I have had three types of printers over the years; dot-matrix, ink jet, and toner & laser. Of the three toner & laser is by far the least expensive per copy. In addition, it is the quickest type of printer I've used. It prints a full page color copy faster than most ink jet printers are able to warm up, and the printed copy is ready to use right away whereas ink jet copies require a small amount of time to set. Added to the conveniences I listed already the fact that this printer has a duplexer built in (my first personal printer to do so) and the two-sided copies it produces are exactly what I need for many of my projects. Easy to setup. Works exactly as advertised. It's my first duplex printer and so far performs well. My fault for not realizing it, but it does not have an automatic document feeder. That's a small annoyance. So far, I'm extremely pleased.

The media could not be loaded. I'm a crafter and often need printed supplies for my crafts. I have several printers but they are all inkjet, my previous laser printer was a monster that cause my lights to flicker so I avoided using it often for fear I would cause a fire. Years later, I had someone working on the outlet where I had that printer plugged in and the wires were starting to burn, the electrician told me it was likely the printer. Because of this, I was really scared to get another laser printer. I know electronics have come a long way and are more energy efficient so I decided to take the plunge. The first thing I noticed when I turned this printer on was NO FLICKERING OF LIGHTS! Not only am I a crafter but I also like to set up a tent at local craft fairs to sell my homemade items so having good quality printed material is essential. Given that the toner for this is extraordinarily pricey, I will limit my use for items that will return a profit and keep using my large format inkjet printers for daily needs. I have this printer connected via wifi so the only cable attached to it is the power cord. Setup and installation was super easy but I'm also a bit on the techie side so it may not be so simple for some. Warmup from complete shut down takes a bit but speeds up once it's warmed up. The copies I made using the flatbed scanner were off. The colors were lacking in red tones but they were the opposite when I printed. The printed images had a darker red tone but I also know that all monitors are different and may show you something completely different than what your printer will spit out. I've worked with digital graphics long enough to know how to correct the colors using my graphics application so it's not an issue for me. The manual bypass only allows one sheet at a time. I use it to print on cardstock, I haven't used it to print on envelopes as I can't remember the last time I mailed an actual letter. The print quality for graphics images (not photographs) is very good. I only print informational material and high color graphics so I don't know how well it will print photographs, I presume not as good as an inkjet would. I have not met a laser printer that can print photo quality prints. All in all, it's a very nice and reliable printer that will certainly do well in any home. It has a decent footprint so you don't require TOO much extra space. It's not too heavy, and it does a good job. The reasons for not giving it 5 stars are: The limitations of the bypass. The copies produced using the scanner are way off. At least printing from your computer, you have the option to adjust the saturation and color balance. The phone app might have this option for making copies and if I find it and it works, I will update my review. I've got my first Brother printer some 10 years ago. It was an DCP model, with graphical color LCD touch screen, also color laser, looks very similar to this one! As I absolutely never had any issues with my old printer (gently used, but for about 7 years now), I opt to continue on Brother family. The improvements that I can see from my old Brother to this one are: - This one is faster to print and to manage (internal web administrator panel) - The controls are not touch screen, but rubber buttons with a small one-line text display, with backlight: the good is that is easy to operate as you see the button and just one touch to copy something from scanner, the bad is just for the first setup maybe, as to configure the wifi password is tricky to input text, but you can configure the wifi via USB connection (just for the first time), so, not a big issue the small display. This one does not come with the document feeder for the scanner. Mine old one comes with, what I can say about: it is rarely used, as it only scans one side at a time, if you have double sided documents to scan you will need to do some tricks later to put the scan in order. This model is extremely silent to print, compared to my old one! The scanner light motor is more noisy than the color laser print: awesome! All your devices will see this printer in the network (you can password protect to avoid unwanted printings from the same shared network), I've tested on Windows 11, MAC and iOS, all work seamless. One of the features I most use is the double sided print. And since my old Brother, I absolutely never had issues with stuck paper using this mode! The only "bad" thing to consider: it looks like this printer model uses a new model of toner cartridge, that is slightly small and pricey, but the pricey thing could be because it is a new model, so its expected to be a bit pricey. About the autonomy being a bit small than the DCP printer models, forget it, is just a minimal technical detail - laser printers are the most economical print you will have, this difference is irrelevant. But if you print a lot, you still have the opportunity to sign for a toner replacement program that looks very inexpensive to me. I just don't bought because my volume of printing is small (but I love the quality of laser printing!) Correction: today is LED Printer, not Laser, is different but "is the same". Also consider that this printer is USB/Wifi only, no LAN port available. Final things: BUY A BROTHER! I love it from the past and to the present, and recommend it to everyone. This never will be a wrong choice. If you want to go further, get the one with touch-screen and document feeder (like my old one, but new updated model). But keep in mind that the display require more steps to use some functions, as you don't have the hard button shortcuts of this model, and also all the relevant information will be always available in the computer driver or the printer webpage, when needed, if you don't have a nice color lcd display, like this one don't have. ... show more
