I had a hinge type, solar powered chicken door for years. It did the job but developed play in the hinge / drive mechanism. It was also subject to blockage when the chickens kicked up rocks into the door frame. I like the direct, up/down gear drive and multiple power options of this door. I have 120 v power in the coop, so I hard wired the door. My old door opened and closed automatically at dawn / dusk --- no programming, but the closing time was later than I preferred. I like the fact that this door can be programmed to operate in different light conditions and is not subject to blockage as for my old chicken door.

I don't usually leave reviews but this product has beaten my expectations and I love my hens! I was a little worried about buying it with no reviews but it seemed and is legit. I replaced my old chicken coop door with this farmlite one and I'm loving it, I set it up to open at dawn and close when the sun is setting, the light sensor seems to be able to sense the light pretty well, a few days in and it's working great so far. I would suggest keeping an eye on the door and adjust the light sensor settings to your preference the first couple of days. It comes with a battery pack but I would rather not have to replace batteries every few weeks so I ran a power cord to the inside of the coop and drilled a hole through the chicken coop right next to the door to put the power on the inside of the coop where it's protected. I plan on switching to a solar setup in the future though. I was able to successfully register the warranty on their site as well which is nice to know if something happens.

I’m really excited about this automatic coop door, wish I would’ve discovered it sooner! Love how it can be powered by battery, plug in or solar. The seller was great, answered all my questions and was very prompt at responding. I’m going to test out battery option first and get the items I need for solar power.
