  • 2nd stage incubation
We got this as a second stage incubator so we can have two going at one time if needed and stagger the broods. When I got this, I opened the box and was pleasantly impressed. At first, I thought it had Playskool coloring on it. You could almost mistake this for a giant kids toy at a glance. Removal from the shipping container was a snap. After closer inspection, I found it felt like it had a quality build to it. The clear plastic dome is thick enough to be sturdy but not so thick that it is heavy. There are different trays for different size eggs, and this will turn your eggs for you. I also like that all I really have to do is keep an eye on the temps and humidity, don't let the water bottles go dry, and I should be good to go. The candling light on the top works well and the tray spins at a snail's pace, which is what you want. The one issue I have so far is the cord length. It could be another 3-4 feet longer to make placement a little easier. Using this machine is easy and straight forward. As I said, you just have to keep an eye on the humidity and don't let the water bottles go dry. I can fit several quail eggs in this thing. I think it holds up to 18 chicken eggs so I think this will hold at least 25 or more quail eggs safely. All in all this is a very good value for the money. ... show more

  • Great addition if you are in the chicken game
My wife has gotten pretty into her chicken hobby lately, so I picked up this incubator to help her grow her little flock. It has worked really well with no issues so far. The egg turner is a great feature and helps keep the eggs rotated, which she says helps a lot with hatch rates. It even stops turning a few days before they hatch, just like it is supposed to. The temperature and humidity stay consistent, based on the machine itself, and the digital display makes it easy to keep track of everything. We also like that it has external water ports so you do not have to keep opening the lid and letting heat escape every time you need to add water. It holds a good number of eggs for a small operation, and the adjustable tray has worked with different egg sizes. The egg candler is a nice touch. It helps you see what is going on inside each egg without needing a separate light. The instructions were helpful, and setup was easy as long as you follow the steps. Overall, this has been a solid buy and has made the hatching process a lot easier and more fun for her. Definitely a good pick for someone just getting started or adding to a backyard flock. ... show more

  • It seems to need the Styrofoam case regardless of ambient temperature
This is a second incubator for me, and I am by no means a master at it. Since I was thinking about purchasing another incubator to complement the first, I snagged this one with joy. (And another one) This incubator has two tray sets, a regular/18 and a larger/8, you can only use one at a time. This one is a "forced air" type. It seems to keep the temperature ok; if the vent is open the inside temp measurement is a full 1 degree lower that what the incubator stated, like wise fully closed it was 1 degree high... its unclear if the temp on the screen is it's goal or what it thinks it is acctully(some times it toggles between 2 temps) but it seems like, non flashing one is the goal temp. When I set this up, I put 7 ready to pip guinea eggs. One was already peeping. .... this thing made it look like it was keeping temp because the screen seemed to indicate that was the case. However after some time I noticed the peeping baby was not peeping any more, at first I though, oh its probably sleeping. 12 hours Later ... I pulled out my thermometer and put it in the vent hole. The temperature was very low, (like 80 degrees) there had been no alarm, the thing has been running the fan continuously, presumably since I turned it on. I checked my hand held thermometer against the older incubator I have, and the older one agreed with its declared temperature with in a about 1/10 of a degree. I took a room temp, at that time it was above 74 degrees. I even pulled out a lazer temp gun and it said the stuff was cold as well. So I pulled out the Styrofoam case put it on the dumb thing knowing it was probably too late any way. I found that this incubator needs to have its Styrofoam shell, regardless of ambient temp. With the case on it does hold the temperature ok. I don't trust the things alarm/measurements anymore though. This had directions but they are a bit, conveluded. This one says put it in a room that is 74 degrees, additionally it says to set it in its (packaging) Styrofoam if the room is cooler than that. I Will update when I have run a batch or two though it. I like that water can be added without having to open the lid. The humidity is "controlled " mechanically, you use one bottle earlier and two during lock down. It doesn't do anything if the moisture is too high, but i gat an alarm after I removed both bottles, and drained the tray, at 37% humidity. Be sure to follow the three hour warm up, it siguested.... follow that with a temperature check, from a separate thermometer, and use the Styrofoam regardless of room temperature. This thing also says to cap the water ports with the lids even when you are not using the ports for water. It seems like if it was acctully cool in your room it might need more insulation, such as a blanket placed so the air hole is still open. The lid/clear part doesn't have a handle, so the lid is difficult to open with one hand, ( while holding an egg) to quickly enter and exit the hatching box. The the lids seems ok but thin. It seems like a very basic hatcher... I got this one for use during lock down.... so the big one I have can keep intubating eggs until they reach lock down age. The candler works ok for chicken eggs, but it is a bit big For use on genies hen eggs. This came to me in a brown box, packed carefully and It came to me with a few scratches on the clear lid. ... show more

  • Nice incubator with several features
This is a pretty basic incubator with a few nice upgrades (candler light, humidity control, warning alarms for humidity and temperature, egg turner). It comes disassembled, including a loose gear you have to put in yourself to get the egg turner to work, which seemed odd. It's easy enough to put together though. All features seem to work as they should. I saw other reviews saying the temperature wasn't accurate but we haven't had issues with that so far. However, the humidity warning alarm was going off constantly until we filled both water bottles. We haven't had it long enough to see how it does hatching eggs through their entire incubation period though. It is really nice that they include two different size egg trays, as others make you purchase pricey additional pieces. The ease of cleaning is also a bonus for the tires you inevitably end up with a rotten egg explosion 🤢 ... show more

  • It works! Successful hatch.
This was easy to setup and use. It is similar build quality to some Italian brand incubators. The size is convenient if you are familiar with the overly large styrofoam style incubators. We were successful in our hatch and achieved decent hatch rate. It functions well. At the discounted current price, this incubator is a steal compared to similar products that are three or four times the expense. ... show more
