  • Office Upgrade
I was using separate HP printers and Fujitsu scanners in my office. HP printers had been the only printer which handled envelopes well in my office. And Fujitsu was the easy choice for scanning based on reviews, and speed and quality of scans. But the Fujitsu scanners started mid-feeding after a few years, and HP was refreshing its product line so often, we we constantly having to order different model toner replacements. It was driving mrr crazy. It was time to consider other scanner options. Through sheer random happenstance, Amazon notified me about this printer/scanner. Since my scanning needs are not for super high quality (mainly for making quick copies of B&W documents or scanning an occasional color photo to reproduce on my color printer), scan quality was not a concern. I was concerned about whether a non-HP printer would hold up in the office. For the price, and needing new scanners anyway, I took the plunge. I got a total of 4 of these machines for myself and my 3 staff. VERDICT Setup was very easy. The machines were all up and running. The very basic scanning software works good on Windows 7 64-bit, though the instalation process for the software was a bit odd. Nothing too hard to figure out. The scanning is slower than the Fujitsu desktop scanner and is not of quite as high quality. But you know what? It scans color photos at great quality and scans all of my other docs very easily and well. I set B&W to grayscale and they come out great. Fujitsu is better quality scans and faster, but for the price of about ONE $500 Fujitsu, I was able to buy about 3 of these all in ones. The speed is not a problem. The printing is fast, crisp and great. It handles envelopes as well as any HP printer. I am very happy. And, there are already loads of remanufactured cartidges for toner, so we got 4 of them and they work great, and they were very affordable. So my printing costs and efficiency has gone way up. No more toner confusion. e have been using these for a couple of months. No scanning issues, no paper jams. No complaints from the staff, and they print more than I do, though I probably scan more than they do. On little issue: you have to push a button on the machine itself to switch between copy/print and scan. It would be nice if the printer switched itself when it noted you were trying to scan to it. But this is minor and I am used to quickly hitting the button when it is scan time! Overall verdict? This is the best technology purchase I have ever made for my office. Bar none. Hands down. Well done, Canon, for delivering solid products at very competitive prices. ... show more

  • I've used a LOT of these products and this is hands down the best
Over the last few decades I've used all in ones from Brother, Lexmark, IBM, Canon, Epson, HP, Xerox, Oki, and probably 10 other brands that I've forgotten. The All in One has been the dream of home office people and techy executives forever, and BOY have we paid BIG money to get fancy products that supposedly print quickly and cheaply, Fax like the wind, offer very fast copier performance on par with a full sized Xerox machine and can make automated multipage pdfs blah blah blah Problem is, most of them don't work as advertised... most screamingly with regard to speed.... you walk up to a dedicated Xerox printer or the like... stick a sheet in, then make 30 copies... it's roughly a 1 minute thing... on an HP deskjet, it means warm up, boot, agonizingly slow first pass scan, in some cases a second scan... thinking about it for a while, then start printing, then finish 30 copies... in my experience typically being about 3-4 minutes at least sure, all these companies play games with the words and when the PPMs start etc. but hard cold, slap a sheet on the unit then spit out 30 copies..... every last brand SUCKS at it... except Canon This middleweight series, beginning with the 4570 a couple of years back, and ending with this unit.... it totally freakin amazing for this price. Pro: - instantly starts printing - copies very fast both in first sheet out and the true to spec 24 PPM it shows.... this is the first all in one to ever keep this spec promise to me.... if you get this printer, being accustomed to the copy speed and ADF speed of HP and others... you will be BLOWN AWAY by how fast this unit is... is is very very fast and a very satisfying product - has a good desktop app to auto scan to multipage PDF etc. and it actually works... Con: - the software interface is a little old fashioned but it is still very effective - when scanning remotely, you need to select, from the printer screen, the exact mode you wish or it will fail.... this should automatically happen - genuine toner cartridges are a little expensive at about $73 Canon 128 Toner Cartridge - Black I've had some very bad experience from the reloaded toners and haven't found a good one on Amazon yet... the most reliable re-manufactured ones IMO come from tonerrefillkits.com Great product... crazy fast, cheap per page cost.... is it perfect? no, but this is the first all in one in history to seriously deliver... Love it ... show more
