  • Smart, Powerful, and Takes Care of Itself!
Color: Roomba 105x Combo Ae Black
I have always loved iRobot products! I’m kind of obsessed with robot vacuums, smart home gadgets, home automation, and all of that technology. There’s just something so satisfying about watching a robot map your house, clean your floors, and save you hours of work while you focus on literally anything else! I love anything that can automate household chores and make life easier, so I was beyond excited to try the Roomba 105X Combo. With two dogs constantly leaving behind fur, tracking in dirt and mystery debris they somehow find in the backyard, my floors never seem to stay clean for long. I find myself vacuuming far more often than I want to, so having a robot vacuum that can handle daily maintenance has been a huge help. The suction power is impressive! It does an amazing job picking up fur, dirt, crumbs, and all the little surprises that somehow end up on the floor every day. The Smart LiDAR mapping is one of the coolest features! The LiDAR mapping creates an actual map of your home instead of wandering around randomly. It quickly learned the layout of my home and navigates around furniture far better than older robot vacuums I’ve used. Through the app, I can customize cleaning schedules, send it to specific rooms, and monitor cleaning progress from my phone. ✨ What I loved: ✔ Vacuums AND mops in one machine ✔ Self-emptying dock for 75 days ✔ Smart LiDAR mapping learns your home quickly ✔ Easy scheduling through the app ✔ App and voice control ✔ Navigates around furniture with ease ✔ Great for homes with pets ✔ Saves a ridiculous amount of time 💭 My experience: The self-emptying dock might be my favorite feature! Not having to constantly empty the dustbin makes the whole experience much more hands-off. I can schedule cleanings through the app and basically let the Roomba do its thing. I really love being able to schedule cleanings while I’m working! I work from home, so being able to send the Roomba out to vacuum and mop while I take calls feels like having an extra set of hands. It’s extra convenient on busy days when I know I won’t have time to clean myself. I expected the vacuum to do well because iRobot has always been one of my favorite brands in the robot vacuum space, but I wasn't expecting the mop to be as great as it was. It does an excellent job keeping my hard floors clean and helps pick up paw prints, dust, and debris that seems to always magically appear. The app setup was straightforward too. It quickly walked me through everything and had the vacuum mapping my home in no time. This is exactly the kind of product I get excited about! It saves time, keeps my floors clean, and takes one more chore off my plate. If you have pets, kids, or just want a smarter/faster way to clean your home, this Roomba is definitely worth it! It will quickly become part of your routine and you’ll wonder how you ever managed without it. ... show more

  • Vac and mop all in one
Color: Roomba 105x Combo Ae Black
This was supposed to be an upgrade from my older more basic model purchased years ago. Things to know: I have almost entirely hardwood floors and tile. I have an older Pet version Roomba (forget teh number). I also have a Shinebot mopping robot and a random low grade pad mop / sweep robot to fill in. To start I needed to allow the robot to roam the house in order to create a map. This took me two attempts, and I was still not satisfied with the effectiveness of the mapping. I ended up adjusting the map by hand. It still looks wonky but does represent the house. Labeling the rooms will allow you to later tell the robot to clean specific areas or rooms. The vacuum function is reasonably effective with strong suction and cleaning rollers. The mopping function is not as effective as my Shinebot that scrubs the floor with a roller and vacuums up the dirty water. This is the more basic mop pad that is dragged along the floor like my generic combo model. It does have a setting for additional scrubbing. The robot will then go back and forth to better scrub the floor extending the time and battery usage for a better result on a stained floor. I have had difficulty having the robot complete a full cycle without getting stuck in places that the older model did not. Not really sure why as they are of similar dimensions but there is a determination of the robot to get into some areas that the older random path Roomba did not attempt repeatedly. There are multiple cleaning options that can be defined specifically for individual rooms such as level of vacuum, mopping water use intensity. This can be planned ahead of time so dirty areas get more attention. The auto empty function is loud but should be one less thing to clean after use. I have it connected this to my Google Hub for easy starting and the ability to say, "mop and vacuum this or that room". The Roomba App for this is different from the one I use for the older model so now I have two versions on my phone. I have found it difficult to complete an accurate map of the house and have it complete a full cycle without getting stuck in locations that the older model did not. It does maintain connectivity with the hub but voice instructions have to be specific. Just need to learn what to say to get the results intended. There were also no detailed instructions in the box. They must be obtained online which I found inconvenient and harder to follow while also using the phone for setup. Overall, it appears to be a good home cleaning device but requires a bit of getting used to and time to set up. Vacuum is excellent on bare floors, mopping is typical of pad drag models when used in the standard mode. Mapping may be a problem. There are plenty of cleaning level mode options for both vacuum and mopping that can be pre-programed. Initial set up is not as straight forward as it should be partially because directions are not included. Once set up it is rather simple to start and maintain (as long as it doesn't get stuck 15 mins after leaving the house). It is not as simple as the bump and turn random path robots of the past but then it was not intended to be. ... show more

  • It works, even without app
Color: Roomba 105x Combo Ae Black
I had a prior robot vacuum that was a pain as it could only be connected via the cellphone to get the app working. This vacuum was ready to go, right out of the box. I haven’t had it long, so I’m still trying to figure out some of its intricacies. The manual is downloadable. It shows the parts and how to make it vacuum or combo mop/vac. I downloaded the Roomba home app. And, then let it vacuum, without the mop pad installed. To get it to draw a map of your area, you have to go into the app, make sure the mop pad is off, tell it to create a map, and let it run around the area without vacuuming. (My other robot immediately drew the map as it was vacuuming and you could tell it where to mop.). This Roomba took about 10 minutes to map my main floor area. Once the map is drawn (and saved), you can choose a routine. Choices are: vacuum all rooms, combo vac/mop all rooms, spot clean, or create a routine. If you create a routine, you can designate “no mop” zones, so you can mop only your kitchen floor and not your rugs or wood floor. To make the mopping part work, you have to install the mop plate (with the mop pad attached) to the underside of the Roomba and fill the water tank. It even came with an extra mop pad. They recommend not using any cleaning additives to the water unless it’s Roomba approved to preclude machine damage. I think you can personalize suction and number of passes in your routine, but I haven’t got that figured out yet. I let it run vacuum only the first time (while I was not at home. So, I can’t tell you how long it took to do about 700 feet. I popped out the dust bin, by depressing the two green buttons and found a lot of cat hair and dust in the bin. Then I had to remove the brush and get more tangled cat hair off. (It’s shedding season and I only recently vacuumed, but I have 3 cats.) next I cleaned up the wheels and edger and brushed off the filter. Ready for next time. One part I still don’t get. The description says it can “capture debris for up to 75 days.” The charger has a vac bag in it, but if I’m emptying the dust bin manually, how does debris get into the charger’s vac bag. I can see that this vacuum could be smarter than I. I wish the e-manual were more extensive and explained the nuances of routines, setting it up to work with Alexa, and vacuum bags. I will say I got a nice dust free area (for awhile, till more cat fur falls off my felines). ... show more

  • Possibly the most annoying thing I’ve ever let in my house Possibly the most annoying thing I’ve ever let in my house
Color: Roomba 105x Combo Ae Black
I’ll start off by saying that for a select few people who have homes with nothing on the floor, minimal chairs and furniture , and you have no carpets or rugs, or pets, then this might work very well for you. I can’t know, because none of those things are true for my home, but I have observed that it did some clean up in my kitchen; it was far from complete, but it did get under my butcher block which I can’t get to with a push vacuum. Overall this was far more annoying than useful. It spent most of its time exploring my house and getting stuck in the same areas, again, and again, and again. It would shut itself off and say that it was stuck and needed to be cleared of obstacles, so I would, and it would go right back to the area where it got stuck, then the whole thing would happen again. I thought the point was to have an autonomous robot that would vacuum my floor for me while I was working on other tasks, not to adopt a hapless but daring adventurer that seeks out danger relentlessly and needs constant monitoring, babysitting, and rescuing. It is far less work to just vacuum my house myself, and that would be true even if the Roomba did a good job of vacuuming in the first place, which it doesn’t. It’s difficult to capture in photos, but everywhere it goes the carpet remains dirty. I’ll admit, it sometimes does a good job pushing the pet hair around and depositing it elsewhere in clumps, but that’s about it. I live in an old farmhouse, on a farm, with a dog and three cats, so maybe my house is just too much for it. Of course I don’t really understand the purpose of a vacuum that can’t clean a dirty house. If it only works on clean houses, why would anyone need one in the first place? ... show more

  • Replaced my S9+ and M6 combo
Color: Roomba 105x Combo Ae Black
While this is an entry level Roomba offered by iRobot, it has all of the flagship features that I had to pay 3 times more to get 5 years ago. It does everything that my previous S9+ and M6 combo did before, but better. It leads with the vacuum (clever design) and then follows with the mop in the rear. The mop itself is passively dragged along with the vacuum, so the scrubbing action takes place with the vacuum going repeatedly and forward and reverse over tough spots rather than dedicated motor (less parts to break). Excellent suction, home mapping, and when mopping it will turn around to avoid getting carpet and rugs wet. This has enough features that it can be a one-stop solution for floor cleaning. All of the functions you would need are here, but the nice to haves are missing like heated drying at the dock or auto refill of the mopping solution. The iRobot app is my favorite of all of the robot vacuum software out there. The schedule building, home mapping, customization, and reports it generates are all intuitive and easy to use. The best tactic to get setup as quickly as possible is to actually use the Mapping Run Only feature (leaves the vacuum and mop totally off while it runs around the house) as the first thing you do once it is powered up. Once you've let it do one complete cycle, you'll have a map that's maybe 90% accurate of your home. You can then continue to just use the device as normal and over the next two or three vacuum/mop runs, it will continue to update your maps until it is a perfect blueprint of your home. It took about two runs through the first floor to get it totally mapped out, however once that was done I could flawlessly automate the vacuum and mopping every week. Noise level is very pleasant and definitely better/quieter than the Roomba S9+ I was using before. The vacuum noise is comparable to a hair dryer on the low setting, very tolerable, and the mop is silent since it's passive. The only negative with this is that it doesn't perfectly clean the corners and only has a spinning brush on one side to feed into the main vacuum roller. I don't consider this egregious enough to remove a star, as every once in awhile I still like to do a manual deep cleaning with a vacuum and mop. My mindset with these devices is that they allow me to extend the time in between deep cleanings, not totally replace those chores with automation. This is $450 at the time of this review, which places it at the entry-level for the vacuum/dock combos. So should you buy it now at this price? Honestly, no. The high-end 505 Plus is currently half off for only $50 more and comes with all of the nice to haves like heated drying of the mop pads in the dock, automatic washing of the mop pads, automatic refilling the liquid tank, etc. If it goes on sale for 30% off of more though it will be a great buy. These vacuums have come such a long way in just 5 years. This is less than a third the price of the $1,400 S9+/M6 combo I bought 5 years ago. This combines both of those products into one and does a better job, so the potential value here is excellent once the price drops a little more. ... show more

  • An effective and enjoyable cleaning collaborator that benefits from supervision.
Color: Roomba 105x Combo Ae Black
Living with a robot vacuum is a particular kind of relationship. It’s somewhere between helpful household appliance and demanding small pet that occasionally needs to be rescued from underneath the couch. The Roomba Combo 1505X delivers genuinely on the cleaning front, handling challenges like large clumps of dog fur that might reasonably defeat a lesser machine, and the house is measurably cleaner for having it around. Getting there, however, involves a fair amount of restarting, relocating, and conducting search operations for a robot that has once again made questionable navigation decisions. The LiDAR navigation is competent without being infallible. It maps and moves with purpose and handles most situations well, but it finds trouble often enough that the ideal user is someone who is home and available to intervene. The ideal user would be someone who is busy enough to appreciate not vacuuming themselves, but present enough to periodically answer the distress call. For an empty house running unsupervised all day, results may vary. Initial setup was a little confusing, with the instruction manual and app leaving some gaps that required figuring out independently, but once connected, connectivity has been reliable and consistent. The cleaning performance itself is legitimately impressive once you give it enough time to prove itself. It’s the kind of robot that looks like it's underperforming until you realize it just quietly dealt with something genuinely difficult. The suction is close to ideal. It’s powerful enough to pull in substantial debris including large clumps of dog fur, yet calibrated well enough that nothing fragile or lightweight has been a casualty of overzealous intake. That balance between strong and destructive is harder to achieve than it sounds, and this one lands in the right place. The auto-empty dock is equally impressive and earns every bit of its billing. It handles itself completely without any intervention, the 75-day claim feels credible, and it makes the whole system feel genuinely autonomous in the way robot vacuums have always promised to be. The tradeoff is acoustic. The robot itself runs remarkably quietly during cleaning, but the docking and emptying cycle is startlingly loud by comparison. One unexpectedly charming data point is that the dog in the household who is frightened of conventional vacuum cleaners walked directly up to the Roomba on its first run and booped it with his nose. Whatever the LiDAR is doing, it apparently reads as non-threatening to anxious dogs, which is a quality of life improvement that doesn't appear anywhere in the spec sheet. For the price, this is a capable, entertaining, and genuinely useful machine. I think it’s a good value as long as you go in knowing it's a collaborator rather than a fully independent operator. ... show more

  • Gets stuck on chairs, cords, etc. low power suction, quite slow Gets stuck on chairs, cords, etc. low power suction, quite slow
Color: Roomba 105x Combo Ae Black
While I was super excited to get one of these, I would say it has quite a few flaws. The obvious pro is that you don't have to vacuum yourself. The system works quite well. First you setup the map of your house by just starting the process on the mobile phone app. It moves around and maps it out quite well for our 1100 sq ft apartment. After that you can just begin and let it do its thing. The setup process was easy and fast. However, then the limitations become obvious once it begins cleaning. This thing has all sorts of issues. It got caught on yarn that my wife left out, cables to charge phones got wrapped and stuck inside. And the worst part is trying to do the dining room, it kept getting stuck on the chairs (mine the front and back legs are connected and it gets stuck on that elevated portion) and needed to be moved away. Any sort of tricky area, even the lip of a high rug it could get trapped. In the end I had to use the app to remove most of my dining room, and any other high rug area that it could get stuck on. I'd also have to clean up the apartment quite thoroughly before it began, making sure no loose wires etc. were in the way. It also sucks up my older son's Legos. The object detection is not good enough to avoid these things. The app makes it simple however to remove areas from the cleaning paths with simple drag and scale tools. I did find however the suction on the areas it did attempt was pretty lacking and low power vs a normal vacuum and like a little piece of cardboard would just still be on the rug after it finished which I could not understand. I would even place the cardboard piece right in front of it and it would run over it and the piece would not be sucked up? which I just don't really understand. In any case I think for a small apartment it doesn't really make much sense to use one of these either as the time it takes is like an hour and the thing is not that quiet and a bit obtrusive as it rolls around scaring my two year old and you have to dodge it while you walk around. Many people say run it when you leave the house but in my case it gets stuck on things it does not seem like a good idea. I would say this is ideal for a very specific person/house where you are very clean and the house has basically nothing on the floors and nothing to traverse that has any height. For my purposes however it will be used once and awhile but not a replacement for a normal vacuuming. I could not really compare to other robo-vacs as I don't have any other, but I would say you should research this first and see if it fits your type of house and lifestyle before purchasing, it is not smart enough to simply just work without any fine tuning. For me it is more of a novelty that I will use once and a while. The kids do think it is quite fun to watch it roll around the house as it moves almost like it is a giant bug moving around and makes for an exciting experience for them. As a vacuum though I will probably just use my dyson for 15 mins and just do it myself. ... show more

  • Works great! Works great!
Color: Roomba 105x Combo Ae Black
Had my doubts on these robotic vaccuum machines, but I have to handed to it because it does a pretty good job at vacuuming up the loose debris on the floor around my home. It's easy to setup. The application is user friendly so there is no digging into the app to get it started. The only thing is that you do have to do is create an account. Everything that you need it to do is setup or managed via the application. The first thing that it does is to map your home's accesible floor which takes a few minutes. The machine does a pretty good job at determining the different rooms (not so much the hallways), but you are able to adjust them in the app if needed. It's slower than if you were to vaccuum yourself, but setting up a scheduled time is super convenient. I've had it start vacuuming the floor while I was at work, and, I gotta say that it's cleaning performance is pretty good. The noise level will depend on the surface that the machine is vacuuming on. On hard floors, its noticeable and moderately loud but where you can still watch TV by turning up the volume a little bit. On the other hand, on carpets the power and suction increases making it louder but that's expected since it has to powerup to pick up debris that is in between the carpet fabric. It may seem like it gets stuck at times, but its programming allows it to move around in such a way to free it from the obstacles surrounding it. Unless the wheels themselves aren't on the ground, then you will need to assist it, but you will get notified if it needs help. I do like the fact that it speaks to you when its done and if there were areas that it could not get to. The map on the app will show the areas that it got to. It's home base is louder than the robot when it goes into its self-emptying phase getting it close to a blender but it lasts only a few seconds and gives you the peace of mind that most, if not all, of the dirt and dust was sucked away. The mop function is also a good feature as it will mop and clean your freshly vacuumed floor. Just like manual mopping it does leave the floor moist but it dries up quick so its best to do it when there is not much foot traffic. Cleaning the robot is also really easy and the filters are easy to remove and replace. Overall, the robot allows you to spend more time doing other tasks/chores/activities. I would recommend for anyone not wanting to spend time vacuuming and mopping. Its a bit on the pricey side but with all the features and functions that it has, its a well designed robot to assist you with an everyday chore especially when time is limited. ... show more
