Hubby wanted shades for our outdoor patio. He started the project five years ago and went through so many it was ridiculous. They would shred in the wind or rot quickly from the sun. We live in the desert. He finally gave in and tried Coolaroo shades. That all started three years ago. He started with one. Since then, we have purchased probably at least 8 more in various sizes. They lowered the temperature on the pato and blocked the blazing sun. He has them bungee'd down. They have withstood winds up to 70 mph. We had some straight line winds come through that took down trees. Our blinds remained undamaged. They are a beautiful addition to the patio and we are more than pleased. Over the years he has changed the configuration and locations but we will always use Coolaroo. Thanks to them our outdoor patio is now in use 12 months out of the year. The Coolaroo Exterior Roller Shade, Cordless Roller Shade with 80% UV Protection was installed by a handyman with not much trouble. The tan 80% UV fabric does not give as much privacy as my Terracotta (red) 90% UV fabric [see photo]. If your priority is privacy you may want to stick with the 90% UV fabric. The hardware that allows the shades to be lowered and raised should be sturdier as it seems it could be easily broken. Overall, I really like the shades as they make my south facing deck cooler with just enough privacy. My Coolaroo shades prevent me from getting sunburn on my deck. I can see out but those on the outside cannot see in. Do I recommend? Yes. Also, I paid full price and my review is not part of any promotion. ... show more

I have other coolaroo roll up shades that are wonderful. My others are 8X8. I was happy to find a smaller one. I received the well packed shade. It did look like it had been opened before though. When I opened it, I got a good look at the cheap material and cheap plastic parts. I am convinced it is a cheap counterfeit. It does not look like my other shades.     • The small plastic piece that the wand that rolls it up & down always brakes.

Coolaroo needs to improve the small plastic loop at the top of the shade where the mettle wand fits in to turn it up & down. This is the 3rd one of theirs I've bought that this plastic loop broke. Then I can not roll it up & down. I'd like reimbersment for the defect.

Installation was easy except exact mounting clearance was not very clear prior to order. I ended up with enough room to mount (really tight!) but not enough room to spin the rod that lowers/raisers the shades on one of my 3 shades. I had to do a little bit of improvisation to get that one installed but the other 2 installed easily without a hitch and look great side by side. Haven't encountered any extreme instances of weather like heavy wind, downpours, or extreme heat but so far so good. It has CONSIDERABLY reduced the excessive glare and heat on my front porch which faces west and is borderline unbearable between 5-7 PM on summer days. Now its pleasant and even a little secluded which is nice. Really works with my color scheme as well. ... show more

I gave this product to another person - I have been to their yard and enjoyed the shade provided by this product. I ask about the install and how it tolerated wind and was told it was perfect. Easy to do .. They have it set up under a raised deck and it does wonders in the heat wave we are experiencing and it is easy to roll up when we go inside. Sometimes they leave it down but they were showing me how easy it is to work.. They are grateful for the shade and appreciated it a lot. ... show more

I LOVE THESE! We have a screened in (oddly built by previous owners) back porch! I needed something to reduce the amount of rain & snow that the wind blows into the back porch! I ordered 1 8’, 4 6’, and 3 4’ shades! I had to make a 4’ wide shade into a 3’4” shade! It was shockingly easy to do if you can sew and use a flat screw driver and a hack saw! Measure 5 times before cutting anything😁! ... show more

Bought the 4x6 to shield our front door and screen door. Our house faces West and the Fl sun is so hot the screen door handle was at times too hot to try to open when entering!! This was the answer. We hung it under the eaves and angled it outward about 45 degrees at a slant to secure with bungee cords that have a hook on 1 end to hook to the end caps the other end we secured into our concrete pathway....that way when we open the door we have some leeway so the screen door doesn't hit the shade. This set up works pretty well and has definitely cut down on the heat hitting the front door and diminished the trapping of heat between the front and screen door too! Just have to be careful not to trip on the tie downs when we go around it to enter or exit the house. Has held up in the rain storms but I did roll it up during a wind/rain storm, so as not to take a chance on any damage. ... show more
