  • Great small office black and white printer
Model name: Old Model: MFCL5900DW
This is a great small/department printer. It prints fast and clean and is easy to connection to the network. It does a great job scanning as well.

  • Fantastic Product.
Model name: Old Model: MFCL5900DW
This is a 3rd one that I have had of this brand over many years. They are excellent printers. I have the extra paper tray for print labels. You can select which print tray you use for each print job. So it is perfect for shipping labels. The wireless printing and scanning is excellent. Setting up scan preset buttons makes it easy to have different type of scans for different folders. Then all you have to do it press the appropriate Scan Button. Only draw back is, after about 4-5 years the they print quality gets bad and I just have to replace the printer. ... show more

  • Very happy with ease of use, good replacement for my 15 year old 8860DN
Model name: Old Model: MFCL5900DW
I had a very old 8860DN that had seen its better days and was beginning to have reliability issues especially with the old Win7 software that was end of life. I've found this unit to be reliable and easy to use. I'm happy with my purchase.

  • Had to return it
Model name: Old Model: MFCL5900DW
I had purchased this printer along with a 4-pack of toner and a 2-pack of drums from other sellers on Amazon so I'd have them all in stock and ready when needed. I unboxed this printer and installed it on our networked print server. Added it to my list of printers on my laptop. Testing printing... Great! Tested copying... Great! Tested scanning to email... Great! Wait, it went offline in the next 5 minutes. Tried scanning again, nothing. Tried printing, nothing. I could ping it and I could access the IP address via the web browser. But it showed as offline and I couldn't print or scan. Rebooted, scanned and it worked. A few minutes later it was offline again. Made sure all "timeout" options in the settings were maxed out. No dice. Factory reset, reinstalled under different IP, tried different drivers... No dice. Sent a message to the seller asking for help in troubleshooting, no answer. Contacted Brother Support directly. They suggested a few settings to check including firmware update, tried everything they asked, no dice. They brought up our network firewall and to check some settings in there, still no dice. They suggested our network is the issue and asked if I can try installing it on a different network / environment. No, I don't have a different network to test on. We have 20-25 printers on our network including Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Brother, HP and Canon and have not had this issue with any other printer. So I had to return the printer (and all the extra toner & drums I ordered for it). I messaged Brother back and let them know I'd returned it because we'd already wasted 2 weeks troubleshooting to no avail. They didn't even acknowledge my final message to apologize or comment on it, they just closed the ticket on their end. I will not be buying any more Brother printers. The machine was a piece of junk and the support was just as bad... especially considering I never heard back from my initial message to the actual seller. On a brighter note, I ended up purchasing a Canon ImageClass D1620 as an alternative and it's been working flawlessly ever since. The Canon printer turned out to be the machine that the Brother failed to live up to. I'd recommend you buy the Canon instead. ... show more

  • Brother still makes it a chore to collate copies of multiple page documents!
Model name: Old Model: MFCL5900DW
Okay, this is a Brother printer so that automatically means it is a great printer in my opinion. Nothing really changes about the quality of Brother printers. This is my third and they have all worked well with heavy use. I deducted one star from this purchase due to one of my pet peeves with the printer. The printer has the option of allowing you to make copies of multiple documents and collate the pages so they come out of the printer already sorted. This is a must for my work where I copy a lot of multiple page documents. My gripe, and it was the same on the last Brother printer I had, is that in order to "sort" the copy you have to press the display five times to get it into "sort" mode. I fail to understand why the "sort" mode is not the default mode for making copies. After, all if you put in a multi-page document and just want one copy of the document it wouldn't matter if it is in "sort" or "stack" mode. Likewise if you have a one page document and want 20 copies it wouldn't make any difference if it is in "sort" or "stack" mode. The only time it matters is if you put in a mulit page document and want, say 10 copies of page one and then 10 copies of page 2 , etc. all stacked on top of one another. The likelihood of that being your desired outcome is extremely low in my opinion, at least in an office setting. It is almost a given that if you are making multiple copies of a multi-page document you are going to want them collated. Apparently Brother doesn't agree with my assessment. You would think, then, that Brother would at least provide an option to change the default setting from stack to sort, but you would be wrong. No changing the default. Whatever software genius wrote the software for this printer obviously never worked in an office and interfaced with a printer/copier. My message to Brother about being able to change the default went unanswered, obviously because it cannot be done, at least not with the provided software. Love everything else about the printer/copier/fax. Later: Well, maybe not as big of a pain as I had thought. Brother does let you create a shortcut on the screen so you can press a shortcut and it puts the printer in "sort" mode for printing. Better than pushing the screen five times, but it should still be the default setting, in my opinion. This is an improvement over my last Brother printer which required numerous button pushes to turn it to sort mode with no shortcuts available, so an improvement. ... show more
