    • Nearly impossible to replace filter
I have been using this filter for years because it's the only one I've found that is easy to install in my particular shower configuration, and yes it is sturdy. There is a big downside, however. The filter needs to be changed periodically. The exterior surface is very slick, and it's nearly impossible to unscrew the casing to replace the filter. I simply cannot do it. And, I actually have taken one of these filters back to the hardware store where I had bought that one, and it took 2 different guys with bigger and stronger hands than mine to finally unscrew it. I have given up and am now replacing the whole unit instead of of fighting to replace the filter. I know it's a really bad solution and is wasteful, but I need the chlorine out of my water. I have complained to GE about this before and received no reply. The company could fix this problem easily by adding some grooves into the outer casing, so there would be something to grip onto, in order to unscrew it. I would gladly switch brands if I could find a better design that would fit my shower, and I have tried, to no avail. ... show more

I bought this product because I moved into an apartment that has hard water that was literally killing my hair. My hair would be left a tangled, greasy, just disgusting mess. These filters make an incredible difference in our shower water. I've been using these filters for 6 months now. I had a water test done on our well water and it is extremely hard, with high levels of iron, magnesium and silica. If I wash my hair with it, it is a stiff tangly mess. It is somehow dry and oily at the same time, and feels heavy?? It is so odd. This filter makes a SIGNIFICANT difference in our hard water. I almost couldn't believe it. I replace the unit about every 4 months; it will start to get clogged from the iron debris. When I popped it open to see what it filtered I was stunned.
