I just purchased this machine [along with a can of WD 40] and I have to say, it's great and a great price! [I purchased it from Amazon, so I didn't have to pay the shipping, which would of cost me around $60.00] ***[Update 01/17/2013] Someone commented and suggested that WD40 is more of a temporary fix, so look into buying some lubrication other than this :) Assembling: Putting it together took me 3 hours [I was working alone]. The instructions SUCKED, I probably could of been done faster if the manual was done better. Storage: The machine is pretty compact, I use it in my living room and just slide it in the corner afterwards. Noise: I haven't had any issues with noise with this machine, most likely because I used the WD40 on it. Also, it doesn't make noise on the floor [I live in a 2 story 2 family home on the 2nd floor and it doesn't make noise downstairs for my neighbors]. Experience: I am a 28 year old woman, 5'7 and 225 pounds at a size 16. I brought this machine to slim down and start a healthy lifestyle. First off, this machine [according to the book I got inside], will hold up to 300 pounds. It's sturdy [doesn't wobble while using it] and gave me one heck of a workout. I tried it out the first time for 30 minutes and I was dripping in sweat afterward even though my ac was on full blast. This machine WORKS you out! My suggestions: You should definitely buy a can of WD40 with your purchase or from any store that carries it. SPRAY all the parts even though they're already greased, especially the tension wire [while you're assembling it]. I had issues the first time with the tension wire [even though the resistance was on 1, it felt like it was on 100!]. A good lubrication with the WD40 did the trick. Also, I sprayed inside the triangular silver part [where the pedals are] with the WD40 and everything smoothed out. I love this machine and I'm glad that I invested in it. With this machine, a change in my eating habits and consistency, I know that I will reach my fitness goals! --------------------- 2 month update The machine is still doing great, and I know it's because of the weekly sprays with the WD 40. I use it 4 times a week for about 30 minutes to an hour and I'm down 22 pounds :) Maintenance is KEY everyone, PLEASE spray the parts, you'll get a better workout that way! ---------------------- Update: 12-15-2012 The machine is still going strong :) I'm have now lost a total of 37 pounds. NONE of the parts are breaking, no strange noises and I KNOW it's because I lube it up and clean it. It's like a car, if you don't give it an oil change, it's not gonna perform that great, so I continue to spray with the WD 40. Some where still having questions about the machine still being too tough, so let me explain a little more what I do: 1. I shake up the WD40 can and spray inside the silver triangle part [where the pedals are, I spray the tension wire [I unscrew the knob loose, spray inside where the cord is], and I spray all the flexible metal parts/joints [I don't know how else to describe it - I'll post a video review or something showing the places where I spray the WD40 in a day or two] 2. I jump on the machine and pedal for a minute or two [to make sure the oil gets inside the parts], jump off and wait about 30 minutes [so the parts loosen up. Then I get back on and do my workout. After my workout, I clean it down with some wipes [removing sweat, dust...] and slide it back in the corner. ***I figure that the machines are sitting in some warehouse for months, years even, so it would make sense that the parts are tough when you first assemble it and use it. Mine was tough for a whole week before it loosen, and for that first week, I sprayed every day and used it every day. So, I figure that consistent use and spraying will help fix the issue. I dunno, hope this helps someone :) If anyone has anymore questions about this machine, let me know :) **** I tried to upload a short 1 minute video showing exactly where I spray the machine, but the file is 'too large' [sighs]... I'll try some other time... Update - [1/30/2013] Hey everyone, just adding an update and answering some more questions: Well, for my weight, I am now at 178, bringing my overall weight loss so far to 47 pounds. I'm at a size 10 :) **I will tell the truth - around the end of December I started stalling [the weight wasn't coming off as fast as is was in the beginning - which is usually the case for most people]. I did continue using the elliptical, but I also added in some other exercises [for upper body, especially my arms]. I have HUGE arms [they're like thighs on my arms, lol] and I had to do A LOT of arm exercises [pushups, dumbbells...], to shed that extra fat that remained as I began to lose weight. I also go jogging when the weather is nice here in Long Island, NY and get some fresh air. I think switching up your routine will not only get you out of a weight loss stall but also give you variety, which will keep you from getting bored easily. ******I also wanted to encourage anyone who is on their own healthy living/ weight loss journey to keep going! Weight loss is something YOU have to decide to do for YOURSELF. Trust me, it's HARD WORK, a combination of eating right and moving your body but YOU CAN DO IT! It might take you awhile to get use to a routine that works for YOU but once you do, go hard, go strong! It's NEVER too late to start taking care of yourself! Some tips: 1. Take pics, maybe once a month or a before, middle and after pic to see where you've come from - This REALLY motivated me to keep going - People were telling me that I was losing weight, but I didn't see it until I looked back at pics I took of myself before - what a shock that was! 2. If you're someone who obsesses over numbers on the scale, do weekly, or bi-weekly weight ins. Sometimes checking everyday is discouraging [even though you're losing inches]. I weigh myself on Sundays in the mornings as soon as I get up. 3. Buy yourself some goal clothes and document the improvements - For example - I brought a pair of size 8 jeans. When I first started, I took a pic and the jeans could only get up to my ankles -lol-. The next pics showed the jeans going up ever so slowly. I can now get them on [but their still tight], but what a change from where I started! So buy a goal dress, pants, bathing suit [summer will be here before we know it] whatever you want! 4. Try different foods so you won't get bored. Please don't stick to 1 food that you eat, try new healthier things. 5. Once you develop self control, treat yourself to a snack here and there. If you want a bag of chips, have SOME [not ALL - lol]. Or even, buy those portion sized snacks they sell here on amazon [I buy crasains, mixed nuts, popcorn....] ****Small update - 2-22-2013 - Knee concerns: If you have any kind of knee issues, you should research which type of elliptical machine is best [so you won't hurt/injure/irritate your knees]. My mom came over for a couple of days and attempted to use the machine, but was having knee problems with it.... There are different types of elliptical machines [rear drive, front drive and center drive] and they all have different slopes. This elliptical machine slope is more slanted then the ones she's use to using at LA Fitness, so this one caused her some pain. So I would HIGHLY recommend that if you have any kind of knee problems that you talk to your doctor or a trainer and ask them what type of elliptical would be best for your delicate knees :) ... show more

  • Best option for price, but there are small inconviences.

I did a lot of research when deciding to buy an exercise machine. I was really disappointed when I found that at home treadmills would either cost me an arm and a spleen OR be utter crap. I spoke with some doctors and since I have a slight knee injury, an elliptical seemed fitting. I looked at the reviews on Amazon and this one seemed to not only fit my price range, but had the best reviews. I was really impressed that such an affordable machine could be so highly regarded. I read review after review and saw that this machine was the best. I read wonderful success stories, and since I recently began a new fitness life, I was eager to jump on this bandwagon. Assembly: When I first got this, I was really impressed that it all came in such a great package- the box came in great shape and everything was wonderfully packaged. The assembly itself was basically a nightmare. It took about 2 hours total with 2 people. There were nuts and bolts everywhere and the kit only gave you really tiny tools to assemble this by hand. My fiance and I decided that we were going to use our own tools and it seemed to go a lot after. We found that having a socket wrench was the most helpful. Use: After reading tons, tons and TONS of reviews... I ran out during assembly to get a bottle of WD40. The parts were lubricated, but you can tell that without upkeep and regular maintenance, this machine will have problems. Before Use, I make sure to spray the pedals prior to every workout. I also would recommend regularly spraying the tension rod on the inside, but that takes time, so you don't need to do it but a few times a year. I have had this machine for over a month and I use it 2-3 times a week. My workouts are typically only 20 minutes (I am working up to longer). I have the tension on the lowest setting because I want to be able to go faster. If you are looking for a more intense workout, you can easily adjust the tension rod and get more resistance. Overall, I never feel uncomfortable on the machine and I am 5'2. It fits me perfect. However, if you have a knee injury- I would recommend using a knee brace to help with support. Results: In the past 45 days, I have used this machine along with My Fitness Pal and a pedometer app. I have officially lost 12.5 pounds today. I also walk and dance during the week, so my weight loss is not only from this machine. However, I am very pleased with this machine. I have it set up in the privacy of my own home and I am able to watch TV or listen to music without feeling uncomfortable. I have also set up a fan close to the machine that helps. I am confident that I will use this machine for a long time to keep up the weight loss. When I get to a comfortable weight, I plan on turning up the resistance a bit. Right now I am focusing my workouts on distance, heart rate and steps. I am really excited about the results and for the first time, I feel excited about getting on the scale. What you should know and issues I've had with this item: The only, truly only, vice with this product is the computer/data. I don't really trust any of the information it says. The speed is constantly in flux from 6.9 to 9.9 mph even if I am going the exact same speed without changing my rhythm. I can't get it go to past 9.9 mph. I also am frustrated because my pedometer app says that I am going only 2.0 mph. I don't know if the distance setting is correct- it says I go about 2-3 miles per workout, which in 18 minutes is possible. The calories burned is definitely wrong. I went to Livestrong.com and found a calculation based on your own current body weight x the type of workout x the time you spend working out. I discovered after researching weight loss that the smaller you are, the less calories you will burn and the longer you will have to work out to get the same results as before. So a 160 lb individual will burn more calories than a 120 individual doing the same amount of workout JUST because they have more mass. So, I have had to increase my workouts every time, pushing myself at least 30 seconds to 2 minutes more to accommodate for my weight loss. Here are the calculations I use from livestrong.com: light workout: .06 x your body weight= calories burned per minute. Calories per minute x time working out= total calories burned Moderate workout .075 x body weight= calories per minute. Calories per minute x time working out = total calories burned. Vigorous workout .091 x body weight= calories per minute. Calories per minute x time working out = total calories burned. The Machine always has some ridiculously low number like "50 calories burned" when I work out for 18 minutes. I don't know about you, but If I worked out for 18 minutes and only burned 50 calories... I'd be disappointed. I'm dripping with sweat and basically about to fall over... so 50 calories doesn't work for me. I've been using these calculations every time I work out and I have had no problems. I enter my workouts into myfitnesspal and it has yielded great results. The heart rate monitor I don't trust either. One minute my heart rate is up to 130, the next time I check later on, I am down to 70. Basically the only thing I trust on the computer settings is the Time. The steps, speed, calories and distance I track with my calculations or my pedometer app on my iphone. Overall: After owning this for 45 days, I don't regret my decision at all. I love being able to work out from the comfort and privacy of my own home- whenever I want. I don't have to worry about MRSA, sharing equipment, lines, seeing someone I know or paying the same amount for only a year at a gym. I am really glad I bought the warranty and I would recommend it to anyone who gets a machine. There are a few vices with this particular model, but I have found my own simple ways to solve the problems. I am pleased with the mobility of this equipment and it doesn't take up much room. My fiance who is 6 FT and over 200 lbs uses the machine occasionally when it is raining or he can't go outside to run, but I expect him to start using it more this winter. I will post updates if we run into any hiccups when it is being used more than 2-3 times a week. ... show more
