  • Great help for quick cleans, but beware of cords Great help for quick cleans, but beware of cords
Style: Roomba 105 Combo (y351)
Overall, I'm very happy with the iRobot Roomba 104. It has become an important part of my weekly cleaning routine, acting as the perfect in between cleaner to maintain the house between our monthly professional, deep cleans. For our household, it is worth the money. Vacuuming and Mopping performance. The Roomba 104 performs well on our hardwood floors. For vacuuming, it easily handles the day-to-day crumbs from a busy kitchen - we both cook a lot and I'm messy. I was also impressed with its ability to pick up long hair without issue. A helpful tip, I found it cleans more effectively under the dining room table if I pull the chairs out and place them on the table. As for the mopping feature, it also did a great job on our hardwoods, leaving them looking clean. It's an excellent for a light, maintenance level mop. I haven't yet tested it on any significant spills, but for a general weekly clean, it does the job. The only significant frustration has been with Cleaning under our bed. Despite efforts to tuck power cords against the wall, the Roomba repeatedly got tangled, forcing me to use the app to make it skip cleaning the bedroom. App control and Mapping. The smart mapping feature worked well overall, creating a functional layout of our home. However, it wasn't perfect on the first try. It misinterpreted our stairways as small, separate rooms that needed to be deleted. Our main floor is a very open concept ( kitchen, dining room, living room room) and I had found that I'll need to spend a little more time in the app learning how to divide that large space into smaller custom cleaning zones. Day-to-day operation is simple, I know there's a lot more to learn in the app. Ease of use and time savings This is where the Roomba 104 truly shines. The basic operation is incredibly simple. It's saved me the time of manually cleaning; it has given us a cleaner house because I'm using it to clean more often than I would do on my own. Noise level, I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the unit is when an operation. The noise level is low and not at all disruptive. We even had friends over while I was finishing a cycle and they commented on how it was so much quieter than the robot vacuum they own from another brand. The only loud moment is when the Roomba docks back at the base station which then sucks out the debris. Overall, the Roomba 104 has filled the gap between deep cleans, keeping our home cleaner with little effort. ... show more

  • Cannot connect to base, discharges, loses WiFi . . . a Do Not Buy!
Style: Roomba 105 Combo (y351)
Oct 18, 2025 - iRobot Roomba 104 2in1 Vacuum & Mop Robot - Self-Empties for 75 Days Nov 03, 2025 - Too be fair - the robot did a great job vacuuming, but its tiny little bin filled up quick. Real quick. I have a German Shephard. Oct 19, 2025 Screw this. Won't dock. Discharges battery, loses setup. Auto-empty Dock does not evacuate robot bin. Total fail. Nothing in documents. Five times setup, five times lost. Good vacuum, but the software and "auto" doesn't work. I am returning. Oct 18, 2025 I am writing this as my trusty Roomba 690, which I have had for six years, is happily completing its job in the Master Bedroom. I purchased this Roomba 104 on the 9th, received it October 11th. I set it up as I have set up many robo-vacs before. I was disappointed that it had to "map" the house before it would vacuum. Seriously? It cannot vacuum and map at the same time? The map was a joke! All it mapped was the outline of my floor spaces, not in the middle. The next day was its first "work" day. It was programmed to start daily at 6am. It vacuumed a few days, but sadly, seemed to only do the "outline". Then, it could not "back up" to the charge / emptying base. Over and over, I found it at the base but discharged because it could not connect. Then, I discovered the base was not clearing out the dust bin of the vacuum! This thing does not function AT ALL as expected! Even at a 44% discount, NOT a VALUE! As many others have reported - it LOSES the WiFi! It does not start, then. I had to do a factory reset to connect to it again. BTW, why does iRobot need your phone to report the PRECISE location??? Why and what are you tracking, iRobot??? Of course, with the factory reset, it will have to map all over again, a complete waste of time! The map could be stored on the phone, in the Roomba app, but noooooo. I will give it another chance but return it at the end of the month if it fails again. ... show more

  • Surprisingly good. Highly recommend
Style: Roomba 405 Combo (g181)
I've used this vacuum for about a week now and let me tell you, its fantastic. I have cats, and the area in front of their litter box has always had some litter end up on the floor when they come out after doing their business so its an everyday thing to vacuum that area alone. I run the roomba every day before I get home from work and walk into a perfectly clean floor every time. The mop feature is tremendous and works surprisingly well. I was a little skeptical about the quality of mop the roomba could do but I was very surprised when I saw how good it actually did. I had 1 issue when setting the vacuum up, it got stuck in an endless software update and none of the trouble shooting tips worked. I eventually tried the last tip which was to remove 9 screws on the bottom of the vacuum and remove the battery to force a hard reset, which ended up working. Since then I've had no issues and really enjoy being able to come home to a clean floor every day. I wanted to update this review after having the vacuum for a little while now. I still love the vacuum, and I run it every day. I have noticed that it does not like pet hair all that much, I do find myself cleaning the pethair out of it maybe 1 time a week or so, but other than that it's great. I will take my standard vacuum and hit the areas where the pet hair seems to accumulate and that makes the vacuum much more carefree as far as cleaning the hair out of it. Overall I enjoy it, and think it's a great purchase! ... show more

  • Roomba 104 does decent job at vacuuming our vinyl plank flooring - a real time saver.
Style: Roomba 105 Combo (y351)
Overall, I am pretty happy with this Roomba. Its a pretty cool unit. It has some quirky behavior when running and doesn't seem efficient at using the map it generated but it does a pretty good job at cleaning. The rotating brush gets stuck under carpets sometimes which causes the robot to backup and/or curl the carpet up going over it. At least this one doesn't bump into everything and get stuck under furniture like the older one did. This unit returns to the base to recharge and then resumes cleaning after recharging if it didn't finish the cleaning job. The brush and the vacuum tend to push small debris onto areas already cleaned so it doesn't get everything up. Emptying the dust bit is NOISEY. My wife really dislikes that, although I like not having to empty the dust bin. We do not have pets so can't comment on pet hair. Overall, though I am pretty happy with this Roomba model. We use it in between professional house cleanings. I have not used the moping feature. It was a bit cumbersome to edit the map that was created by Roomba and it is not clear to me why it left several areas out of the map when there were no obstructions in that area, e.g. a 2ft wide strip along the sliding patio door. Perhaps the LIDAR detected the door closer than it was. Out of the box, the unit was easy to setup and get working. WiFi connectivity was easy to configure. Though I did not like the fact that so much information about you home was/or could be sent to 3rd parties. I almost returned the unit over privacy issues. Unfortunately for me, the new app for this unit doesn't control the older unit, so I have to have two apps if I want to keep the older one. However, Alexa is able to start either of the robots or both of them, which was entertaining as they bumped into each other a lot even though I waited 30 minutes before starting the second robot. I was able to get my unit to complete vacuuming in one battery charge by picking up most obstructions, turning the chairs upside down on the table, picking up shoes and small stools and most carpets, laundry baskets, waste paper baskets etc. ... show more

  • Not very effective
Style: Roomba 105 Combo (y351)
3 stars for Roomba. First, it doesn't pick up dirt and pet hair well, even on hard surfaces which is 90% of my home. It certainly doesn't pick up anything from the carpeted area. The brush mostly flings dust and bits of flotsam around rather than the intended scoop into the vacuum path. I found I had to go behind it to sweep and vacuum to get all the stuff it missed. If that's the case, why bother? And it gets stuck on EVERYTHING and must be rescued frequently. The mop function just slides a bit of water over the floor and doesn't scrub areas like a regular mop so you'll have to come back and mop again if there's anything remotely stuck on. The app is fine but since the robot itself is almost useless, that doesn't matter either. I ended up using it it for a couple of months and mostly for cursory vacuums in the open spaces and walkways until I could get time to fully vacuum and then mop. ... show more

  • The Little Overachiever That Eats Our Crumbs
Style: Roomba 105 Combo (y351)
If you want a real set it and forget it floor routine without paying a ton, this Roomba has been a lifesaver in my house. I am a busy mom with a busy career, and the floors still manage to look like people live here in a good way. It handles the everyday dust and pet hair we have plenty of, maps the rooms, and goes back and forth in neat lines like a little overachiever. The auto empty base is the hero of the story. I do not have to think about the dustbin for weeks, which feels like getting time back I did not know I was missing. My last Roomba needed constant emptying, so this is a big upgrade. Set up was easy. I ran it once to map the house, named it because that is what we do with robots now, and then made a simple schedule in the app. I have keep out zones around the kids Lego zone and the dog’s water bowl, and it actually respects those boundaries better than my children. Most nights I tap start after dinner and it cruises around while homework is happening. By the time teeth are brushed, the crumbs are gone and I did not have to haul out the big vacuum. The mop is a light maintenance mop, which is exactly what I wanted. It keeps the floors presentable between real mop days. Think sticky handprints and faint spaghetti trails disappearing, not grout restoration projects. On mixed floors it avoids rugs while mopping rather than lifting the pad, so it takes a little longer to work around the living room, but it does not drag a damp pad across my area rugs and I will take that trade. For bigger messes I spot mop, but most days this keeps me ahead of the chaos. Cleaning performance is solid. It fits under our couch and beds, which is where dust bunnies retire. Edges and corners are good enough (see video) that I only grab a handheld once in a while for the truly stubborn spots. Noise is background level. I can still hear spelling words and the oven timer, which is the bar in this house. A few real life notes. I try to pick up phone chargers before a run. It can handle small stuff, but no robot loves a charging cable. I rinse the mop pad every few days, swap in a fresh one on the weekend, and empty the clean water tank when I remember. The base bags last a while for us, and replacing them has been simple. None of this feels like work compared to daily sweeping and vacuuming. If your home is mostly hard floors with some low to medium pile rugs and you want a dependable daily clean without babysitting, this is a great fit!! ... show more

  • Switched to Eufy and Never Looked Back
Style: Roomba 105 Combo (y351)
I bought this in January when the reviews were still mostly positive and not many people had rated it yet. At first, I was excited because it vacuumed and mopped pretty well, but the problems quickly started adding up. The Wi-Fi would randomly disconnect, and I’d constantly have to wait for it to reconnect. The biggest issue, though, was the battery. It was awful. It would take hours just to charge 20–30%, and then the robot would die after only about 20 minutes of cleaning. Sometimes it took an entire day — even into the next day — to fully charge. It became incredibly frustrating. Another problem was that cords would get stuck in it, and the robot wouldn’t even properly notify me. One time, it dragged the charging cord around the house while cleaning, and I only noticed because I happened to see it. It would also randomly stop in the middle of an open room, flash red, and claim it was stuck when absolutely nothing was blocking it. This was my first robot vacuum, so I thought maybe these issues were normal. Eventually, I returned it and bought the Eufy S1 Pro — and the difference was unbelievable. The Eufy charges quickly, avoids wires almost perfectly, stays connected to Wi-Fi, cleans itself, and the battery life is so much better. After switching, I realized how stressful this Roomba actually was. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend it. ... show more

  • Poor Battery Performance - Avoid This One Poor Battery Performance - Avoid This One
Style: Roomba 105 Combo (y351)
I bought my first Roomba about 11 years ago, then bought a second one (the upscale s9) a few years later because of the self-emptying feature. I have been using both since, and my original one has (I think) finally given up the ghost, even after a new battery was installed. Quite the work horse. So I decided it was time to replace it, and found this model for an impressively low price - with the features of the s9 (which I paid around $1000 for some years ago) for around $300! While at first I was very pleased with the 104, noting particularly that it was very quiet on standard mode and that it mapped the house very quickly, I soon discovered that the battery was a problem. Its pattern quickly became ... vacuum 15-20 minutes, go back and charge for 1 hour and 25 minutes, vacuum for 15-20 minutes, charge for 1 hr 25 minutes ... and on and on continuously. It would return for charge with 40% of battery life left (the app said, at least) and would only recharge to 55%, and then go out and work again. (That meant that, in almost an hour and a half, it only added about 15% of battery life back! It would return to cleaning based on "time on charger, "rather than % of battery life.) Yesterday, I started it cleaning at 11:30AM, and it finally finished vacuuming my house (roughly 2000 sq ft) at 4:45AM TODAY! I called iRobot. First, they had me do a factory reset, because it would not recharge to 100%. Thought this would help, and it appeared to, at first ... but then the old pattern began again. So I contacted them again, and got a live agent, who had me send a photo of where I had it docked, and put me through a series of "I'm curious about ..." discussions. The agent broke to talk to his superiors 3 or 4 times, and at one point did say that the battery on the 104/105 models was "different," but wouldn't acknowledge that I had a defective machine. He didn't think the battery was the issue! (Implication ... it had to be me, I guess. And we're talking about their robot!!) So I gave up and contacted Amazon about a return. They offered me $50 if i kept it, and I took the offer - and applied it to ANOTHER BRAND of robot they sell (Mova P10, which is highly recommended by at least one tester). I'm going to keep working on this 104 to see if I can get it to do better ... but mostly, I think it's a dud. I think iRobot Roomba's have gone downhill in quality in the 10 years or so that I have been using their product. Internet reviewers who test these products seem to agree. I would not recommend this model of Roomba unless you have a small space to keep clean - as it takes forever to do a whole house. It DOES handle throw rugs well, for the most part (an improvement over their older models) - and also does not leave dog hair behind in twirls on the carpet to be picked up by hand (another improvement). And it did provide excellent coverage of the areas to be cleaned. But if this is the normal battery performance of this model (as their live agent implied), I would not recommend it to someone who wants a whole house cleaned. You get what you pay for, I guess ... Photos of some of the app's tracking of the 104's activity included here, just to illustrate how slowly it worked. ... show more
