This is an excellent garden tool it requires minimal assembly( handle and tines). I have some hard clay soil that require several passes to break the soil down. I also have a7HP Troy-Bilt Rototiller that I used at my former residence.I cultivated about a half acre of vegetables I tried the Troy at my current residence and found it to be to difficult to use in small areas. the green works unit has quite an impressive amount of torque and does a surprisingly good job of breaking up the hard soil, It does about 8 inches of the hard clay soil but that should improve after I add soil amendment . The Battery powered the unit for about 60 t0 90 minutes. I wish it would do more but that may be due to the clay soil. the unit weighs about 35 pounds and is very easy to maneuver. So far I like this machine. I will do another review after more use

I bought this to make the dirt in my garden plot more workable, after a day for trying to till it up myself with a hand hoe and just about killing myself, I wanted something easier. I looked multiple places online and knew I wanted a battery operated one. I didn’t want to deal with a gas engine, and my plot is to far from the house for a corded one. This is the only kind that was listed on multiple site’s top ten that ws battery powered, and I already have a 40v weed whacked from green works, so the battery should be interchangeable. They were, even though my current battery was 2ah and this tiller comes with a 4ah. The 4ah definitely gives more run time, but having the other smaller one is helpful as a backup. This tiller tore through the top layer of clay in my garden like it was sand. It was amazing. Even tore through quite a few raspberry root wanderers that were trying to invade. I am so happy with the amount of work I can get done without breaking my back. I then took it to my landscaping around the house- which previously was all rocks, and the previous owners left a lot of rocks in there to keep the soil loose, and this tiller still tears it up with no problem. Only once did I have a rock get stuck in just the right place and I had to get a rubber mallet to help me get the tines off and knock the rock out. Each time I stop it I’m amazed at how many roots are wrapped around the tines, but the performance doesn’t change so I have no idea they’re even there! It’s perfect size to get in between my existing plants, but still big enough to get a big job done 1000x faster than by hand. It’s great to mix up the old mulch and mix in new compost. You can also hold it in one place for a bit to dig yourself a nice loose hole for planting something. I even tore through some grassy areas to expand one landscaped area into my yard more. Assembly didn’t take long, however I never figured out what the ring pins were for, so those are being kept in the garage. I will say it is pretty heavy, but not when you’re using it, only if you want to pick it straight up out of the dirt instead of rolling it on the wheels, which I’ve had to do a few times to get over the top of some garden edging. Overall I’m extremely happy with the back breaking work I’ve been able to get done solo without the back breaking part! I need a leaf blower this season, and I’ll def get a green works one that’s compatible with my 40v batteries, such a neat system to have!

One more edit. Increased the rating to 4 stars. About a month later, the battery inexplicably started to charge again. It worked as normal through the summer. I brought the battery in from the garage over the winter, hopefully it will still charge. Greenworks finally responded a few weeks after the battery started charging. I just ignored them, the company has no value to me. The tiller itself still rocks, but CS is abysmal. **************** Edited rating from 5 stars to 2. Why? Poor customer service. I put the battery on the charger after the long winter to go tear up my garden. The battery will not charge! I have the greenworks weed wacker so I have two chargers, it will not charge on either but the battery from the weed whacker will charge on either one. It sucks but it happens. I tried calling, got a message to email them with all the information but also stayed on the line for an hour. No one responded. So I sent in the email a week ago and not a peep from them. There is a form on their website but it is broken. Luckily the battery on the weed wacker will work but lasts about half as long so I can kind of get things done. The cultivator is a beast but with such non-existent CS it becomes completely unreliable. I will just buy a third party battery that costs less than half as much as getting a replacement from greenworks and even if that lasts a year it is a much better deal. Greenworks is on my do not buy list. Once my cultivator and weed wacker die for good I will replace them with something from a better company. ***** I got it to start a garden in my backyard. I live in an area that is extremely rocky. I had been breaking it up by hand and that took too long and was back-breaking work. To give you an idea, I sifted the dirt out of the rocks in 5 gallon buckets and for each full bucket of dirt, I got 7-8 buckets of rocks. I was going to rent a tiller but was $40 an hour, I have almost broken even already by buying this little beast. I thought I might have to buy new tines after I was done but nope. They are very solid. Once a large rock got stuck between the tines and the hood, it properly shut down and after chipping it a bit it popped out and the tines were not warped. The battery lasts a decent amount of time. It is not too heavy, it could be a little wider but is not bad for my small garden. I have yet to drain the battery. The biggest complaint is the battery, it is a royal pain to remove. I give it a few light taps on each side with a rubber mallet and that helps a lot. I will have to figure out a better way to remove it. It would be nice if the cover could be locked open, that would also help make it easier to remove.

I owned a gas tiller for years, but got tired of the headaches related to ethanol gas in simple carbs- it just kills them. So, after much debate, I decided to chance this little machine. MAN what a pleasant surprise! It tills through raw lawn (grass still growing) like butter, and even kicks out rocks etc. just like my 5hp gas one did! Granted, it doesn't till as deep, but that's not a problem- I'm only trying to restart a garden about 8x8, along with cleaning up around some other areas here and there where plants/shrubs have been moved. This machine is so light I can just pick it up and carry it where I want. The tires allow it to roll, but it's quicker to just pick it up! Those same tires also seem to limit the depth of cut a little, but you could easily remove them and get a little deeper- but there's really no need. Just like any tiller will, vines and roots will bind around the tines, but a flat head screwdriver and a couple minutes of poking cures that darn quick & easy. I've owned a LOT of tools over the years, and sometimes one really does impress with its simplicity, usefulness, and ability to do the job. This little beast is one of them- enough so I ordered another for my daughter at her house.

Quality is garbage, I was satisfied with my other greenworks purchases and with the plan to stay within that brand for batteries amongst my devices. I cannot tell you how bad this product is. The battery does not seat well and will not stay in place. This is extremely frustrating having to stop every 5 seconds to push it into place. I haven't had the trouble of it shutting off due to rocks as other customers. But this issue of the battery popping out makes it unusable.

So I got this for our garden so my wife can use It's lightweight it runs for about 40 minutes maybe 45 it was a good value for the money it really have some power if you're not careful it will pull you when you go forward so I suggest you go backwards first tell when you really get into the dirt it really does a awesome job I was skeptical at first because I seen like a few videos but I don't guess people know how to use it correctly if you go backwards then when you get directly into the dirt go slowly forward make sure you have a grip on this thing here like I said it's very powerful the speed is is pretty good also again I can't stress enough that it really does a good job great for a small garden just have patience it takes about a good hour and a half to two hours and a half to charge the battery

I finally was able to use this product. It came together very easy. It is easy to use. It digged great and was very good value for the price. It gripped the dirt and made it look easy. It was easy to assemble but I do have a problem with it being loose and I can't figure out why. The power is GREAT and easy to charge the battery. What I do not like it when it is in use the battery can slip up and cut power to the machine.
