My original Roomba was manufactured 6 04 2001 and yes, it still works. A very early product. It is noisy, a tad rattly and gets hung up all too often. There were years when I didn’t use it, but I’ve been using it pretty often every day for the last six months or so. Because of the afore mentioned two problems I decided to purchase a new one during Prime Days. I got a low end Roomba, it isn’t self cleaning, but it does the job. I love the mapping and that I can see where it goes and where it’s been and how to find it if it gets stuck (very rare and always because of cords), which isn’t as often as the pretty old original Roomba. In fact, it usually extracts itself from its problems and keeps on going. My only problem with it is basically one problem. It is very slow charging seems to me and that charge doesn’t even get me through an entire room, when the power level reaches 28%~38% it heads home. Now that’s nice, but it doesn’t seem to be able to complete an entire room in my house without the need to recharge. Once charged it does finishs the job. Would I buy it again? Yes and as noted that once it is recharged it heads out on its own to finish the job. My old roomba took a very random approach to cleaning, seldom made it home, but still picked up as much dirt and maybe more than the new one which touts 70% more suction. Compared to ? Still I love the new mapping tech and would recommend it. I do hope that somehow, miraculously, over time the battery charge will improve.     • Garbage and constantly malfunctioning
This is one of the worst purchases I have ever made. I have had a Roomba of some type for a decade. My last roomba lived for six years without incident. They no longer make that model so I was forced to get this one. I have had nothing but problems. The first one I was sent never functioned correctly. Every time I try to set it up I received an error code. I had to send it back to the company for a replacement. My replacement roomba functions but barely. Once every few weeks there’s some kind of error where is completely disconnects from the app and I have to reset it and have it re map my home. Seriously - this has happened multiple times in the few Months I’ve owned it. It frequently needs to be reset for other software malfunctions. STAY AWAY. I will do more research and buy from another company when I purchase a robot vacuum again. I am so disheartened because I love the first two roombas I purchased. ... show more

The Roomba 105X has been a total lifesaver for me as both a pet mom and a boy mom, keeping up with fur, crumbs, and constant daily messes. Its suction picks up everything without needing multiple passes, and the mapping helps it avoid toys, shoes, and whatever else gets left on the floor. I love that I can control it through the app while I’m working or cooking, and it always returns to the dock to recharge on its own.     • Going in the garbage
This worked OK the first two or three times but now it is completely unreliable. Constantly needs attention. Can't figure out what room it's in stops what it's doing and tells you to put it back on the base. Constantly needs rebooting including hard resets. This thing is going in the garbage.

    • Outsold and outmarketed, but undefeated
iRobot is no longer the most popular, glamorous, or high-tech vacuum company on the market, but its products are still arguably the most simple and effective. If you're going to spend $1000, you're better off with a super high-end model from a different brand, but if you want the best budget vacuum on the market, you've come to the right place. The 105X is small, simple, and cleans like a demon. It navigates with precision, works its way diligently into every corner and crevice of your house, and quite simply cleans better than any other vacuum in this price range. Benefits: 1. Small footprint 2. Easy to empty and service, with modular construction. No need to unscrew parts or fiddle with levers, etc. 3. Excellent app. The Roomba Home app isn't as glitzy as some of its competitors, but it is far more intuitive, clean, and simple to use, with all of the functionality you need. You can schedule cleanings for certain times of day on specific days of the week, while also choosing how each room is specifically cleaned (suction strength, number of passes, etc) 4. Excellent maneuverability and cornering. Unlike some other brands, the Roomba pivots in place rather than making wide turns, which means that it cleans much more effectively. I've run it head to head against other brands and it has never been beat. Drawbacks: 1. if your house is massive and set up like a maze, this is not the right choice for you. The mapping software is good, but limited. I tried to set this Roomba up at a very large and complicated gym, with tons of equipment to navigate around, and the mapping process simply failed. The robot would eventually lose track of where it was and it could never find its home base. Again, though, this is only a problem if you have a house the size of a mansion, in which case you should probably be spending more on a robot vacuum. 2. You're going to need to empty the dustbin fairly regularly. Especially if you have pets, or people in your house with long hair, etc. For best results, run the vacuum frequently so that it doesn't have to deal with a lot of hair and dust buildup on any single run, and clean out the bin at least once a week, maybe more. (It's still much easier than actually vacuuming yourself.) 3. If you don't purchase the auto empty dock, cleaning out the dustbin isn't as easy as it should be. The robot intentionally docks itself with the dustbin facing away, so that it can be emptied automatically, but that makes it difficult to reach. You have to physically move the robot in order to access the dust bin. Not a problem if you buy the dock, and it really isn't a problem anyway, because once you're done, you can just hit the home button and the robot will redock itsel. First world problems, but if the robot is in a tough to reach location, this can be a hassle. 4. Object-avoidance is lacking. It won't bump its way around your house thanks to the LIDAR system, but if you move furniture or leave cords lying around, it can get confused or tangled. Ultimately, whether you should buy Roomba comes down to what you're looking for. After a couple months with my Roomba, I figured I would "upgrade" to a RoboRock. It has better mapping and better object avoidance/LiDAR, it's more attractive (though much larger and more cumbersome)... but it couldn't clean worth a damn. I would run it five times in a row around the litter box and it couldn't handle corners, and couldn't pick up the bulk of the scattered litter. Yet literally one single pass with the Roomba cleaned everything. Don't be fooled, stick with the most experienced and reliable brand on the market. ... show more

    • Deep cleans like my Shark
A surprisingly good cleaner. I have paid a great deal more for less effective cleaners. The mapping is great and extremely useful as I can select which room to clean, so it is not under foot when I am working. It surprised me when it returned to charge before it finished. However, after charging it continued where it left off. I was shocked at the amount of fur it cleaned up, on wood, tile and carpet. For my needs this is an excellent device. A longer battery life would make this device perfect. Great value for the money. ... show more

I bought a refurbished Roomba (650 series) about 5 years and I love it. It runs for about 55 minutes and cleans very well. This new Roomba cleans well and is a lot quieter but it is taller than my original Roomba and it doesn’t fit under my TV stand in the living room and it only runs for about 20 minutes. I keep this new Roomba in my bedroom since it doesn’t run long and can only do a small room. My original Roomba does the rest of my rooms. This Roomba is only good for a small room. I wish the fully charged battery lasted longer than 20 minutes on this new Roomba. ... show more

    • Simple, cheap and effective
Upgraded from a much older and heavier, Roomba… The old style used small battery operated laser style boundary devices to keep the robot out of certain rooms… This new one uses a map layout and allows you to block sections or entire rooms from the robot through the app… The old robot was unable to go from hardwood to carpet and quite often got stuck on the rails of metal legged chairs until it just gave up and through an error… this new robot will get to the carpet and if it has any issues will actually back up and I can only describe it as throw itself forward up to the carpet… it does the same to the metal chair legs… If it seems to be stuck for a few seconds, it will back up and rapidly propel itself forward until it is over the legs… It will do the entire first floor of my home which consists of three rooms, one is carpeted, on a single charge. Absolutely a good value and if I needed another, would buy a second. ... show more
