  • Not just love it, ADORE it
I'm very satisfied with this printer so far. My old Lexmark X215 died unexpectedly, so I had to move fast in order to keep up with all the urgent things life throws at You ;-))) Of course, I started reading all the Lexmark's products reviews and got kind of disappointed... As always, we MUST have the best quality and looks on a tiny budget )))) And then this Canon machine showed up. Frankly, it looked somewhat cheap but there were not too many bad reviews, so I decided to give it a go. As always, Amazon delivered this product promptly and very well packaged. Although I have something to say to Amazon in order to improve their services and price, I must admit - these guys are professionals. They basically set up all the standards in the internet sales industry so everybody else just follow them. Just don't get too cocky, dear Amazon )))) My main concern was if I could get this thing to do what I needed the most, i.e. to print and scan my docs. I've read some reviews here on Amazon and it seemed to be a somewhat tricky task. Some guys had some issues with connecting it to the network, especially using it as a scanner via network. Well, all my concerns are gone now. So here's a few things I want to mention. Packaging - Canon did a great job with packing this printer, including all the instructions and pictures on how to unpack it properly. You can feel that Canon used good quality packing materials and packaging was very well thought out. Thank You, Canon. Looks - I DON'T LIKE that black shiny "dust and finger prints collector" surface of the printer. Personally, I prefer those old off-white, kind of greyish plastics I grew up with. But hey))), it's just my preference))) Somebody else might be different and like to wipe the dust off every single day, who knows, right?))) Size-wise, it's takes a small space, comparing to my old printer. That's a definite plus, in my opinion. All those plastic doors, paper guides, buttons feel a bit flimsy and cheap. If I may suggest, Canon can improve this printer by using may be different kind of plastic or rubber silencers in places where two pieces of plastic meet while being slammed ))))) But so far, no piece of plastic fell off that machine )))) Installation - went as smooth as it could. I just hooked it up to my router using Cat5 network cable and installed all the drivers that came with the printer on CD. It took some time for driver's installation, but my laptop had seen some better times, if You know what I mean ))) Functioning - I love it. I don't have to trip on that dreadful USB cable any longer )))) All I have to do - just click a Print button in whatever software I'm using at the moment and the printer wakes up quite fast and spits out a doc. Printing quality is very good, IMHO. This printer is somewhat noisy, but I don't mind that. What I adore is Scanning!!! Yes, it's kind of tricky. It took me some time to learn this procedure. But I love the possibility of scanning many pages without interruption and being able to get them in one pdf file. Copying - I tried it only once since I got this machine. And it was making a copy of my DL (both sides) on one page. It was easy and pretty straight forward. Copy's quality was outstanding. Price - self explanatory. It seems to be one of the best deals around for this kind of functionality and quality. Summary - I don't regret buying this printer. Instead, so far I love it. It was one of the best purchases I've done. But who knows, I might come back here in the future and give Canon some hard time ))))) But let's keep our fingers crossed )))) ... show more

  • So far I really like it. Read my review now!
Well at first when I opened up the box I thought yes it is fresh. Fresh from the factory. Everything was right in order with how a good manufacture has their products looking. Not a fingerprint on it. Various parts with hinges taped so they would not open. I was slow to open up different parts though. I didn't want to do anything wrong and break something. I wanted to know how it was opened up. So after I got into it I had to take some plastic pieces out I guess they have for shipment. Got those out and pulled out the toner cartridge also. Pulled the big strip out to get it ready for use. Shook it around some first I think to distribute the toner. Then for a few seconds I held the toner cartridge backward when going to put it back. But realized how it went. Slid right in again. Started up no problem. I pressed a few buttons to see what I could figure out just from the LCD screen. I was glad that I familiarized myself with it. But I had to wait because my paper was on it's way. I thought why didn't Canon give me 20 sheets of paper just to give me something to play with? But they didn't. Or why didn't Amazon ship me that ream of paper I ordered with this? Oh well..so I had to wait a couple more days to put the paper in it. Two days finally went by waiting for the event of making this thing work. I put the paper in. I put a magazine on the glass to copy it. Pressed copy and Viola!! I had a nice copy like I was down at the library. I also went to my pc and printed an Andy Williams picture out(A great singer by the way) and it printed out very well. I failed to mention I did install the software and or drivers when I first got two days before by the way. That went well...anyway so yes I printed out a few pages from the internet and it all looked good. I went back to the printer and checked out the scan function. It seemed to have some error setting up the scan from the machine itself. I forget what it said. I called Canon and we couldn't figure it out. But instead I chose Remote Scan I think it is on the printer and then you go to your pc and I think the software comes up. If not you just click the Canon MF Toolbox icon. But I do think it was there ready for me. I easily scanned a magazine cover no problem. I don't think the scan is really high resolution but high enough to where if you wanted to put the image on the internet you might have to size it down to 15% or so. Not sure. But the image is huge by just looking at it within your imaging software. I scanned in an old Bing Crosby sheet music I had. Going My Way...Bing looking great. Well now it is my desktop wallpaper. So I might have to scan a few more antique sheet music in soon to get me some more wallpaper from it. So about that error with the scan on the machine itself. I am not worried about it. I am sure it is just superficial. Maybe it works now since I have rebot a few times since. But I don't care about it because I want to use the remote scan button and just do it at my pc with the software. So nothing is wrong to me. I don't want to scan from it anyway. So I am very pleased with this thing. I have always wanted a laser printer because I don't like the cost of ink and the fact that if you want to be conservative and only occasionally use it the heads dry up on it and all that color ink trapped and worthless. I actually had two Lexmark printers. I bought one and used the ink that I got with it. But I never bought a replacement because it was always too expensive. And had other things to buy. Then I bought another one a few years later for some stupid reason thinking it would be better and never got around to buying ink for that thing either. And I finally just through them both out in the garbage. I should have sold the things on ebay for 20 bucks. Even 10 dollars. How dumb of me. Anyway I am sure I would have spent my profits by now so it's over right? I thought I would buy a Kodak inkjet since I heard their ink is cheaper. But never got around to it. But that was another bad idea. Ink Jets are not what you want. So luckily I recently did a price check on Laser printers. I always thought they were like 500 dollars. I guess they came down in price the last few years. I didn't know they had Laser printers for about a hundred dollars. So I looked around. Saw a Brother Laser printer. I heard they get good ratings with consumers. They are a good brand. That was about a hundred dollar basic Laser printer. But then I discovered the Canon Multi-function printers/Copier/Fax WOW. I thought these things would be 300 dollars. I guess it might have went for 300 dollars before but they probably have paid for the technology a long time ago and now it is all profit for them. And Canon wants us to buy their EXPENSIVE toner cartridges. So that is the only dirty deal there with Canon. We will sell them this wonder Multi-function machine then get them on an 80 dollar toner cartridge every 3 months or so. And I may not have bought this if they were the only ones selling them...but there are a few other companies selling replacement toner cartridges for cheap. 23 dollars each. Also selling them in a bundle of 3 for 30 something dollars. That is fair. So I can print/ copy/ do whatever all the time. WOW just print things out at my leisure. Anytime I want BOOM PRINT COPY SCAN what a life. And monochrome is all you need. Black and white copies. Who cares about a color printer. You can scan color however. What are you rich? Who is rich enough to make calendars up and print big color pictures all day long 24/7? Not me. If you are great. Go buy one. I like to have a printer for my business letters really. Print information out to read. Not to print our pretty pictures with it and waste my money. I will look at the pretty pictures online. Or from a folder where I saved them right on the screen for free. Look at all the digital pictures you took from your camera on the pc. No need to print them out. But when you are very wealthy you can get your kicks on that if you would like. But for me I am frugal and this machine is a winner. Go for it. I promise you that you will like this one. I have never had a nice Laser Multi-function Printer/Copier/Scanner and figured it all out no problem. The toner cartridge comes out simply for replacement. Nothing tricky. I didn't break anything though yes at first I was concerned that I would do something wrong. Break something. Bend something. But no, I did it. And now I am the proud owner of a Canon Laser ImageClass MF4770n Monochrome Printer with Scanner, Copier, and Fax. I say yes buy it. I have no regrets and I am sure you won't either. Ok I spend enough time on this review lol...Goodnight, and good luck! ... show more
