  • Natural gas heat at last! But then there’s rust..
Size: 89" Tall Color: Matte Mocha w/Table (Natural Gas)
So I looked high and low for a natural gas heater I could use in my patio this past winter. Surprisingly it was way more difficult than it should be. 99% of the equipment out there is propane and I do not want to shuttle tanks back and forth to the gas station when I have an unlimited supply at the patio. Got this heater and it was pretty nice. Assembled fairly easy and we got decent heat while sitting outdoors in the cold weather. A big negative is the rust. This sat on a covered patio with no exposure to rain whatsoever. However after 3 months of use and disassembling it to put in storage, the top of the burner is completely covered in rust. My hands were orange after handling this thing to put away in the garage. I have doubts that this will last another 2 years. Maybe last next year but after that? Probably not… ... show more

  • Great Value
I ordered 2 units which both arrived well boxed, all the washers, nuts, etc were properly identified per the instructions and accounted for. They supply a disposable wrench that I did not use. Note,, I live in helena montana where we do get some 40+ wind speeds on ocassion, and of course- SNOW! I reviewed the instructions for assembly process after reading reviews on other units- well let's just say there are some upset people out there! But these instructions were spot on starting with filling the sand base first!!! Details: 1- sand base, found using a small container to place small amounts of sand into the fill hole worked nicely. You need to continue to shake the plastic base sideways to distribute the sand, then you will finally need to force the sand to the sides to get the unit completely filled. With our sometime high winds, I need as much weight as possible on this thing! If this wasn't enough weight, there is plenty of room inside the cylinder base to add a round stepping stone and set the propane tank on it if needed. 2- the powder coating is well done but be aware, not as "silver" as they say but of a darker gray color- not a problem for me but be aware!!!! I have bought powder coated items before and one thing that always caused a problem is the bolts would not go in due to powder coating into the thread are!!!!!! Had to tap the holes just to assemble- NOT HERE! everything threaded nice and smooth, not one problem- THANK YOU! 3- Reflector, I assembled the reflector and placed it on the heating element BEFORE placing the head on the top pole, this does two things- 1, you won't now need a ladder 2- when leveling the heater head and tightening the 4 supporting bolts, it is very easy to tell when the head is tightened in place nice and true and not crooked. Well besides the time it took to remove the blue protective film off the reflector pieces(ugh!) and the filling of the sand base, this unit was assembled in ~25 minutes,,, taking my time too. Very easy. Test! Wheeled one unit to my cigar smoking firepit area and fired it up to see how this thing performed. Temp was ~48 degrees with very slight wind. Took a bit for the propane to bleed thru the line while holding the pilot light gas knob down but once purged lit nicely. There a 6 red dot settings that I mention but the adjustment of the heat is a smooth dial rotation. I mention the dots for ref to my setting. Once on, I adjusted it thru the full range and after experiencing the high setting, I had the adjust it down to the low 2 dot level- wow! This thing cranks out the heat!!! I was sitting down with a very light fiber coat and this thing at setting 2 was really nice! I was sitting ~4 feet away from the heater. I tried several other seats around the firepit and it was comfortable. Note, my propane firepit is just like the other out there, it is great to look at but the heating is a joke,,, anyway- the supplied cover is ok, but I invested into real quality covers, I figured that I saved so much on these units and want them to last- quality covers will add years to their lives. Overall, the units outperform everything I thought with excellent heating, simple controls and NO BATTERIES!!! This cold here EATS batteries alive!!!!!!! I looked lots of units and read many a review- these things are impressive, look great for under $200? They have stainless steel where it counts down to the bolts. I did take my security a step further, I bought some large "eye bolts" that I am going to screw them into the side of the house and attaching these super heavy duty velcro units for $6 at home depot called 36"hangalls made by husky. They have a clip ring for the eyebolt and nice velcro. for quick release when need but full adjustable to hold the unit in place from our winds. The 36" adjustable velcro strip allows for the reflector size as I place the strap ~half way around the pole as you seat it against the house. Small price to pay for ensuring these things last! ... show more

  • Awesome product!
Size: 89" Tall Color: Matte Mocha w/Table (Natural Gas)
This outdoor heater is extremely well constructed. The fit and finish is excellent. No sheet metal screws or plastic parts (except the sand/water reservoir which is intended to flex). I am very happy with this purchase, and would buy it again. I needed a few extra tools to assemble the heater. There is a "wrench" supplied, but you will need two wrenches, or a socket set and a wrench, to securely tighten the bolts. I also used pliers and a phillips head screwdriver. So gather some tools... Also, be sure to purge the air from the unit per the instructions. A full 2 minutes. I know, it seems wasteful. But I tried stopping as soon as I smelt gas, and had problems lighting the unit. Once I followed the instructions, the heater lit without a problem. I wonder why I had to pay more for natural gas than for a propane unit. NG does not require a regulator, just a larger hole in the orifice. So why did I pay more for less? (BTW - I am storing an extra propane bottle in the base of the heater, which adds balast and is very handy...) The heat reflector gets very hot. I was checking to see how much heat my awning was going to have to withstand. (Not much...) I accidentally touched the reflector and suffered a second degree burn. Be careful! I tried moving the unit while on. The tilt detection works! :-) I connected a 3/8" female to quick connect (male) hose to the provided 3' hose to allow increased mobility. The base can be used to store the coiled hose... I'm a happy camper! Cheers... ... show more

  • Works well
Overall this heater works quite well. During 20 degree days you have to be pretty close to it to stay comfortable but I'm sure as it gets warmer it will be better. The manual does recommend using at 40ish degrees so we are happy with it.

  • East to assemble and looks great
Size: 89" Tall Color: Matte Black w/Table (Natural Gas)
Assembly was a breeze, with all parts and clear visual instructions. I did need a Philips screwdriver and a single AAA battery, but that’s it. Took inside of an hour to assemble by one person. Connected the hose, turned it on for 90 seconds to get the gas flowing through the 18-ft natural gas hose (separate) that I connected and it fired up first try. It looks great — we have a powered coated pergola and this matches perfectly. Puts out a compelling amount of heat. I’m sitting 6 feet away, it’s 50 degrees outside and the unit is on max, and as I type this I am warm and comfortable. Just now my wife said “I can feel the warmth when I walk by” — from 15 feet away. As someone over 6 feet tall I appreciate that it’s high enough that I’m not going to bump into it. ... show more
