Great whole-house solution for hard water. Softens water effectively for showers, appliances, and plumbing, plus built-in filtration reduces chlorine, sediment, and odors without filter swaps. 30,000-grain capacity handles up to 6 people. WiFi app delivers flow alerts, low-salt notifications, leak detection potential, and Vacation Mode. Quiet, efficient regeneration and easy salt fill. I added the GE remote water kill option so I can remotly shutdown the water supply in case of a leak. Installation was straightforward for the plumber (bypass included), water feels noticeably softer with less scale and better skin/hair. Minor note: Newer model, so long-term durability is not known. The installation of this GE water softener was fairly easy, but be sure to check the measurements of the space where you plan to install it before ordering. This unit is larger than our previous water softener, but fortunately, we had sufficient space for it. One thing to note is that it doesn’t include the GE water softener remote shutoff valve, so if you want that feature, you’ll need to purchase it separately before installation. Regrettably, we did not order it, and I feel like it's something that should have already come with the unit. Hooking up the Wi-Fi is easy, but you do need to download the Smart HQ app to use it. However, you can still manually select options directly on the water softener itself, so even if you’re not tech-savvy or don’t want to use the app, you still have full access to the machine’s features. I really like the Wi-Fi capabilities. I can check the flow rates (it shows any running water in the house), monitor salt life (alerts when salt is low), and view charts of overall water usage (there’s a calendar where you can view specific dates if desired). The vacation mode is also handy. Sadly, I get an error code when I try to access the mode feature on the app. I’m not entirely sure why, but it might be because I don’t have the remote shutoff valve. Everything was installed properly, so it's a mystery. Ironically, the mode feature works perfectly fine on the water softener itself. Other nice features include a digital display to view stats, the ability to change modes directly on the machine, and the self-clean function, which helps reduce sediment buildup on the bottom. The water quality is noticeably better. It tastes better and is much softer than before. My skin doesn’t feel irritated after showers, and my clothes no longer feel itchy or rough. This is definitely an upgrade from our old water softener, which was long overdue for replacement. The previous unit was disgusting. We noticed a lot of sludge sitting at the bottom, which made me all the more grateful for this one. This GE water softener has made a world of difference in our home! I am very happy with it. This is a good selection for a 2 or 3-person household. The installation is simple, but the paper manual supplied is lacking; it only really covers basic installation, and not wi-fi setup or some of the more advanced features. The only real complication I had with the setup was the fact that the inlet and outlet were reversed from my old unit. The resulting softened water is, as expected, and the taste of the water does not seem to be impacted in a negative way. It also does not impact water pressure, which was still good. The app is a little basic; it shows water usage and notifies you when more salt needs adding. When you do add salt, you have to use the control panel to set the new level, which is a bit of a pain. ... show more

This water softener is wonderful. Works well and connects to an app that keeps you up to date on what is happening with the softener and reminders when you need to add salt which has always been my biggest fault with softeners. I live in Las Vegas where you almost need a hard hat to shower so this has been a lifesaver in our new house. Shampoo is lathering instead of barely spreading around part of your head and my hair feels better overall. Installation seemed pretty easy, since I had my husband do it, but he did need to look at more instructions online than what they provided and it took some work. I would expect that this is normal when you didn’t have a water softener in the home in the first place. Very happy with the results in the water, as well as our hair and skin. ... show more

I have never owned a water softener before; this is my first one. The difference it makes is amazing! Soap lathers better, Shampoo rinses out better, Dishes and laundry are cleaned more easily and have less or no residue on them. Even coffee tastes better! This unit is a beast though, it's large, and has plenty of capacity for my entire home! It holds more salt than I ever wanted to carry downstairs to fill it. The Wifi app works well and knowing the salt level is handy. I haven't tied the vacation mode or the shutoff but it's nice to know those are options. I'm taking away one star because installation was not easy. I've installed a hot water heater before, but this was more challenging. The valves were backwards from what I expected, and it took a while to find the manual and figure that out. In the end, I broke down and hired a plumber to install it. I'm glad I did because you have to install this softener level on a flat surface, and we had to get creative to get the pipes lined up and make it all happy. Overall, I'm happy and feel that it was a good value; it hasn't leaked at all, and I'd recommend it to everyone with hard water. ... show more
