I have been using Ion hair dye for nearly a decade. I've used several different black dyes, but Ion is the only at home hair color that I have used that gives me a natural look. Other black dyes make it appear as though I am wearing a wig. Ion also gives my hair a nice shine and healthy appearance. Other dyes have actually damaged my hair, but not Ion. The color is long lasting. It starts to dull after 3 months. For me, it takes 6 months for the dye to fade out. So if you are wanting to change your hair color from black, you should be able to safely after 6 months, from my experience. It was the perfect copper color I needed and couldn’t find anywhere in the stores. I had dark hair and bleached it, but it turned out a beautiful copper. Hard to match with anything on the shelf, but this worked great.

Love this color very vibrant even on darker hair. If you buy this make sure to buy developer for it so the color activates. Do not just put the color by itself in your hair or it will not work. MIX IT WITH A DEVELOPER OF YOUR CHOICE BEFORE APPLYING.( i used 20 vol Wella developer) This is permanent hair dye not semi so you cant put this in without developer. Heres a picture of when i first dyed it and a picture of how its looks faded. (My entire head i used the same purple I just bleached certain sections of my hair so it the color would be lighter in certain sections which is how I got the pink) ... show more

I’ve been searching for a permanent red dye for bleached hair, and this worked so well. Instructions said to use 10 volume developer but I only had 20, so I used 1oz 20 volume and 1oz water and it worked perfectly. Will update on how it fades UPDATE!! 2nd picture is ~8 weeks after I dyed it. It stuck around pretty well for ~7 weeks, then got pretty orangey. (I shower in coldish water every other day and swim once a week) It only lasted a little bit longer than my usual semi-permanent, which it a bit frustrating considering this is supposed to be permanent. PROS: DOESN'T STAIN ANYTHING!! decently long lasting, perfect color CONS: damages hair a bit, doesn't last as long as I'd like, dying process is a bit involved Overall, it depends on what you're looking for. if you'd rather have less damage, easy application, and are ok with a pink shower and pillowcases, I highly recommend adore semi-permanent dye. If you want it to stick around a little longer and not stain anything, choose this! Personally, I think I'll keep using this, considering I'm going into college and will be sharing a bathroom. ... show more

    • My favorite black hair dye

I have been using this dye for many months now. It leaves my hair super black for a long time. If it gets on my skin, it's easy to get off with water. I haven't had to worry about a stain on my skin after coloring. Some marks are a little more difficult to get off if they stay on for the whole process, but still come of fairly easily with water and a rag/towel. The process I do that has made it last longer was: • Wash my un-dyed hair with shampoo only before coloring (no conditioner for this one) • Wait 24 hours from last hair wash to color (My hair gets oily fast, so 48 hours is too long for me). The oils help lessen the damage to your hair but too much oil has been a problem for me. • After I dye, rinse with cold water til the water runs clear and use the ION color sealer (this stuff genuinely works. You can use it a couple times a week after you dye too). I do not use shampoo or conditioner on this step so the color can settle in. • Wait 48 hours to wash hair again and wash every other day after that. This is when you can use conditioner again. When I started doing that I saw a big difference. Of course, make sure you tailor it to your hair type, but this is what's worked for me. The nice thing about this dye is that while it does make a little color come out during shampooing for some washes, it doesn't stain anything and doesn't run with just water. That means if it rains you won't have to worry! It doesn't get on my clothes at all if it gets wet like temporary colors. ... show more

Oh I am super mad, this color is so dark, and because it's permanent it's not washing out either. I used it with Ion sentsitive scalp developer and it burned my scalp so bad, too. I literally have scabs on my scalp causing a great deal of my hair to fall out. I'm livid. And how do you return a product to let the manufacturer there is an issue after you used 100% of? I've been doing my own hair for 40 years and the worst I've ever encountered was products that didn't work. This was my worst experience! ... show more
