  • Big Brother shuts down your printer when they want
This would be a good printer except for one thing which I consider a dealbreaker. When the printer thinks the toner life is over, it stops printing and you cannot print until you install a new toner. It is not up to you to determine, but up to Big Brother. Of course, this feature is not to provide you with good customer service, but rather to force you to buy their overpriced toners on a more frequent basis. In the future I will make an effort to buy only printers that allow me to determine when I want to change toner. I appreciate a warning, but not shutting off my ability to print. My business depends on a working printer. Don’t get sucked in by cheap price. You will more than pay for it in toner cost and inconvenience of having your printer shut off with little or no warning. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY!
I previously owned the MFC L8900DW and it worked well (just like this) but for one major and annoying flaw that no one is talking about. The machine RANDOMLY GOES INTO SELF DIAGNOSTIC AND YOU HAVE TO WAIT 15mins BEFORE YOU CAN PRINT AGAIN. This is unacceptable in an office environment. I bought the L5700 model assuming that there was a defect in the 8900 model. To be safe, I decided not to buy another 8900 but instead the 5700...same issue! I now have two printers that are useless in an office environment. This Self Diagnostice occurs randomly at least 4 times a day. That's 1 hr of waiting on this printer. Shutting off the printer before the 15mins does nothing. You must wait that period. VERRY ANNOYING!!!! ... show more

  • Pain in the ass but works...kind of
We bought this printer for my work and man, it has been a bit of a pain in the ass. It's the slowest printer known to man. I can click print on a document and it will take 4 or 5 minutes for the printer to receive the document. Doesn't matter if it's one page or 50. It'll print decently fast so that's good. It's just getting it to print that's a pain. Plus, it doesn't let you select auto size on paper documents so if you have some that are legal sized and some letter sized you have to manually switch between the two on your computer. It scans well...unless you're using the flatbed instead of the document feeder. If you use the flatbed for something that's bigger than the feeder allows then it pops up with a weird selection boxes, which you can't delete the extras without deleting the entire document. Also, it does a prescan of the document on the flatbed then you have to select the are you want scanned because it's too stupid to just select the whole document on it's own and then it has to rescan it. So something that should take you all of 20 seconds ends up taking you much much longer. This printer is an idiot but it's worked so far. Although if you have a mac you'll have a much harder time with it than if you have a pc, which is extra dumb because more people use mac than pc these days. So stupid. ... show more

  • Not New/Unopened, but works fine
The printer was not new. Clearly someone had opened the printer and unpackaged it. There was no blue tape on the printer (new printers have blue tape holding all of the doors and flaps closed in shipping). The Styrofoam on the top was broken and the broken piece was not in the box. The packing tape on the outside of the box had been taped over at least once. Thus, this was not new in box, it had been returned by someone and no one had opened the box and repackaged it. It does appear to work correctly and Brother machines are awesome. I have a small office where we have 6 printers and a home office with 2 printers. I have used only Brother since about 1999 and every time I try other printers they do not work as well. These are awesome. ... show more

  • Customer service
Printer is great. However, had problem with the toner cartridge leaking when the machine arrived. Spent aproximately 1 hour with customer service (30 minutes hold and 30 minutes trouble shooting. Customer service refused to back the product.

  • Newer is not sometimes better!
I already have a Laser Printer HL-5470DW that is a work horse. The laser fuser went out on it after 2.5 years of major printing. I decided to invest in the MFC-L5700DW laser printer..it is not quite the work horse that the other one is. Has all the other features scan, copy, fax, etc. It paper jams frequently where the 5470 rarely jammed. The dual trays are not compatible with each other so they have to be bought separately. Toner is expensive on both, the the newest one is even more so expensive, wish I would have just replaced on the old one the laser fuser which runs around 150. Or just found that model for sale somewhere. ... show more

  • Excellent Printer - Would Highly Recommend
I like everything about the printer. The only bad thing is that I don't have a better place to set the printer so I have to set it near the computer which I don't like to do but I have no choice. That has nothing to do with the printer, the printer is wonderful. I have the printer set up on a home network and we have 4 computers in the house which we use daily. Any of the computers can use the printer and we like that a lot. It was simple to connect the printer to the network and everything works perfectly. Setup was simple, a child could do it. The menu is pretty simple to use, it is very intuitive and there is a decent manual in case you run into a problem. This machine scans in color which I really like, and if I need to copy a colored page I can can the page and then print the scanned image with my color laser printer. I rarely ever need to print color though, probably 99 percent of the printing I do is just text. I rarely need to send a FAX but now I have that capability. I have not tried to do that yet, but i did play with it a little and it seems to be fairly straight forward. I like the fast speed that it can print, not that I am a business with a lot of fast printing needs, but when I need several pages printed I like to get the job done and this printer prints out pages VERY fast. I would highly recommend this printer to home users or for a small business. It would work OK for a larger business too, assuming you don't need color. ... show more
