This tool is invaluable in my kitchen. I owned one previously, which failed after some years of service. I assumed its batteries had died and sought replacements. When I attempted to buy batteries for the non-working unit, I found I could buy this new and improved (specs) version for slightly less than new batteries for the old one. And of course it would come with brand new batteries. This unit has a wider range of temperatures, and therefore even more utility than its predecessor. No brainer there. It came quickly and I am so pleased to have the function back again. Note that IR doesn't penetrate the surface, so I have a (cheap) tool for checking the inside temp when I cook meats or something that one needs to know the internal temperature of. This Etekcity infrared thermometer has been a really helpful gadget in my kitchen. It is affordable, simple to use, and so far it seems accurate for what I need, especially for checking oven and pan temperatures. I like being able to point, click, and get a quick reading instead of guessing or risking burning myself trying to check heat by hand. It has also been useful for things like griddles and reheating leftovers, just to make sure everything is warmed up properly. The laser makes it easy to aim, and the display is clear enough to read at a glance, even when I am juggling kids and dinner at the same time. Works pretty good for an infrared thermometer. Easy enough to understand how to use. Battery has lasted quite some time. I believe it is fairly accurate. It's sturdy and built well. And you do get a reading pretty quickly.

I bought this for using with my griddle. I needed to know when it finally hits 500 degrees. As this is my first of these items I don’t have anything to compare it to. All I know is that I should have bought this as soon as I got my new griddle. First off, this thing is fast! Just press the trigger and within 2 seconds you have the temperature. I cannot vouch for accuracy since, like I said, I have nothing to compare it with. But I am more than happy with it. All I know is that my steaks and burgers come out perfect. Secondly, and this goes along with the fast aspect of the temp gun, I get readings from the different areas very quickly! As soon as the red dot rests on an area , boom, there’s the temperature. I was actually surprised at the different areas and ranges in temperature across the griddle. That little bit of extra information drastically changes the outcome of the foods. I can see how much of the surface area is just right for super grilling, and where to put the steaks to rest on the grill to keep them warm. The display is very easy to read. Typically I have to use my glasses to see most displays. But this one has the amount of size and background that makes it easier to read, without the need for glasses. ... show more
