A single button press activates it with an led to indicate when it's on. And it shuts itself off after bringing water to a boil, so you never have to worry about over-boiling. There's a thumb lever press to lift the lid for refilling the water. When removed from the base after heating, it's safe to set on down on surfaces. The size is large enough for multiple cups and the mostly steel exterior provides a lot of durability. Plus, it's so easy to keep nearby so you don't have take a trip anywhere to get a fresh cup to drink. THOUGHTS: It took getting shamed by real tea drinkers to make me go back to using a kettle after relying on heated water from fountains or the microwave. And I'm so glad they did because I missed the quality brewed water activates in tea and coffee. Definitely get you one, if you don't it already.

I got the plain pot with a solid stainless steel body (no water level window). It doesn't have a temperature control or any kind of lights except for a small one on the start button. For me, though, simple was the best way to go. The pot is sturdy, and it does include a water level marker on the inside so you know the maximum safe level. Then, you just put the pot on the stand, press the button, and let it do its thing. It takes several minutes for a full pot to boil, but if you only need a cup or two, a half pot of water boils pretty quickly. The only "drawback" if you can call it that, is that the power doesn't switch off until the water has clearly been at a full boil for about 30 seconds or so. It does switch off automatically, but I often stop it early.
