  • Happy with product.
Easy to assemble and use. I did find it difficult to push branches past the rubber safety barrier at the top, so I removed it. I was careful to cover the top to prevent bits flying out. Unless you have very narrow arms and 12 “ hands it is safe. But this is an unauthorized mod. Happy with product.

  • Light duty wood chipper
Assembly of this wood chipper is pretty easy and take almost no time at all. It is pretty light weight and you can move it around pretty easily. As far as safety it does have a few nice features. The first being if you have the front cover off of the unit it will not start up until it's reattached and screwed back down. It also has the rubber flaps that cover the opening where you stick debris and the openings are restricted so it's harder to get any appendages in there. Lastly it does have a auto cut off if a stick gets stuck. This leads into the issues though I've had with it. In the displayed info they claim that this machine can mulch a 1.57 diameter limb/stick but I've found that to not be the case. It seems to struggle with mulching a 1" limb/stick. I experienced several times when the machine halted because the stick would jam up in the blades. It doesn't seem to matter either if the wood is bone dry and pretty weak or if it's brand new wood. Which this leads me to my next point. The machine seems to have two speed settings. You can't manually select the speed setting and this might be what causes the blades to get jammed. If you could get the chipper to spin up to the higher speed first and then put in your larger diameter debris I suspect I wouldn't have as many jams as I did. Most wood I did try in the machine did break down with no issues. This machine does struggle with black locust wood though. It does make a very fine mulch so if your looking for something chunkier this isn't the machine. Idle noise isn't too bad either it's definitely manageable. After running this constantly for a while I did not notice any overheating issues. One think to note that the description doesn't mention is that this has a brushed motor for anyone who cares. I would give this three and a half stars if it would let me. Overall it's an okay chipper but only for light duty work. ... show more

  • While it has some size limitations, it performs well.
Given that this is a rather light weight appliance I shouldn't be at all disappointed, but I am a little. I live in south Florida and am constantly dealing with various palm fronds. Unfortunately, many of them are just a little too big for this device. It has no issues grinding up the branch but even though the leaves aren't particularly hard (not wooden like the branch) they have a fan pattern at the leaf that makes it too fat to fit in the port. Many of the others have the sheath that was around the tree branch. Again, these are not firm, just too bulky (circular in this case) to fit into the port. So basically, I am going to still have to cut the ends off on most fronds, so I don't get a lot of reduction. I also tried it on several dead branches in excess of an inch without issue except where a branch might have a number of smaller branches joining it. These joints again make the branch too big to fit into the chipper, even though the actual load would have been less than an inch. In any case I think there is enough utility with this product to save me some yard waste bags in the future. Assembly was easy. Watch the video. It has a small footprint, so it doesn't take up too much space in the garage. ... show more

  • Convenient Light Duty Performance for the DIY Homeowner Gardener
Seyvum’s Electric Wood Chiper is the fourth product I’ve ordered from the company, two of which are 20V garden tools and the other their 20V impact driver. In each case, my opinion is that their products offer outstanding value and utility for the DIY homeowner. As delivered, the Wood Chipper requires some light assembly, with all of the tools necessary to do so included in the kit. Also supplied is a plastic push stick and collection bag. Altogether, a careful, thoughtful assembly took about 15-minutes. Two assembly tools are included, one a dual sided allen wrench/Phillips head screwdriver and the other a smaller allen wrench; the smaller one is used in the center hole of the wheel axel to provide counter-leverage when threading the wheel bolts into the axel. Built in hooks on each side of the chipper hold the collection bag. Seyvum supplies he chipper with a unique two-sided blade that can be reversed when the first side becomes dull. According to the seller, when both sides become dull the blade will need to be replaced; apparently it can’t be sharpened. Located on the top rear of the main body of the chipper, just in front of it’s handle, is a knob used to access the blade assembly; loosen the knob and pull the front cover forward. I didn’t find replacement blades offered in Seyvum’s Amazon Store; however, my impression is that the Wood Chipper is a new product and they’ll surely be along in due time. Power is supplied to the chipper via a user provided extension cord that’s connected to its short, two tine pigtail. I prefer supplying my own extension cord to dealing with a long, wired power cord that’s permanently attached to the chipper; in my opinion, an easily disconnected extension cord lends itself to more convenient mobility and storage. As it is, between its 7” wheels and built-in handle, the chipper is easily moved around the yard. The Seyvum Wood Chipper is thoughtfully designed and built for safety. The feeding chute is covered with stiff rubber flaps that prevent debris from flying back out of the machine and serve as a safety boundary for hands. In addition, the provided push stick allows garden detritus to be fed into the chipper, keeping the hands further away from the feed chute, while the evacuated mulch is fed directly into the collection bag. The wood chipper isn’t self-feeding, so it’s required that manually push branches, brush and debris into and through the blades. Powered up, prior to feeding the Wood Chipper, it’s relatively quiet, making only the typical whir of an electric motor. Even while being fed and cutting, it’s not particularly noisy; no ear protection is required. Although the seller states that the chipper will grind branches and such up to 1.5” in diameter, in our yard, I’m mulching mainly small palm fronds, leaves and other small branches, nothing that amounted to a diameter of 1.5”, so I can’t comment on that claim. Of course, for those that have a need to chip branches of that size, there’s very likely to be a performance difference between soft and hard woods. Overall, to the extent my experience suggests, my impression is of a light-duty machine for softer materials. Here in So. Cal. we’re required to separate our trash into three separate bins, one for recyclable items, another for non-recyclable trash and one for organic matter, like garden detritus and food matter. As such, the main benefit to me of the Seyvum Wood Chipper is that it allows more room and efficient use of the limited space of the organic bin; in other words, I can get more in it by running the garden waste through the chipper. However, the downside is that it takes much more time to put everything through the chipper than simply picking it up and tossing it in the bin. Because it’s not self-feeding, chipping isn’t a particularly fast operation. It’s then a matter of priorities, if I don’t need the space, I’m not likely to bother chipping everything up. On the other hand, it can be useful for creating garden mulch, but since we don’t have cold winters here, mulch isn’t really a need around here. In the end my impressions of the wood chipper is of a light duty, home gardeners’ machine, for those that may need mulch or a more efficient use of space for their garden trash. Since it’s not self-feeding, it takes patience to use; each batch of brush needs to be pushed down into the blades and followed through with the pusher. I’ve found any reason to criticize the machine or the sellers’ description; however, I would suggest to any potential buyer to align their expectations and needs to the capabilities of the chipper. ... show more

  • Awesome addition for landscaping!
Work nicely. Chips I salmon berries just fine. It even likes elder berries, alder. Just about anything under 1 1/2 inches around. Made huge pile of brush gone into small chips in about 10 minutes. Easy to assemble and use. Also easy to clean & moving around with the wheels. Over all the chipper is assembled quit well. Definitely worth the purchase. ... show more
