These printers were impossible to find during the Covid pandemic. Now that I have it, I wish I could have switched from the HP LaserJet Pro 400 long ago. Print speed and quality are excellent - I often print 120 pages each time and results are excellent. WiFi capability is a blessing; the connection is very reliable. I use this printer with the add-on paper tray so that the printer automatically prints on legal-size and letter-size paper. Note that the automatic paper size switching only works in Windows, not macOS — this is true for all of my prior HP printers and this Brother printer; so, I do not blame the printer for this. I also use maximum yield toner, and I bought a cover to prevent dust from ruining this printer — dust damaged one of my previous printers. I definitely recommend taking your time to browse through all of the on-printer settings. I personally had to create my own printer profile (in Windows) to use single-sided printing by default, and I wanted the printer to wait for me to refill a particular paper size rather than automatically print on whatever paper was available. This printer and its accessories aren’t cheap, but it is a great investment if you have to print more than a typical home user would. ... show more

Purchased this printer to replace a 5 year old, heavily used HL-L6200DW that was crinkling pages, could not figure out problem (Brother online support not helpful) and could not wait for backlogged repair shops to fix. I'm a chromie--I have operated with a chrome OS computer for years. I'm also a notary public and loan signing agent. I bought this printer and an extra paper tray (from another source) so I can print mixed paper sizes together on the fly--both letter and legal. I saw warnings from Brother that their printers are not compatible with Chrome OS, which is not quite true. I can print to this printer's letter OR legal tray from my Chrome OS machines, but I still can't print a single PDF with different paper sizes and have the printer auto-select the paper size. I finally had to break down and buy an el-cheapo Windows laptop and install Adobe's Acrobat Reader DC (free version) to do it.     • Solid Printer for Home or Office - Quiet and Fast

Very pleased with the print quality and speed of the HL-L6300dw. I print a lot of PDFs that have a mix of diagrams, images, and text for school work and business. Every page I've printed so far looks great. The text is crisp and dark and the shading seem better than my other printers (an HP LaserJet MFP m425 and a color laser from Lexmark X548). The brother driver is very good. It allows for configuration of the print resolution, toner saving features, and a "quiet mode" that I found to be very effective. The default setting can produce 48 ppm, but the printer was louder than I like so I enabled "quiet mode" and am able to get a reliable 22 - 24 ppm on a mix of text and graphics. I was able to confirm that the printer can indeed print at 1200 x 1200 which is effective for very fine detail and gray shading but it does require higher quality paper. I mostly use 600x600, with toner saver, and quiet mode enabled and could not be happier with the every day output. I should also note that some other reviews mentioned spots at the top of pages when cold and my very first 2 pages did have 3 faint spots near the top, but no pages since have exhibited this problem. ... show more

I bought this printer back in mid-2017 with the added tray for legal sized paper. It has been a workhorse. It connects to wifi easily and prints from both my Mac and Windows machines. The toner lasts quite a while. I’ve used both generic and the brother brands. The brother did better but for what I need the off-brand has been fine. Even though the printer has gone up $200 in price, I would buy it again if something happened to this one. Now their colored printers I will stay away from because of the toner issues but this black and white is great. ... show more

    • Annoying Generic Flaw - Envelope Handling/Capacity

Noisier but faster than previous HP monochrome laser jet. Very easy to set up. Three complaints. The manual instructions for the mechanical parts are not clear. For example, not easy to identify name parts for printing envelopes (paper stopper?) or their orientation (does the envelope feeder tray extender part really stay bent up at an odd angle?) The second complaint is generic. Limited capacity of envelope input trays. Why would an office need a printer that only prints 10 envelopes at a time? Third complaint: -Since there are separate input trays for envelopes, special paper, and regular paper - please set up printers so envelopes stay loaded and drivers let you chose between envelope trays and trays with other paper media instead of batching or loading and unloading input trays,. Despite all social media, email an other online communication options, sometimes folks just need to print envelopes. Get over it, brother, HP, epson. ... show more

It replaced my old HP 4050 LJ which last until toner carts became hard to find. It draws a little more current than the LJ (Room light dims) so place it on a circuit of its own if possible. It was the only printer that allows for direct feed with a front door for printing checks and forms.
