I upgraded from the first-generation model to the iRobot Roomba 104 on January 8, 2026, and overall I’m very impressed. Setup and Wi-Fi connection were quick and easy. The app has a learning curve, especially when it comes to navigation and configuring the mop function, but scheduling is very straightforward once the home map is created. The biggest challenge was figuring out how to schedule mopping. I haven’t been able to set it to vacuum and mop simultaneously for the entire house, so I scheduled a separate mop session for the kitchen and dining room. Once scheduled, the mop function works great and cleans those areas well. Navigation is excellent after the map is established—it no longer bumps into everything like the first-generation model did. If it gets stuck, it sends a notification both verbally and through the app, and you can also locate the unit through the app instead of searching for it manually. The Roomba is very quiet during operation; I can easily stay on the phone while it’s running. The loudest part is when it empties the dust bin. I have the suction set to the highest level due to pets, and it performs very well on both hard floors and carpet. I purchased a refurbished unit, and the only thing missing was the physical manual, which is available in the app. Overall, it feels durable, performs well, and is definitely worth the money. This is one of the biggest wastes of money I have spent in a while. I bought it a little less than a year ago. After 2 or 3 runs, it had an issue saying that it 'needed to be placed on a level surface ' which it was....I looked on roombas website and it said that this is a known issue and to resolve it, take off the bumper, clean the sensor and start it again, which I did, and it worked another 2-3 cycles before it happened again. I called Roomba explaining that I shouldn't need to do open heart surgery on this vacuum every other use. The lady on the call said that it seemed to be a software issue; however, the procedure for taking off the bumper was for like 10 other models and not this model therefore they couldnt honor the warranty. I submitted a claim online and the guy I spoke with earlier apologized and said the earlier representative was mistaken and he sent me a replacement. Since I've gotten the replacement, I've continued to have new issues where it randomly stops and says 'roomba needs help' but doesn't tell me why until I force close the app several times. It then says there's a docking station pump issue....why does that have anything to do with the vacuum itself? I have no idea. The result and diagnosis is to always restart everything and redownload the app. This is supposed to be a convenience, however, it's just been easier to vacuum the house with an old school vacuum. I had two prior 'knock off' vacuums I used to run simultaneously, and they were bulletproof. The only reason I decided to get this one is because of the automatic emptying feature and the 'alleged' improvement for the mapping, none of which have been worth it. Makes sense why irobot is having a hard time keeping up with the competition based on customer service and overall product functionality. Never will I purchase an irobot product again. ... show more

I give it 5 stars, simply because it is a super cool gadget. This hardware is impressive—how it maps, moves around, and goes through and around various obstacles. I have various carpets, thin rugs, a runner in the hallway, and plants. Some things could become obstacles, but the Roomba went through all of them. You could use the Roomba without the app because you push the button, and it starts doing its thing. I give it four out of five because the app could be better. The setup: Obviously, this is a high-tech device right in the Box. There's a QR code that everyone should scan to download the app, and that's where you set up the connection and update. Still, we ran into some issues where the Wi-Fi would not connect. Remember, you have to use a lower frequency Wi-Fi. I have a 5G Wi-Fi, and I had to make some adjustments to turn on 2.4 Wi-Fi. I ran into some struggles because my wife wants the app on her phone; therefore, I had to reset the Roomba to set it up on her phone, which was a bit of a struggle. It didn't know what to do, but we got it to work after a few resets. The App. Getting used to the maneuvering back and forth gives you a check in the settings, but it still takes getting used to. I noticed one section of the app that freezes when I click on it. I will have to completely exit the app and come back in. Another thing is that the user guide with pictures and instructions is a PDF file within the app. You need to have a PDF app to see it. I could see someone may have to struggle with that. Overall, our house is always clean, and there's nothing on the floor to make it difficult for the Roomba, so my setup and mapping were pretty smooth. If you have a messy home with stuff on the ground, I could see that it will be rough for the Roomba. I suggest a preclean, as in picking up oddball stuff, and let it do this mapping. Final review: It's great for busy people, and the large home format makes hardwood cleaning with solutions the best. If you have a smaller apartment, one bedroom is probably easier to grab your vacuum and be done in 20 minutes. The picture shows you the mapping in the bathroom pattern from the Roomba it covers virtually everything but my tables. Two circles on the app, the with the sad face is the one that freezes the app. The only reason 4 out of five instead of 5 out of 5 is that the app may a struggle for a few users. ... show more
