  • Very powerful and useful vacuum
Color: Copper
Note... My review is not based on price. The price on this compared to other vacuums may be high (I am sure over time will go down a little). Instead my review simply focuses on my experience with it and with regard to price you decide if the premium for this is worth it. We all have different levels of disposable income so what is worth it for me may not be worthwhile for someone else. Prior to this I had a Shark Rocket Ultra Light Corded Vaccum, which cost about $190 (vs this for about $524... I also bought the Dyson V10 Dok, which I found on ebay for $150, making this overall a quite pricey thing). I had the Shark since 2015 until I replaced it (about 3.5 years). My kids are primarily the ones tasked with vacuuming and for a long while they complained the Shark was not doing a good job. Finally, enough was enough and I attempted to do the vacuuming myself to see how well it worked and needless to say, I had to agree my kids were right. I don't know exactly what the issue was, as the suction seemed semi-decent, but it did not work and that was that. Having seen a Dyson stick (I think V6) by someone else, I thought to get a Dyson. I did first try looking at various alternatives and it seemed that overall the people that use Dyson's tend to be happier with the job they do more so than other brands. So I caved and spent a small fortune on the V10. I know I could have gotten for less a V8 or V6, but I was fed up with the complaints and decided to splurge for what I thought had the best chance at being the best at what it does. Needless to say, the V10 is a great vacuum and we are more than happy with it. My kids don't complain about it anymore. So mission accomplished. Here is a more specific review of the V10 vacuum as based on my prior experience with the Shark and my memories from childhood of the vacuums my parents owned. The V10 is a cordless vacuum. My other vacuums were wired. I personally find using a cordless vacuum much more convenient. The best wired vacuum requires you to deal with that cable at some point. Vacuuming involves walking around and not being tied to an outlet (or if a central vacuum a port in the wall) is great. Battery life will only get you so far. If you have a large house, you might be limited in how much of it you can vacuum in one day. You can look up to get an idea of the run time at various power settings (I will discuss soon). For my apartment, it is perfectly fine. I think I have about 2,000 Square feet, mostly wood, but one room has a carpet. My prior vacuum, the Shark, was built somewhat similar (motor up-top of the stick) to the V10 just with a cord. What is interesting is that I thought the V10 with the battery and motor up-top, as opposed to just a motor up-top would weigh more, in-fact it weighs less (at least feels a lot lighter to hold). This is great for the comfort of your arm and wrist while vacuuming. Power... The V10 has 3 power settings (setting is for both suction and powerheads). Setting 1, is for make-believe... It does some vacuuming but you probably are not going to be using it a lot. Setting 2 does a fine job with almost any regular vacuuming and is where you will probably want to leave the power selector to. Setting 3, is like a tornado. If you have any dirt if this can't suck it out, than I don't think it is coming out. Just one thing to point out, the powerhead has these little gates on it, that you have to adjust right to ensure the suction is not pulling on the dirt under the powerhead and not escaping. Frankly, I never recall ever seeing a vacuum that sucks this powerfully. Power and Battery life - Just want to mention this separately as this is important. If you have the vacuum on setting 3, you will drain your battery really quick. Best to reserve it for tough spots or deep cleaning. Setting 2, seems more than sufficient for any vacuuming we do, and seems comparable if not better than other vacuums I have used (that work). With setting 2, you should get decent battery life. With setting 1 you get the best life, but you may find that it takes a bit more work to get things clean. Just saying, I would not count on being able to only use Setting 1, if you are trying to figure out how long the battery will last. Accessories - The V10 Absolute, which is what I got, comes with the most important tools you probably need, like the hard floor cleaner, the carpet cleaner, and a crevice tool, plus some brushes. If you want more tools, I would suggest checking out first the V10 Dok, as that comes with a tool case. The tools included there, include the rubber hose and the reverse thingy hose, that might be useful. Charging - I did not have a good place to put a wall charger, so after a bit of deliberating, I bought the V10 Dok (got on eBay for $150). It comes with an accessory kit, which was very nice. The V10 Dok, is brilliantly designed and holds everything that comes with the absolute very nicely. It allows you to attach the plug to it so you can drop the Vacuum in the Dok and it is charging right away. The Vacuum, does come with a wall mount that if you can use, also allows for drop in charging. Otherwise you have to remember to manually plug in the vacuum or you will find yourself with a dead vacuum. Cleaning - The clean-out is pretty good. Not sure better than a flat that would just open as opposed to the whole mechanism they have. I find cleaning it out causes some dust to make a mess, but hey this is a vacuum and it takes a moment of vacuuming to fix that... Although my hands manage to get dusty every time I clean it, but a quick wash fixes that. Really a minor concern in an overall excellent product. - There is one other cleaning task you have to do regularly, otherwise the vacuum will stop working until you do... Every once in a while, just unscrew the back and rinse off and let dry overnight. That keeps the air flowing nicely. Quality - I can't say all the plastic parts feel high-quality... That said, have not broke anything yet and I imagine if you take care of and don't leave free-standing, which then leads to free-falling, it should last for years. I do recommend this vacuum and would suggest it may be the best vacuum you can buy currently (corded or cordless). I would expect that over the life, other than having to service something, the 2 parts that would have to be replaced would be the filter (I think runs between $15-$30) and the battery (not sure cost... probably too soon for anyone to be replacing their battery yet, unless their original battery was not good). Assuming at least 500 charge cycles before a battery deteriorates, I would guess the battery life, should be at least 5 to 12 years. Even with some deterioration, depending on your needs you may not notice that the life is not as long (e.g. if the battery gets you through an hour of cleaning, but you only need 30 minutes to clean, than even with some battery life lost, you will be fine for a long while). Obviously, if you use this thing every day at Setting 3 to clean saw-dust, I would not be surprised if your battery is toast pretty quick, but for regular household use, it should last a long time. Based on my experience so far with this, I think the future of vacuums is cordless. In my experience, I really can't find much lacking with this. The things I find lacking, are not necessarily better by corded vacuums. If the price is not an issue, I highly recommend. ... show more

  • Excellent Power and Mobility - Game Changer!
Color: Copper
First, I'll say that the first vacuum I received only worked half-way. It had suction, but there was no power going out to the attachments from the handheld portion. It was brand new so there wasn't much troubleshooting Dyson could do with me over the phone, and they recommended I send it back to Amazon which I did and got a new one. I'm NOT taking a star off for this because it happens. Sometimes out of thousands of units being manufactured there's going to be a lemon. That's life. Anyway onto the review. I upgraded from a corded Shark vacuum as I got sick of dealing with a cord and unplugging it, plugging it back in, dealing with the cord, etc. You all know the drill. We have triplet toddlers and have a huge play area for that has a gate around it, and those large foam tiles. This Dyson cordless vacuum makes it so much easier to clean in there - and everywhere. No more running a cord over the gated area and navigating around the play area making sure the babies don't get a hold of the cord, etc. Bottom line here is it's just so much more mobile and easy to use. The suction is great. I use this thing on low 90% of the time and it gets the job done fantastically, especially on hardwood. Sometimes I'll bump it up to 2 for when I hit a carpet. The only time I've used max setting was on the trunk area of my car and on the floor mats for my car. Gave it the extra juice it needed to really get the dirt and debris out. Nobody seems to be arguing that the vacuum performs great. It seems like a lot of the negatives are around battery life. Look I get it, we all think it would be awesome to run this thing at max power for 60 minutes. But you just don't need it. I don't know what people are cleaning where they feel they have to run this even at 2 for 60 minutes. Hard surfaces low is going to work just fine and the battery lasts sufficiently long even for a decent sized house on low. My house is I don't know around 1600 sq ft of livable space and I was able to vacuum it all, mix of hardwood and rugs with a combination of low and medium without killing the battery. Having the trigger control also means you can be more efficient, and the increased mobility not having to worry about a cord, etc. helps that as well. If you need to clean more than that, I suggest not doing it all at once anyway. I find that picking a day and doing half the house and then doing half the house another day makes it easier and faster each time. And you can do it more frequently which means it goes faster every time. Don't wait 3 months and then expect to clean your whole house at once with this on a single charge if your house is that big. I try to preach this in my house. ... show more
