And I need to fix it, stat.Charity work? Check. Haircut? Sure. But I draw the line at hiring my neighbor to style me. In the first place “style” shouldn’t be a verb. And I’m tired of people who’d judge me on appearances.Vera and I don’t see eye to eye on anything. She wants me to try on clothes, while I just want to remove hers. She's distractingly pretty, with soulful eyes and a sinful mouth that likes to argue with me.But when management threatens my summer vacation, I grudgingly agree to Vera’s unusual proposal: she’ll give me an image makeover. But in return, she wants lessons in the art of seduction. It sounds a little nutty, but I know a good opening when I hear it. Besides, it’s not like I’ll ever fall for her… Read more

  • Love lessons + Italian vacations vibes
I will NEVER get enough of the Brooklyn Bruisers! Love Lessons was a fun addition to the series - less about hockey but full of cameos and was a quick, easy read. Ian Crikey has an image issue - he’s been dealing with some guilt after a fight went wrong last season, hasn’t been playing his best and recently got arrested with a less than stellar mugshot making its rounds. He has a reputation as being a bit of a bad boy - rugged looks, unkempt hair, lived-in clothes - but all of that needs to change to keep Bruisers management happy. But under that bad boy persona is a really sweet, understanding and dedicated guy trying to make a life for himself outside of hockey by owning and renovating a building in Brooklyn, right next door to an uptight neighbor. Vera Vestini is a personal stylist and a fashion nut who believes that the perfect outfit can go a long way in making you confident and put together. Even though she looks confident and collected on the outside, she’s constantly second guessing herself and questioning her self-worth thanks to her first (and only) love/ex-boyfriend. She’s a bit naive and inexperienced, making her even more intimidated by her neighbor’s good looks but finds herself wanting to give him a makeover and help with his image issues. Crikey and Vera make the trip to Italy together with their friends during the hockey off-season and are constantly thrown together since they’re the only two single people on the trip. Their relationship goes to the next level when Vera approaches Crikey to give her some love lessons to seduce her ex-boyfriend and make him realize what he’s been missing. They’re opposites in so many ways, but they had a fun connection built on their bickering and embracing their differences. Even though they were connected physically, they kept a lot of emotional and personal things close to the vest and didn’t talk about anything, which is always frustrating to me. They finally figured it out in the end, but the wrap-up felt abrupt to me - I wanted some more personal and emotional connection and growth between them once they finally started naming their feelings. This book made me crave an Italian vacation of my own…where’s my billionaire best friend Neil Drake when I need him?! I loved all of the cameos from past Brooklyn Bruisers stories and the continuations of their stories, especially O’Doul - I maybe teared up a few times when he was on page. As always, this just made me want more from the Bruisers and Bombshells - can’t wait to see which story comes next! ... show more

  • Perhaps My Favorite In This Excellent Series
This series makes you laugh and touches your heart. The latest does both in spades! And I love the cameos from characters we got to know in the earlier books. AND: hockey! And hockey hunks! What's not to love?

  • fun, witty, delicious, and light-hearted
Ian needs an image makeover. Vera needs some...love lessons. An equal exchange that should involve fun for all, right? No feelings, though... Vera's never really done the fling thing, but given how horrible her last relationship was, she knows she needs some lessons on how to be with a guy. Who better than a gorgeous hockey star. One who looks like a fashion model and knows his way around. And what better locale than Italy, where Ian and some mates are heading on vacation? She just has to keep her heart intact, has to make sure she doesn't fall for the commitment-phobe that Ian is. Ian is the last person to want a makeover, but if he doesn't want to possibly be traded, then he needs to change his ways and his appearance, which as of late, has been a bit rough looking. So when he and his neighbor Vera are the two singles on a vacation in Italy, he knows he has to take her up on her proposal of a swap - lessons for a makeover. It's not exactly a hardship to teach her how to let go, but knows at the end of the vacation they'll be going their separate ways. Will he be able to keep to the rules of no feelings allowed? This was just what I needed to read right now - fun, witty, delicious, and light-hearted with a great couple and an equally great surrounding cast. Ian is swoony, funny & straightforward and Vera is so relatable with her insecurities but with a big heart and a feisty mouth. I love the Brooklyn hockey world the author has created. Now I can't wait for the next hockey player to get taken down by love and brought to his knees. ... show more

  • Loved it!
Gotta love the world of Brooklyn Bruisers. We have reached Ian and Vera's story! Ian we've seen a bit throughout the series and Vera we met last book and they couldn't be more different from one another. Yet in a lot of ways they are similar as well. Both try to act more confident and in some areas they are but they both hide a lot of insecurities. For Ian, right now he is going through a tough time. He has been having nightmares for months after a fight on the ice led to his opponent in a career ending injury. He feels guilty about it and doesn't know how to cope despite the fact that things happen on the ice. He is also worried after being arrested for a party at his home being too loud and now PR is on his back to clean up his act and be presentable. The last thing Ian cares about is what he wears. Then there is Vera. A stylist building her business but is filled with some insecurities. Her boyfriend dumped her a few years back and she has never really gotten over it. Believing that she wasn't perfect or someone worth dating. When these two find themselves on the same trip to Italy with their friends, it gives them an opportunity to get to know one another and realize that they have a lot of chemistry. Loved their story. Ian is hilarious and Vera is so sweet and relatable. It takes them both a bit of time to realize that they are chasing or worrying about the wrong things and that they could be really great together. Loved this new story in the Brooklyn Bruisers series. It almost felt like an ending and in ways it was but I'm hoping this isn't the last of it! ... show more
