I'm in the process of reviewing two similar, but different, radiant patio heaters, this one and one that is configured to be mounted horizontally on a wall or deck frame. I have to say that this vertical configuration with a heavy base stand is a better fit for our needs - instead of mounting it to a wall, you can move it around freely by the recessed handle in the top rear, and it warms you top to bottom when you sit near it. It's hard to tell, since it's about 49 degrees out there, but this doesn't seem to get dangerously hot on any of the surfaces surrounding the opening for the heating element, including the back. I am in the habit of smoking cigars out on the back patio, and this is just what the doctor ordered - this time of year, I would normally have a small ceramic space heater under my chair with a blanket over my lap. Now, even though the air is quite brisk, I feel a little like I'm basking in the sun. If you are in the market for a portable heater for outside, I can't recommend this one highly enough. It comes with something they call a towel rack, but I can't imagine what it's for - surely you don't hang a towel over this beast to warm or dry it?

I like this heater, although you have to be sort of close to it to get a significant amount of heat. We're using it on our back porch to take the chill off the 45 degree mornings. It is an electric heater, even though the description says oil. It's oil colored, but definitely electric. It has a remote, but we haven't used it. The knob on the front pushes to ON and turn the dial to the amount of heat you want. We go full blast because it's cold. It we set it 6 feet away, we can just barely feel a little heat. Four feet away tends to be a better "heat" spot, but it's directional. If I point it toward me, my wife feels no heat. I'm ok with that, but she complains for some reason. It has a little metal guard that attaches to the top for drying things, but we haven't used it. It's a neat heater. It will serve our purposes well.

This will work well to enable us to extend our time on our screen porch. It's lightweight and easy to move, has good tip shutoff for safety and warmed up quickly. Would be useful in the evening to be able to eat outside in spring and fall, and even into early winter on mild days that tend to cool down quickly once the sun has set. It would also be useful if you need to work outside in cool weather and are not moving around a lot (soldering, cleaning equipment, working on a car).

We were optimistic in setting this out on the patio which has 3 sides of open spaces. The unit is sleek and light weight, very quiet but doesn’t heat beyond it’s front area. Once we realized this we put it over by the outdoor cooking area and the chef was happy as could be. I would say this is a bit high end pricing for the space it actually heats. It is of quality materials and sleek in design but needs some tweeking in it’s ability to heat a larger area.

The media could not be loaded. It is extremely large! This will keep the stray porch cat and his friends warm. I have been using a propane heater but it isn't very safe left alone. I can set this radiant heater to a timer. It also has a remote so I don't have to go outside to turn it on. It is extremely safe and won't catch on fire.
