  • Exellent!
Color: Walnut Size: 120" W x 96" H
This was an exceelent purchase. Great quality, easy to install. We have a large west facing picture window and the heat is brutal in the afternoon. Couldn't be happier with the solar shade.

  • Beautiful terra cotta color, very stylish
I have a west-facing outdoor patio. It and the house get grilled by the afternoon sun. In the past, I've installed three 8' bamboo roller shades across the patio. The bamboo shades have always worked well, provided good shade, and were easy to roll up (though the cords were a bit unsightly). I leave the shades up year-round and they remain in good shape for about 5 yrs, then deterioration begins to show. This year, I purchased a terra cotta Coolaroo rectangular shade sail to go across the top of the patio and decided to purchase matching roller shades. Unfortunately, because the mounting brackets are on the sides of these shades, the usual three 8' shades wouldn't fit. I had to go with two 8' and one 6' (there are no 7' shades). I did the installation myself and didn't find it to be difficult, but it did take time to measure carefully and consider placement, as well as to level the brackets. There are no extra screws; if you lose one, as I did, you'll have to find a replacement screw. Also, because of the side brackets, there will be a minimum 2" gap between shades. My previous bamboo shades mounted from the top and there were no gaps. From a style standpoint, they do look very good. The terra cotta color is really nice. There are no cords hanging around. From a sun-blocking standpoint, they provide medium-filtered shade, at best. The bamboo shades were much better at blocking the sun. From a privacy standpoint, there is some privacy if there is no light on in the patio area; however, if you are sitting on the patio with a light on, you are easy to see from the other side of the shade. The bamboo shades provided better privacy. They roll up and down easily. The roller stick is removable and I ended up putting it in my pantry when not using it. I particularly like the tie-downs at the bottom of the shade. I don't want to constantly raise or lower the shades depending on the weather. I want to set them and forget them, which is what I've done. I can't speak for the longevity of these shades as I've only had them up for one month. If you are looking for something stylish and chic with medium sun-filtering, these are a good option. If you are interested in something closer to sun-blocking or a higher degree of privacy, these are not the best option for those purposes. ... show more

  • Summer life saver!
Color: Almond Size: 72"W x 72"H
We purchased these to replace an old bulky version we installed many years ago. These are lighter weight, well made, easy to install and a life saver during those super hot summer days. Our family room gets afternoon sun streaming through our sliding glass door and it gets HOT! We have two hung on our patio overhang and lower them to keep the blistering afternoon sun from directly hitting our glass doors and heating up our family room. It is a noticeable difference in temperature in the family room. They still allow some airflow and plenty of light, plus we can still somewhat see into the yard and keep an eye on things. We love the low profile latches to hook the bottom of the screen to the posts to keep them from blowing in the wind. Our old one had metal brackets that stuck out quite a bit and always worried the dogs would be hurt by them. The handle/crank to raise and lower the shade is great, but I wish it would raise/lower faster. Not a deal breaker by any means! Easy to hose off and clean and when raised completely, they are barely noticeable on our patio. Basically a great product that is worth the investment! Great color options and like I said, very easy to install. We installed both in less than an hour - hubby is a perfectionist so he takes his time with projects! ... show more

  • Seems good, but the specified drill bit size was misleading
Color: Walnut Size: 72" W x 96" H
I just installed this on my back deck and it seems to be pretty much exactly what I hoped for. Time will tell, but at least initially, I am very happy with both the appearance and the functionality. (And the size matched what I ordered: 6' wide by 8' tall.) If you want extra bungee receivers so that you can secure the bottom of the shade at different heights, they are inexpensive, but as far as I can see they can only be ordered direct from Coolaroo's web site. (They're listed in the "replacement parts" section.) I do have a few other notes: 1) I found the appropriate drill bit size for the pilot hole in my softwood beam to be 1/8" (might want slightly larger for hardwood). The instructions specified a larger drill bit size (3/16") but I tested first and that was much too large for the screws that came with the shade — had I drilled pilot holes before checking, I would have been very unhappy. (Their specified size might be appropriate if using the optional anchors, but I didn't need them.) 2) When I mounted the end units, I was very slightly higher on one end than the other. When extended all the way, the bottom of my shade is visibly not level. I'm guessing this is because of my end unit placement error, so I recommend being very precise with the vertical placement when mounting the end units. (Due to the slotted screw guides instead of screw holes, you have some leeway horizontally. It might be a challenge, but in an ideal world one of the end caps would have some kind of control letting you fine tune the vertical position too.) 3) I initially attempted to swap the clutch to the left side but to do that you have to swap the end plugs on the shade tube, and I was unable to pull those end plugs out. It wasn't important in my case, so I simply gave up and used it as-is, but for anyone who needs to do this, it might be a struggle unless there's some trick which simply eluded me. ... show more

  • Great outdoor privacy shade
Color: Walnut Size: 120" W x 96" H
Very nice privacy shade. Filters out sun very well. Also good for privacy when outdoors. You can vaguely see outside of it, but can’t see in. Easily adjustable with wand included. Bungie cords attach bottom so it’s stable in a breeze. It’s recommended to roll up during high winds. Easy to put up. Recommend. With a strong breeze, the bottom will bang if mounted on metal post. The bungee cords don’t keep it tight enough to prevent this. The shade needs to move to avoid tearing, so a solution I thought of was cutting a short piece of a water noodle length wise on one side with a hack saw. It then slips securely over bottom where metal sticks out preventing a banging noise. See photo. You can also cover the entire bottom with a noodle, or secure styrofoam on the metal it bangs on. I found this solution more appealing. Can be secured if needed inside noodle with double sick tape or adhesive Velcro. ... show more

  • Shades seem well made and was what we were expecting.
Color: Walnut Size: 8"W x 8"H
Just hung our new outdoor blinds and they look fantastic! Instructions were clear and it didn't take too long for my husband to install them. I was actually going to order the Mocha color, but they were out of the size we needed. I ordered the Walnut color instead and it's perfect! Not too light and not too dark. We had to reverse the crank pole to the other side, but there were clear instructions on how to do that. Happy with purchase and would recommend. ... show more

  • Great product. Also some ideas to ease installation.
Color: Walnut Size: 48"W x 96"H
My wife and I think that this Coolaroo sun shade has turned an OK outdoor space into something much better. We like the way that it keeps the deck cooler in the bright afternoon sunshine. I understand now the beauty of being able to see through the shade while giving a little more privacy. We are very happy with this purchase. Now in a matter of sharing what I learned from the experience. We also installed a 10 foot long Coolaroo shade at the same time. I have Parkinson's so the effort required to install certainly exceeded the 20 minutes that the instructions suggested =8^). What I figured out seemed to help in handling both of these shades. When first taken out of the shipping container, take several strips of hook and loop fasteners (Velcro) and tightly snug them down to make the shades easier to handle until it is time to unfurl them. It also helps with the slightly annoying problem of having the fabric sliding while you are hanging off the deck trying to mount it using the brackets hung under the roof eves. I used 4 for the 10 footer and two for the 4 footer. These fastener straps would also come in handy when taking the shade down, if you elected to, for winter as well. I also put an extra screw into both brackets for the 10 footer. I thought that only placing two in each bracket was not enough for that long span of 10 feet. The shade itself only weighs 11 pounds, but I was worried about the sudden wind gusts and Colorado weather blowing on the shade. It was easy to drill a third hole in between the two slots provided by the manufacturer. After making all the necessary adjustments to the shade I then placed this third screw to give more support and also to lock each bracket down. Hope this helps someone. ... show more
