This is my FAVORITE bedding for our chicken coop and brooder. We do the deep litter method and it literally never smells. I just cleaned our coop out yesterday after 6 months of deep litter method and it had no smell to it (although I do wear a N95 when cleaning out and wet down the litter before I remove). I also noticed there are never any bugs in my coop, maybe my chickens eat them or maybe it’s the Saturday Lime I use monthly. I honestly cannot recommend this product enough, it is superior to all bedding I have ever used, low dust, literally absorbs all moisture, no smell, happy chickens! Only thing is that I wish they carried it at tractor supply or rural king locally. Shipping does take a bit.

I have always used large flake pine shavings in my coop and use the deep bedding method (complete clean out every Spring and Fall, otherwise just add shavings as needed). The pine shavings work great, but the dust from them is ridiculous, chickens kick up enough dander on their own. I started looking around for alternatives and found this and on their website they offer 50% off your first order, sold! I got 1 of the big starter bundles which came with 3 bags of bedding, black soldier fly larva, and hemp seeds. I ordered a few more bags from Amazon (same great price) and did my coop clean out for the Fall. Let me tell you about all the dust there ISN'T! It's amazing! It's also very absorbent! I'll never use pine shavings again!

I wouldn't buy this brand continually because of how expensive it is for a small-ish bag; we used it as more of a tester bag because we've never tried Hemp before. We've tried a LOT of different beddings for our 3 guinea pigs... aspen, fleece, GuineaDad liners, pine, paper, practically EVERYTHING. But now I think we've finally settled on something! Hemp is unbelievable... it has a nice, pleasant smell to it, but other than that it is pretty scentless. Although it isn't as fluffy as something per-say like pine, it definitely didn't seem uncomfortable. Just add a bit of soft hay like orchard for them to lounge in and snack on and its quite comfortable. Usually, with pine (which has become a problem because of the dust) we clean the cage about every 4-5 days because it stinks up the whole room. But with this, we had it in for 7 and a half days before we cleaned it... and it still didn't stink! We only cleaned it because of the amount of turds. 😆 The bag had absolutely no dust in it, and our only problem was that for the first couple days the pigs started trying to eat a bunch of it, and its supposed to have a very unpleasant taste?? But they stopped after a couple days, so it was fine! 1 bag covered our 10 sq ft cage with a bit left over. Would totally recommend Hemp, but would stick with another brand since its cheaper to buy in bulk.

I dusted half the light to show how much dust this bedding is with chickens. I had to move my brooder out of my room because I dusted in the morning and by afternoon a layer of dust was right back. I like the hemp bedding for how it absorbs moist better than pine shavings, and is cleaner with poop, but oh my the dust is so bad! Idk how people can say it’s dust free?! What are they doing that I’m not? It’s getting so dusty even after dusting where I can barely breather in the coop if the chicken move around, which I know is bad for them too so if I can’t figure out how to magically make this dust free like others it looks like I’ll have to be going back to pine shavings.
