  • Sounds like a an SM58 when you don't touch it
Style: 15' XLR-XLR Cable
I've been using this mic for a few weeks now and it sounds great. Another band member has a SM58 and the two are very similar. For a while we were running the output of our mixer though a peavey bandit 65 and couldn't hear a difference between the two. Our new PA just showed up and now we can tell the difference, the PGA58 pick up all the mic stand noise while the SM58 rejects most of it, though once the drums and guitars kicked in the thumps and bumps couldn't be heard. All in all, for my vocal quality and my ear the difference between the two is that once you have a PA with good bass the difference sounds like a built in shock mount on the SM58. ... show more

  • Excellent Mic
Style: No Cable
I bought PGA58 after a long consideration to buy XM8500. It is an excellent mic for the price. The sound quality is excellent for singing voice both male and female. Handling noise is a problem. So, if you put it on mic stand then all is good. Extra pop filter helps if you sing from less than 4 inches. If you move to 6-7 inches then it works fine without a pop filter. Sound is very smooth and brings out the details of voice when singing. I gave 4 stars because of handling noise. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars. ... show more

  • Best microphone in this price range
Style: 15' XLR-XLR Cable
I was pleasantly surprised once I started singing into this microphone. I was expecting something similar to the pg 48 model since it was in the price range. I could hear a broad range of frequencies and will you barely touched the settings on the border. As far as longevity goes, we'll have to wait until a little farther down the road. As for now I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. Also the fact that the microphone is completely black ads to the slickness and make the microphone look 1000 times better than the old grey. ... show more

  • Mic for my wedding! Great mic!
Style: No Cable
I purchased this mic to use for my wedding in June. It was an outdoor wedding, so we also purchased the Shure A58WS-BLK Foam Windscreen to try to preserve the speech/audio quality. I am not, by any means, a sound tech or audio guru, but the voice dialogue quality we got out of this mic was fantastic for our wedding. I cannot speak for its quality in use as a singing mic, or for bands though. Pros: -The range on the mic was good. It did not need to be at your lips to pick up speech. -The range of angle that the mic could pick up speech is great too. You did not need to have it pointed directly at your mouth to get quality output. -It feels like a quality product. It feels solid and sturdy. The on/off switch doesn't feel fragile. The metal mesh protecting the mic is sturdy and quality. I can't comment on the long term durability, because we only used it for the practice, wedding, and reception. We had a cheap mic (one that comes with PA speakers) but the quality of this compared to that is night and day. LOADS better. Con: -I don't really have any cons. If I had to say anything, it would be that with the windscreen ball, the mic is pretty large. It would not be ideal for a discreet mic in a situation where the mic might be in front of someones face during video or photos. • A great mic for taking abuse
Style: 15' XLR-XLR Cable
This thing is built like a tank and performs well for the price. Just like it's more expensive cousin (the SM58), it is solidly made. Spoken word is crisp and clear and if you're using it for that, it's wonderful. For performance vocals, it falls a bit flat but is still a viable cheap option for a durable beater mic. It's not winning any awards for frequency response, but at this price point, I would not expect it to. Signal strength is a little low, but within the ballpark of other dynamic mics I have. Overall, for a budget microphone that will last on the road, this is a great option for the price. ... show more

  • Performs as expected
Style: 15' XLR-QTR Cable
For me this is an adequate practice microphone. Especially like that it has an on/off switch. I use an old guitar amp for practice pa system and have had no issues with the microphone used through this amp; as a matter of fact, some of the amp effects can be used to modify voice. The microphone seems well made and well worth the price, I paid about $50. ... show more

Style: 15' XLR-XLR Cable
The mic itself is great quality and comes with a holder to mount to a stand as well as a carrying pouch. The included XLR cable is thin and underwhelming. Future buyers, I'd skip the version with the included XLR cable and get a Monoprice cable.
