I started out by purchasing the Dr Heater. It is a quality heater that makes less noise than my furnace does. Most people would say its quiet enough but I wanted something that was totally silent. That's why I purchased the Ballu. Both heaters make 1500 watts of heat. That is the maximum that can come from a wall plug. Dr Heater focuses the heat in a narrow beam that will keep one person warm in a cold room. The Ballu Mica spreads heat over a wider area. You don't feel the heat as much until the room starts to warm. It is nice to that you don't have to stay right in front of the heater. Dr heater looks like nice furniture. Ballu is unobtrusive when placed against a wall. Dr Heater is less expensive. Ballu can be controlled with a cell phone app. I turn it on before I get out of bed. In winter, I will use the app to turn the heater on before I go home when hiking with my dog in the morning. I run both heaters in the morning and turn the Dr Heater off after the chill is gone. I use the Ballu much longer every day. I can heat my house with these heaters because I'm in a coastal climate where we need some heat every day but we don't have bitter cold. You will probably just heat one room if you live in a colder climate. Both heaters are good quality. They just appeal to different people.

Happily savoring my coffee on a cool, September morning, my bare feet are basking in Dr. Heater's warmth! This small appliance has made a huge impact on my life: * After having paid for annual maintenance on the much-touted heat pump I installed before retiring, I was suddenly shown this fall that it was in bad shape from accumulated "gunk" that would cost a huge amount to address on top of the maintenance (& quite possibly result in needing a new unit anyway!). And of course those costs would repeat & continue to rise year after year! * Furious that my once trusted, local public utility had sacrificed users by subsidizing this scam, I immediately threw that breaker. With a small woodstove & my old, oil-filled radiators still available, I still wanted something that would warm me quickly when sitting but didn't draw much power. An A.I. search suggested infrared & after researching, I am pleased that I decided to give this unit a go. * Other advantages: a small & portable footprint in my 800 sq.' home; no maintenance costs; a quiet fan; a 3-year warranty + purchase of the Asurion insurance; & very important for me, no more winter, dry eye problem from the HVAC blower! Also, the company packed & shipped this unit immediately & in a sturdy box with good protection! * One negative I mention just to be thorough but not enough to diminish my 5-star rating was the remote - though I was very careful, the remote battery cover was stuck & had a weak, plastic "latch" that immediately broke. I just taped it on but likely would not use it anyway. I have no need for the night mode & just switch the unit off at bedtime, back on before I fix my morning coffee, and off during indoor chores or when working outside. UPDATE 9/16/26: Realized the other day the reality of how infrared works. I'd turned the heater off, was bustling about doing early morning chores, and realized that there was a gentle warmth emanating back into the room, I imagine from the furniture. Absolutely lovely!

I own 3 of these now. I finished my basement and the furnace doesn't quite keep the bedrooms warm enough during the winter so I bought one of these. I tested it in a large room, about 275 sq. ft, and it worked really well (all walls and ceilings are insulated). It was such a good heater I bought another one for another basement bedroom. And recently I bought one for an upstairs bedroom that can get a little chilly at night. Pros: 1. Excellent build quality. It's made of wood and feels solid. Inside the wood cabinet that houses the blower and heating parts is made of sheet metal. So it's a wood cabinet that houses a metal box, with all the components inside of that metal box. I point this out because aside from the buttons on the front to operate, there is very little plastic on this heater. The castors (plastic) work well and roll on thick plush carpet. The wood cherry cabinet might look a little unusual or dated to some people but it does look like nicer, in my opinion, than all the other cheap plastic space heaters out there. 2. Heats well. The little heater pumps out air pretty efficiently. It can heat our large bedroom from 65 to 70 in a few minutes. The little blower on it is quiet and doesn't cause problems for those sleeping in the room. They describe it as white noise, on the eco setting, which still heats the large room well and keeps it warm. 3. Features are great. - Has a timer that I believe maxes out at 12 hours - It has an actual thermostat (you can see hanging out the back). You can set the desired room temperature. 68 degrees F is the default out of the box temp. Push the mode and arrow down button at the same time to see current room temp. - Has different modes, eco, medium, and high. We mostly use eco for the cost savings and because it's pretty darn efficient. - Remote is provided is definitely, but see my cons lists 4. Support is available and mostly responsive. Good support is key in a quality product. While nobody should ever have to use it, it's nice to have it available. See my cons lists below for more on support but they have a responsive support team, even if it can be a little delayed. 5. Comes all put together, including castors. Just pull it out of the box and follow the instructions taped on the front of the unit to get going. Cons: 1. The remote - The remote is required to set the timer. This is the single part of this heater I think is poor design. What if the remote is lost or doesn't work? How hard would it be to add this functionality to the unit itself? - On one unit the remote stopped working. I contacted support and they took several days to respond. I had to email them again to see if they received my initial email. They did respond, and going forward communication was relatively smooth. They sent me a new remote, which didn't fix the problem. I lost communication with them again for several days when I reported this. They then came back and said I had to replace the main board on the unit. It's on the front of the heater. It's what the temp is displayed on and the buttons push into. Problem is you have to take the metal housing out of the inside of the wood box and take that covering off to get to the board. It wasn't too bad to replace. You really have to just remove about two dozen or more screws, swap out the board and put everything back together. They provided a relatively helpful video, though it's missing a few key parts. Like how the metal casing fits back together (corners overlap in some places and not others), and they didn't provide me with replacement zip ties, but I had some on hand. They did ask me before sending if I could do it myself and I said yes. I suspect if this repair makes you nervous they had some kind of alternate way to get it repaired for you. I figured this would save me time by doing it myself. It took me about an hour. Overall they backed their product and support did help me get the problem resolved. The cons here are the fact that it took about 3 to 4 weeks worth of emails and a board replacement to get it working again. The pros are they supported their product, and did actually respond, even if it said response was delayed sometimes. The remote has worked fine on my 2 other units. So I assume it was just a faulty board, which does happen in the world of mass production. 2. Support can be slow to respond - see previous con As a side note, I'm not entirely sure what safety features are available with this. I've never tested them. The front of the unit doesn't get hot enough to burn you if you touched it, but it is blowing out very hot air so that alone could potentially hurt little kids or pets, or be very uncomfortable. Usually these space heaters have a tipping feature that would turn it off. I haven't tested for this feature but I will and I'll come back and update this review. The thing is that based on its design being a square box on wheels it's not likely to be tipped over. The more common shaped space heaters like the towers or ones that sit on a small narrow plastic base and are top heavy are far more likely to be tipped over. UPDATE ON THIS: I tested it and it does have a tipping safety feature and will turn off. It's pretty quick to turn off and even when it's turned back up right you have to turn it back on. It still would take some effort to knock over, but it's nice to know it's there. Overall, I'd definitely recommend buying one, or three. I know they're more expensive than other heaters with similar specs and features, but the build quality alone should be enough for people to consider it. You'll spend more on this heater than others but it will also last you a lot longer. I suspect we'll have these for many many years.

I bought this in 2023, which means I used it for the winter in 2023, 24, and 25. We are just going into the cold weather of 2026 so I put it on and it does nit seem to be blowing out as warm. it did seem to get warmer as I left it running. Hopefully I'm not going to have to replace it this winter

After doing quite a bit of research, the DR-968 really stood out as one of the best space heaters in its class. Its compact size makes it easy to place almost anywhere, but don't let the size fool you. This heater is a beast when it comes to putting out heat, and it looks great too. The cherry finish blends nicely with furniture, and the included remote is a convenient bonus. I have to admit I was skeptical about its heating performance because of its small footprint. To compare it against my tower ceramic heaters, I ordered two of these units in August and put them through some testing. With the air conditioner running full blast, the DR-968 did an impressive job cutting through the cold and warming the room quickly. I was so impressed that I ended up purchasing a third unit. Although it does not oscillate, it still distributes heat remarkably well throughout the room. Another reason I bought them when I did was the discounted price and free shipping, which made the decision an easy one. The included 3-year warranty is also hard to beat and adds extra peace of mind. After a lot of research, I decided against the model with the built-in humidifier. From what I found, the humidifier version produces slightly lower heat output, and these infrared heaters don't seem to dry out the air the way some conventional heaters can. For me, paying extra for a feature I didn't really need didn't make sense. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Three heaters later, I'm still extremely satisfied with my choice. As always, do your own research and choose the option that best fits your needs, but the DR-968 has definitely earned my recommendation.

Hey folks I live in a 28-foot RV or / travel trailer right now I am surrounded by a foot and a half of snow the outside temperature is about 32 degrees or a little less and right now I'm sitting comfortably and my trailer at a room temperature of 60°. Also I have 13 single pane windows that I've covered in a insulated styrofoam if you will like you would find on the inside of a roll up garage door and I have what they call the Northwest package but it doesn't bring my insulation rating down below freezing or any by freezing time without prep you'd be out of luck but here's a single heater running on high that goes off and on keeping the room warm and it compensates for the use of my propane which is crippling my SSI so all those pictures you saw the overheated wall plugs and such those are usually caused by a loose-fitting wall plugs you know that are overused or by having the machine cranked up 24/7 non-stop on 80° or something trying to compensate for heating room too big or two little insulated but like I said I have a Northwest package Forest River 28 ft 2000 travel trailer that I live in year round and other than the skirting and the slide insulation on the Windows my house is at 60° and it's below freezing outside if this is helpful I hope it is I'm sorry about the issues I saw with the wall plugs if you don't give the machine an opportunity to shut off every once in awhile it's going to burn out anything specially when you're drawing 1500 watts so anyway I hope this is helpful and I'm so pleased with it that I'm buying a second one and I'm going to put it in the front half of the trailer run them both on low and probably be running around in here at 70 degrees all winter long anyway thank you for the product I'm very pleased with it............ A little update I got my second heater woke up this morning they were both set on 65° during the night on low when I woke up this morning it's 12° outside and it's 61 degrees indoors so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these if you're in my kind of situation with a little prep they do great work if you have a really good insulated room don't sweat it it's going to heat it as long as it doesn't exceed it's square footage rating you know if it's good for a thousand square feet you're not going to eat 1500 so anyway no hot burned up plugs because I'm allowing the heater to shut off every once in awhile which means you're not exceeding its ability to heat the room if it stays running 24/7 it's going to melt it down that's for sure but anyway the second one work just like I thought it would I spent all day in the trailer in the low '70s because of the second heat so don't hesitate if you need one,.............,......,. Well here's the third update it got down to three degrees outside and two of these heaters set on low keeps my interior temperature between 65 and 67 degrees on low or Eco one on eco and one on low and it's keeping my trailer very warm and it doesn't allow for any plug meltdowns or anything because I don't let him run on high continuously so all I can say guys is that this was a life changer for me I went from 4 propane bottles that are rated at 30 lb I think. I used to go through four a month I've gone through three in two months this time around with these two heaters running all day alI I can say is the electricity is cheaper than the propane where I'm at propane is over $5 a gallon I guess is how you would refer to it but we're talking to fill one bottle we're talking 35 almost 40 bucks so if you do the math you can see I'm coming out smelling like a rose using these heaters As part of this major storm it's gotten to 12 minus up here and for the first time in 3 weeks I've had to turn off the heater a little bit to help back up these heaters at 12 - the heaters were running at 68° and the trailer was at 51°. So I turned up the propane heater for a little bit the floor furnace to bring it back up to 60° and it only came on four or five times during the day with these heaters running which is great for me considering I was doing four 30 gallon tanks a month and I've only gone through three and almost two and a half months so I say it's a win-win now don't get me wrong I'm not sitting around in my Bermuda shorts or anything but I'm living in a 20-year-old travel RV trailer 28 ft long with what they call the Forest River package which gave me a built-in furnace and an air conditioner but other than that I have some foam foil covered insulation for the windows and I just leave enough of the window exposed to see out of it and I've got my septic tank and water area wrapped and I've got some heat lamps going under there to keep it above zero it seems to be working great of course it works better when it's in the tens and twenties but at least I know that for a short period of time this will work at even 15 below thank you for the ramble it's December 24th or 23rd somewhere in there 2022 so you guys know this is up to date anyway I hope this guy this helps you know if I had a third circuit in my trailer I put a third one in here and I probably wouldn't have to use propane at all anyway I hope this helps .- 17 is the limit for heating without a lot of help with propane .

I bought an original older model over 4 years ago. We live in a "drafty" old farm house with modest to poor insullation. The house is about 1400 SF. The reason I bought it was because I have LP Gas heat, and LP Gas is more than twice to three times the cost of natural gas. Now, Normally my LP heating bill runs around $3,000 per year. Its horrible. I also have NIPSCO Electric, and they are high also. So I bought the little Dr heater., Plugged it in in my 600 SF living room and it did the trick. Normally when the temps are all the way down to 20 degrees outdoors, it provided plenty of heat for that sized room. Now.. I ran my little Dr. heater full blast, constantly, 24/7 November through March, and 50% of the time Mid Sept, through Oct, and again in April. So, all in all it ran about 4,440 hours per year.. for 4 1/2 heating years.. THATS 19,980 hours without a hitch or any problems.. then just today, the IR heating element finally went out. So off to the trash it goes.. and I have a new one from Amazon on the way. Do the cost analysis: I paid $119 for it and got 12,980 hours of great service out of it. Thats a cost to me of $0.0059 cents per hour for every hour I used it.. and though it cost me about $36 per month for the electricity to operate it.. it saved me about $1,300 PER YEAR in LP Gas costs for each year I used it.. so there's a $5,850.00 savings over that time period in LP GAS expense. Its a pretty good trade off if you ask me. Cost me about $36 bucks more for the electricty to operate it, but saved me aroundn $260 or more per month in LP gas charges... AND it saved me a little in electric also because my furnace blower motor wasn't running near as much.. and those puppies can pull some amps too. Oh.... two years before I ordered my cheap little original Dr. Heater .. I bought two "I-Heaters" at a cost of about $350 each. I gotta tell you.. the little Dr. Heater put out TWICE the heat the 1500 Watt I-Heaters put out. The I-Heaters were a lot more expensive and they are noisy as hell. They sould like a mini grain dryer running in the room. The Dr. Heater is quiet as heck in comparison. So here's my advice: If you have LP gas for heating then these WILL save you a lot of money in your gas expenses. Not as much savings if you burn Natural Gas... but depending on your rate, they can save you some good bucks there also, especially if you have an older furnace. Just get out your gas bills, your electric bills, and do some comparisons for yourself. Also, if you live in a home with rooms you do not NEED to heat above, say 50 degrees or so, because you use them, you can also just close the doors, and use the little heaters in areas you want warm. I have two bedrooms closed off, because we never use them, I set my furnace thermostadt at about 65 degrees, and heat our living room, Kitchen, Bathroom and bedroom with two Dr. Heaters. Works for us. Saves us lotsa bucks, and we stay comfortable up here in cold old N.W. Indiana in our drafty ole farm house. One more thing: Don't let all the other higher priced manufacturers fool you.. they are ALL MADE IN CHINA. Deal with it. The Dr. Heater is just one of the best little heaters of the bunch and the lowest in price. 6 of my retired friends saw mine.. and ordered some for themselves too. They are all very happy with this little heater and not one of us have a complaint about them. Yeah.. my old original Dr. Heater finally died.. but my God.. I worked it to death.. for 4 1/2 years... and it earned a good burial. Find ANYTHING that works that hard for that long and won't eventually just give out. Well worth $119 bucks as far as I am concerned.
