  • Very good printer
Style: New Model: HLL2390DW
Best printer I have ever owned (I have had several). Fast, toner lasts a long time. Easy to setup with Windows and Linux. Scanner works great. Prints very good. Has ethernet, USB, and wi-fi. Cons: comes with small toner cartridge (I bought an aftermarket that was larger). It's only prints B&W (greyscale), but I knew that when I bought it, so I can't complain. ... show more

  • Pretty good printer
Style: New Model: HLL2390DW
So, for awhile now, I've been considering getting a laser printer since inkjet printers have not been kind to me, at least ink wise. I don't print stuff off very often, like once a month at most, so with an inkjet the ink would dry up or whatever by the time I used it again so even after like getting it to work or whatever, I would have to buy a new cartridge. Which, considering how expensive ink is these days, I could easily buy a cheap inkjet printer for $30 which is less than the cost of the ink for some brands and just buy a new printer every time the ink ran out. So, to avoid that, I decided to go with a laser printer. I rarely ever need to print in color. If I do need to print in color, I'll spend the few cents and go to Office Depot or a friend's house, but most of my printing needs are satisfied with black and white prints. (I play D&D so I mostly just need to print off character sheets and basic maps so black and white is all I need) and I knew I wanted to get a Brother it was just a matter of which one. I looked at a few different models and finally decided on this one since it had all the stuff I needed to do. Automatic 2 sided printing, scanning, copying, print from wifi or mobile device. I don't need fax but I definitely needed to at least scan stuff so this is definitely a good middle ground. It's a bit big so you'll have to make sure you have room for it. It's about a foot tall and about as deep as my dresser (which is where I keep it at the moment. I'll probably move it to the closet sooner or later) It prints FAST! I printed out almost 200 pages (double sided) in like half an hour give or take. It's definitely fast, and the quality is amazing! The text is crisp and pristine. Pictures aren't the same quality like on an inkjet printer. They look fine, but that's not what this is meant for. This is meant for office work like documents with maybe a few graphs here and there. It's quiet-ish. It's definitely quieter than some other printer's I've used, but it's not like whisper quiet. Unless everyone in the house is a light sleeper, I don't see why it would wake anyone up. Set up was fairly simple. It took awhile for me since my internet speeds are VERY slow (which doesn't impact the printing) so it took forever to download the software onto my laptop in order to print stuff, but if you have decently fast internet speeds the download shouldn't take too long. After it got downloaded it was only a few clicks away from being set up. But honestly, my friend bought the same one a few years earlier (I didn't know this when I bought it just a fun coincidence) she's still using the toner that came with the printer and she hasn't had to buy more toner once. So yeah, I don't have to worry about buying toner for AWHILE! But seriously, this was the best $100 I've spent. Definitely worth it. ... show more

  • Good printer. Here's hoping.
Style: New Model: HLL2390DW
I gambled buying this as my second Brother printer. The first still printed very well but had a paper jam problem. The paper did not actually jam. Instead, it appeared that a sensor malfunctioned that indicated the paper had not cleared the machine as fast as it should. So, I could only print one or 2 sheets before it would jam and then it had to be rested for a while before doing 1 or 2 more. The cost of repair was as much, or more, than a new printer. So, I bought this one, also without an automatic paper feeder, because this is a home machine with fairly light duty. After its arrival, un-boxing it was as expected and its setup was fairly easy. I did have to go through the wireless connection routine a couple of times before it connected but I've had much worse experiences with other devices. So, this was very acceptable. And like my previous Brother printer this one prints very nicely and quickly. I often use the scan feature which performs well and is a convenience. This model does not have a fax feature, but these days most people/organizations who ask for one will accept an email. For those who don't, I use a free online service. But that's a rarity. The real test of this Brother printer will be its longevity. At less than $100, considering its ease of use and very good quality of printing, thus 5 stars for now, it doesn't have to out live me! {Update} It's now a year later with a new third party toner cartridge and this printer is still very good at everything it does. ... show more

  • Nice Printer--Lame Setup Documentation
Style: New Model: HLL2390DW
My household, which doesn't have a large print volume, has had two Brother printers for a long time, more than 12 years. We replaced computers shortly after we got them, and upgraded again about 6 months ago. I was still able to download and install software supporting these printers with the newest computers, and for this I compliment Brother. Since we liked the printers, when I craved a printer with a scanner, I bought a HL-L2390DW, a good printer/scanner for home office use which prints cleanly and at a reasonable speed, and flips smoothly in duplex mode. The copier function gives nice quality, but the black on black alignment indicators are difficult to see and the scanner does not correct the page location, so one has to use them. However, getting there was a pain in the neck. For the drum and toner installation the Quick Setup Guide used a graphic of a different printer where I couldn't tell which face corresponded to which on mine. When I looked for the referenced video, I couldn't find my printer. Then, when I got that straightened out, and inserted the drum and toner, which was easy once I opened the correct door, I connected it to the network. The Quick Setup Guide didn't seem to acknowledge WPS install on a Wi-Fi LAN (WLAN in their terminology), so I sought out the full documentation on the website, which basically told me to follow the menus on the printer. I will say that once I got to this point, my already installed Brother drivers on my computers worked just fine, and I was immediately able to print from my iPhone. All in all, I would have been better off not reading the directions, which is not usually the case for me. But, I do like the printer. ... show more

  • It just works, and is so much cheaper than an inkjet.
Style: New Model: HLL2390DW
First, actually read the description, this is a MONOCHROME laser printer, don't write a review complaining it doesn't printer color. Second, it ships with a "starter" cartridge rated at 400 pages, don't complain it didn't last 3000+ pages. Now, even the starter cartridge will last, simply shake it when it says toner low, and go through the menus and turn off the "feature" that stops printing when you get a low toner message. Just replace it when it stops printing. Now, I've purchased two of these, one for myself, and one for my daughter. No problems hooking them up to WiFi, and having all the computers and cell phones print to it. My daughter home schools her two children, and goes through a LOT more paper and toner than I do, which leads me to recommend replacement cartridges. For less than HALF the price of a SINGLE Brother branded high capacity cartridge (TN760) you can get TWO high capacity toner cartridges! (Currently $77 for a single Brother, and under $30 for TWO HaloFox high capacity). Search on Amazon, I've had good luck with both the HaloFox TN760 and the Linkyo TN760, they last every bit as long as the Brother brand, print just as well, and cost less than 25% of the Brother brand. Seriously, they cost less than inkjet cartridges, what are you waiting on? I can't comment on the tech support, I haven't needed it. Yes, it has a sleep mode, and it can take a minute to wake up, but it isn't like I print often enough to even try to disable it (but there is a setting to make it longer before it goes to sleep). It hasn't given me or my daughter any problems in the past 9 months we've used them, and was NOT difficult to set up. ... show more

  • Perfect Office Needs
Style: New Model: HLL2390DW
Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) I recently purchased a Brother brand printer, and it has proven to be a reliable workhorse with a few minor quirks. Here's my detailed review: Setup & Connectivity: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) The initial setup and Wi-Fi connectivity proved to be a bit challenging. Unlike some other printers that come with detailed instructions, the Brother printer's setup process felt less intuitive. Connecting it to Wi-Fi took a few attempts and required a bit of patience. It would be immensely helpful if the setup process were more user-friendly. Cable Not Included: ★★★★☆ (4/5) One notable drawback was the absence of a USB cable in the box. While many printers come with a USB cable for wired setup, this one didn't include one. This could be an inconvenience for users who prefer a wired connection or don't have a spare cable on hand. However, this is a minor issue as most setups nowadays are wireless. Performance & Print Quality: ★★★★★ (5/5) Once I had the printer up and running, it performed admirably. Printing quality was excellent, with sharp text and vibrant colors for photos. It handled various paper sizes and types with ease, making it suitable for both everyday document printing and occasional photo printing. Speed & Efficiency: ★★★★★ (5/5) The Brother printer proved to be impressively fast, particularly for its price range. It spat out pages with impressive speed and efficiency, which is a huge plus for busy households or small offices where time is of the essence. Reliability & Durability: ★★★★★ (5/5) Reliability is where this Brother printer truly shines. It consistently delivered crisp prints without paper jams or other hiccups. The build quality feels solid, suggesting that it should hold up well over time, making it a long-term investment. Additional Features: ★★★★☆ (4/5) The printer comes with a range of useful features, such as automatic duplex printing, which helps save on paper costs. It also has mobile printing capabilities, allowing you to print from your smartphone or tablet. However, some users might miss the absence of a touch screen or a more intuitive control panel. Value for Money: ★★★★☆ (4/5) Despite the initial setup challenges and the missing USB cable, the Brother brand printer offers excellent value for its price. Its performance, reliability, and print quality make it a strong contender in the market. In conclusion, the Brother brand printer is a dependable workhorse that excels in performance, reliability, and print quality. While the setup process could be more user-friendly, and the absence of a USB cable was a minor inconvenience, these issues can be overcome with a bit of patience and an extra cable purchase. Once set up, this printer delivers exceptional results, making it a worthwhile investment for home or small office printing needs. It would have been my fault to setup the wifi connect so I'm giving 5 stars overall. ... show more

  • Easy Peasy Set up with Apple Products
Style: New Model: HLL2390DW
I'm glad I disregarded some of the negative reviews regarding difficulty with set up. I purchased this printer to replace an Epson inkjet printer after it refused to print a black & white page because the color ink was out. Sick of being held hostage by a printer manufacturer. In any event, I saved the USB cable from the old printer in hopes of using it with the new Brother Laserjet. Voila, it fit! After unpacking the new printer and removing all of the safety tape, I plugged the printer in to my Mac mini, went to the Brother web site for my printer model, and downloaded and installed the firmware. Next I downloaded and installed the Wireless set up wizard. I was immediately able to print using the cable connected to myMac mini. I could remove the cable, but I don't like using wireless if I don't need to. Next, I tried air printing from my iPhone. Even though my iPhone is connected to a 5G band for my dual band router, and the printer is connected to the 2.4Ghz band, the printer worked without a hitch. Finally, I tried air printing from an iPad. Again, no problems. Although I haven't done any large print jobs and won't be printing photos, I am happy with the quality and my choice. The best moment was tossing my inkjet printer in the garbage. ... show more
