expired the support person was able to offer me a replacement. Even more impressive, the support person said they were out of i5+'s so they offered an upgrade free of charge. This model was fine and it broke down surprisingly quickly, but I'll keep going back to iRobot with customer service like that.

When it works, it does a decent job. I notice when it is "done". It is slim enough to go under furniture, and into spots I cannot easily reach. Again, when it works. We have a Belgian Malinois. She is a hair dropper. With most of the Floors LVF, the hair is seen and blows around. If you keep up with the hair, it is manageable. This is where this Robot Vacuum was supposed to excel. My dream was for it to run daily, at a set time, do it's thing, empty itself, and continue the next day. Sure, I expected the Bag to get full here and there, but it should be easy. This thing works like an office printer...every time it is asked to do it's job, there is an error or problem. 1-The spinning sweeper gets caught in the "bumper" and does not spin 2-"Emptying the Bin" does not work. I hear it trying, but in 8 months, the bag is not full. 3-I have to manually empty the tiny Bin on the Robot.....constantly. Many times, the hair jams under the Rubber cleaning wheels, and never even makes it into the tiny bin. 4-I do not dare try the "wet mop" feature 5-When transitioning between the LVP and area carpets, it lets a line of hair along the edge 6-When cleaning the Carpets, it clumps up the hair as it drives it along, and I go around picking up little piles of hair. 7-The app is helpless. The machine decides it has a problem, and you must decipher what the issue is. The App should be able to say what is wrong, and how to fix it. I have googled and tinkered to clean "sensors", debris lines, ensuring things were properly snapped together, bent and get more frustrated with each attempt. Maybe the Dog Hair is too much for it, but that is why I researched and purchased this style of Robot Vacuum. Our last Robot Vacuum was a horse. No thrills, no frills and grabbed debris until it could hold no more. The motor started to get noisy and thought purchasing an "upgrade" would make day-to-day cleaning easier.

I wanted to love this Roomba, and there are a few things it does really well. I like that I can set up a schedule through the app on my phone, and the cats are endlessly entertained by watching it scoot around. It’s also pretty clever at mapping out the room and navigating around objects on its own, and I appreciate that it empties itself so I don’t have to deal with that part as often. Unfortunately, the downsides have outweighed the conveniences for me. It doesn’t vacuum the whole floor, and even on the spots it does cover, it leaves a surprising amount of debris behind. The little spinning brush on the bottom gets stuck constantly, which makes it more frustrating than helpful. I often end up pulling out my regular vacuum to get the job done properly, which defeats the purpose of having a robot vacuum in the first place. Because of that, I rarely use it. In short: it’s fun for the cats, but not reliable enough for me.
