    • This is what a "stick vacuum" should be
Let me start by saying that we had a Samsung Jet stick vacuum before getting this Motorbar by Dyson. The Samsung worked well and did it's job. Nothing super special about it other than it looked nice and worked. However, THIS Dyson V9 Motorbar is leaps and bounds better than our previous "stick vac" and we're already spoiled to it. This Motorbar is very lightweight, stylish, and extremely powerful. There's also 3 other attachments that come with this aside from the main brush head. There's a standard brush, the "knife edge" style for hard to reach places, and a special smaller motorized brush head for getting up pet hair. Both brush heads are amazing and pull up everything from your floor, leaving behind a nice clean feeling carpet. The smaller brush head picks up animal hair (and hooman hair) so effortlessly that you might even think you're waving a magical wand around while the hair just disappears. I say this as we have 3 girls in the house and multiple pets, so long hair is always all over the house. These brush heads pick the hair up and "trap" it for you to easily remove later. The main brush head had a removeable brush that you can then remove any hair. The smaller brush head is cone design and it "pushes" the hair to one side for you to grab and pull out. It has a shroud that you can remove to better clean it out if needed. The whole vacuum is incredibly lightweight and will surprise you just how little it weights. I don't have a way to weight it but I can say it feels like it's half the weight of our old Samsung Jet. However, despite it's weight, it does not feel cheap or flimsy at all. It feels and looks like a vacuum from a Sci-Fi movie and rightly so. Even the battery pack is tiny compared to other "stick vacs" we've looked at or owned. But, just because the battery pack is small, doesn't mean it doesn't have a LOT of runtime. On it's "Eco" setting, it's a 40 minute runtime. On the "Boost" setting (maximum power setting) it's 15 minutes. There is a "Med" setting as well and I think it's 25-30 minutes of runtime. The info of battery life as well as some app features (I've not yet used the app with it so I cannot speak to those features) is displayed on a little LCD screen on top of the vacuum body. It's easy to read and has one single button to navigate the basic settings on the vacuum. As for the "bag" or collection bin, it's not very big but will hold more than you think. It's got an innovative way of dumping the collection bin once full. There's a red tab that up simply push forward (see the instruction sheet) and it pops open the lid to dump out the dirt. However, at the same time, it has a built in scrubber of sorts that cleans off the inside metal debris filter while emptying the contents. All you have to do is push the Red tab back and forth a few times and everything is cleared out and ready to go back to work. The only slightly negative thing I can say about this is that you have to remove the tube/pole from the vacuum body in order to empty the collection bin. It's simple enough though as the latch button is very easy and big to push to unlock the vacuum tube body from the vacuum motor body (again, the instructions will show you this easier than I can explain it here). As for the noise level of this. It's much quieter than our previous "stick vac" by a lot. This vacuum on "Eco" mode is quiet enough to be able to talk normally over it and hear what's being said. Our other vacuum, even on it's lowest setting, we couldn't do that. The motor in that vacuum had a high pitch sound no matter what mode it was on and only got louder. This Motorbar is gentle on your ears and isn't horrible to use even on it's "Boost" mode. Overall, this stick vacuum is by far the most powerful vacuum of this style that we've ever used. I believe it has more suction power than any of the corded traditional vacuums we've ever had. It's everything you could want or need in a vacuum cleaner in this class, plus some. The Dyson V9 Motorbar is a high quality lightweight vacuum with powerful suction. It is great for picking up dirt, dust, and pet hair from your floors and furniture. It comes with 4 attachments: 1) a 10 inch wide Motorbar cleaning head that is perfect for both carpets and hardwoods, as it deep cleans to remove ground-in dirt and hair, 2) a crevice tool to clean hard to reach areas, such as between chair cushions or behind appliances, 3) a combination tool that works well for cleaning car carpets and cloth seats. It has a retractable soft-bristle brush that exposes a shorter, firmer brush to scrub stains out of your upholstery, and 4) a unique "hair screw tool" that is great for picking up longer hair. The tool's design ensures that the hair does not wrap around the brush, but instead works off the end of the brush and is pulled into the vacuum's dustbin. I found this tool, used without the extension tube, is the perfect tool for cleaning carpeted stairs. The V9 Motorbar is lightweight, extremely maneuverable, and simple to use. Just squeeze the ergonomic trigger on the comfortable handle to activate the motor, and the vacuum provides plenty of power to clean your furniture and floors. Battery life is good, with up to 40 minutes in Eco mode, which is great for most tasks. It's easy to select either Med or Boost modes if you need more power, albeit with a shorter run time due to the faster battery drain. The vacuum comes with a wall mount with a battery charger. After use, simply hang up the vacuum in its mount and the battery will automatically recharge. The wall mount comes with mounting hardware for attaching it to drywall or into the wall studs (recommended). The only downside to the vacuum is its small dust collection cup that needs to be emptied frequently, especially if you have pets. To empty the cup, you must first remove any attachment from the vacuum, the hold the cup over a trash receptacle, then push the red lever forward to empty the contents. The design is such that the dust cup "self cleans", pushing out any dust particles and hair that has been collected. All in all this is a great vacuum, lightweight and very easy to use and store.
