  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Quality add ons to a solid Intel Kit
Size: 16GB RAM|1TB SSD Style: Windows 11 Pro Color: Xeon E-2286
If you've researched Intel's NUC line of products you probably already know that you can buy most of this device as a barebones kit. The case, powersupply, motherboard, and CPU come with it. So what you are buying in this product is the missing components, ram, a harddrive and a Windows license key. I debated buying a barebones kit and doing this myself as disassembly is very easy requiring only a small screwdriver, it's like working on a laptop. But for the price (I paid $909 before tax) it was hard to find a better deal. I was concerned that the add-on components would be unbranded or of low quality, as the seller did not list the brand of parts they would add, just the capacity. But this was not the case. I checked both in the system settings and physically opened the case myself. I was pleasantly surprised to find a Western Digital Green SN350 nvme drive and Samsung ram (3200mhz). Sure the WD green line is their lowest tier but it's a quality manufacturer I've used many times in the past. Pretty much any nvme will give great read/write speeds. The Samsung ram clocked at 3200mhz is I believe the highest these NUC 9 machines support, so good to see that wasn't cheaped out on. If I were to buy these two components myself it would cost me about $100. The power cord is my only minor complaint, I received a 3ft long Monoprice cable rated for 13amps. It's again a well know brand and very sturdy but 3ft may not be long enough for some people. It's a cheap fix though these cables only run about $10. I opted for the Windows 11 Pro license. It was installed with the proper out of box experience on first boot up. It's good to see the vendor sell this way, it ensures they didn't install any extra software or make configuration changes unknown to you. I believe it's also a requirement to be a certified Microsoft Reseller or whatever they're calling the program now. I'm sure being a retailer brings the cost of the license down for them, but if I were to try and buy a Windows 11 Pro license key it would cost somewhere between $160 and $200, if you were to get it from Microsoft. There are key resellers who promise legitimate keys for a much lower price if you want to gamble on some savings but to get a guaranteed genuine key costs quite bit these days. So is $909 a good price for this item? I think so. I've seen similarly configured systems listed for as much as $1500. I estimate the seller put about $300 of value in hardware and software (just the OS) into this kit. It's hard to find these Xeon based boards, but a similar i9 barebones kit can be had right now for about $575. The Xeon cpu benchmarks slightly higher (about 5%) but they are otherwise very comparable. So if we round up a Xeon barebones kit to $600 and then add the cost for me, the consumer, to purchase the identical ram hdd and Windows key, it would cost me right at $900. I suspect the nature of these machines being easy to work on, likely it took them under an hour to install hardware and image the drive, and a discount to install Windows as a certified reseller is what makes them profit off these machines. Here's the bottom line. If you want a NUC 9 and you don't want to source the extra parts yourself this is a good option. Especially if you value your time. This is all set right out of the box with good quality parts. You could shop around and take a gamble on some shady Windows license key sites, but for me it wasn't worth it. If you're really picky about hardware then you're probably better off putting together your own mini ITX build. ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Nice computer if you know how to work on them
Size: 16GB RAM|1TB SSD Style: Windows 11 Pro Color: Core i7
This is a nice computer when it worked I had it less than a month when about 3 weeks in I was watching a YouTube video and the computer just shut down and would not come back on. It then made clicking noise the only way I can try to describe the clicking sound like the fan was trying to spin but the blades wouldn’t move? I felt the computer immediately and it was warm but not hot enough to warrant it shutting down? It has a lot of ventilation. The only other issue is when trying to boot the computer up in the morning after shutting down the night before. It gives an error message saying a no bootable device detected or something along those same lines. I am not good when it comes to issues like this with computers. I did not want to do anything to harm the inside of parts so I decided to just send it back to the seller. I don’t think it comes directly from Intel but when trying to contact seller it contacts you with Intel customer service. They did say if I was comfortable taking it apart to do so, but as I stated I did not want to mess anything up inside because I do not have all the right tools and was not sure where everything was because the instructions were only written (I’m a visual learner for those that are as well). I also was hoping to play things like apex and Fortnite. Sadly Fortnite only worked for about a week and then the integrated graphics card no longer met the requirements Fortnite has. If you know how to fix computer issues this is a good purchase I think I just got a bad one. Hope this helps someone ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Product Malfunctioning and returned to supplier - new one quickly on the way.
Size: 32GB RAM|2TB SSD Style: Windows 11 Pro Color: Core i7
In spite of a 5 star rating, I had to return the item due to a problem with either Windows 11 or a bios-related situation. I requested a return from Amazon, whose customer help has always been very good to me. They contacted the seller and they agreed to take the item back and give me a refund. I called the supplier, GreatPriceTech, and told them that I really liked the machine, when it was working, and would like to have it replaced with another if possible. I returned the NUC yesterday and was told that when they receive it they will approve the refund. Meanwhile, I ordered another which will be here in two days. For the time I had the machine I was extremely impressed with its speed, quiet operation, and really small size. I had a 12-year-old Gateway 6860 gamer that I wanted to replace as it is really outdated and to replace the motherboard, cpu, and video card with good quality items could easily go over $2,000. The small 7 lb NUK blew away my 48-pound Gateway in every way possible. I was more than happy. Hopefully, the new NUK will put a smile back on my face. I can only speak for myself, but the reason I go thru AMAZON is that anytime I have had a problem they or the seller have always quickly handled it to my satisfaction. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Decent little machine
Size: 32GB RAM|1TB SSD Style: Windows 11 Pro Color: Core i7
First time dealing with thunderbolt video. Put these in for a client. They needed smaller monitors due to limited desk space. Some users have dual monitors. Monitors that we got for them are native at 1344X768. The HDMI port outputs this fine. The thunderbolt does not. That is a resolution option, but the monitor does not show an image at that setting. Had to drop the resolution down for the second monitor, and that does not look as good. Tried a straight USB to HDMI adapter and it does not even support that resolution at all. Closest I can get to it is 1280x800. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Great price. Just take a quick peak inside.
Size: 64GB RAM|512GB SSD Style: Windows 11 Pro Color: Core i7
Booted up with no issues. I’ve gotten everything moved over and installed. Two issues only. I had problems getting the BIOS to update, but that’s an Intel issue. I ended up having to trick the system in doing a BIOS restore to get it to install the newer BIOS. I found one loose cable when I popped it open to install a second SSD. Appears to run a fan, so not the end of the world, but since the seller says the do open the case to install things, it’s worth a look inside to check for loose cables. ... show more
